I have a group of data files, some *.txt and one access data base (*.dbf) that I need to have placed in a folder (that is created) located at c:monitor.
how to do it in either the one-click or in a setup project.
I would also like to have a condition that if the files exist that they are not overwritten with an updated installation.

View 7 RepliesI just made my first .net website. I'm trying to use the following line of code to load a file from the current directory ( same diredtory all the web files are in). I get a error saying file does not exist
InstallFormTemp = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("installerform.html")
I copied the file to my c drive and chnage the line to
InstallFormTemp = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("c:installerform.html")
it worked, but now my site has to run a godaddy's webserver, so I cannot save stuff in the c drive, just my web directory.
How can I get My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText to read files from the websites current directory?
Im making a "offline viewer" which uses saved webpages. What do i put to make the program look in the root directory, and so make the program more portable. E.G. if the program is stored in C:Viewer it will look for the webpage under C:ViewerWebpagesI know that in some location formats you can have ...Webpages however i cant seem to find anything like this that works in vb

I am currently using the Directory.GetFiles("Path of folder", "Specific Data") to search a folder for specific files and then do something with those files - this works perfectly. However i would like to search all sub folders within the top level folder also.I have seen ways to return what directories exist within the top level - which i could then use to search but was wondering if there is an easier way.

I'd rather they didn't have to enter this whole address. Is there a simple way to redirect my users to this page if they just enter the root i.e. http:\<myServer><myApp> ?

How does one gain programatic access to the information that is entered into the "My Project" properties Application section?I am able to pick up the assembly name from those properties, but I haven't been able to pick these up.Below is the line of code that makes me interested in picking this up programatically. I've been testing the code below (vb 2010) and everything works except for the fact that I cannot get the statement "Dim dirName As String = Path.GetDirectoryName(Application.ExecutablePath)" to work. The dialog is "Path is not declared.it may be inaccessible due to protection level".As you may note I have it commented out below and went with the more explicit statement. Note that the code is from another author and I'd like to understand how to make this work as originally provided.

I would like to log events to a .txt file. I think I have this covered for the most part. If I run my application in let's say /Program Files/App/ it will log events to log.txt within the /App directory. However, if I made a desktop shortcut of my app, it writes log.txt to the desktop. How do I set it so my path for my log.txt will always be within the same folder as the .exe and not where the application is run from (like with shortcuts)? how to I get the .exe directory to add it to the path of log.txt?
