Asp.net - Get The Current Startup Project's Physical Location In C#?
Sep 3, 2009
I want the location of the current execution project i.e in VB.NET/C# or the current class file's path? Ok,let me elaborate i got 2 projects in one solution file, lets say A,B are projects, my startup project is B ,and im accessing a class file in A ,now i need to know virtual path of B. because i need it for accessing the resource file coz error pops up when using ExpressionBuilderContext
I am using Environment.CurrentDirectory to get the current directory, i.e. "D:ChuttuProjectsLICinDebug"
But, I want to remove "inDebug"
How can I do that? Or is there any way so that I can get the directory up to "LIC"?
Actually this is my connection string:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|LIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
But when I use this and try to insert data into the DB, the data is not inserted. When I use the connection string with a physical path it starts working:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
I am trying to get the physical path of the mdf file and use it in the connection string.
EDIT:
This piece of code works fine: Private Sub save() Dim con As New SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:Chuttu VBProjectsLICLIC.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True")
I've written a small program to open at startup, but I want to give the user the ability to delete it from showing on startup by clicking a button. But it needs to be compatible on XP, Vista and Windows 7. Is there a line of code which will get the default startup folder path automatically so I can then delete it using my button?
I think there is something wrong with the themes i use, aeonhacks' by the my program is all okey now, except the startup even i set the location on centerscreen when i run it, it doesnt show up on the center screen? anyone encounter this before?
I have been searching for a solution to this but I can't find one. I have played with the anchor and dock properties but they are not doing what I want, so here goes... I would like to place and size all of my controls on my form and then when the form is re-sized during run time (different resolutions, full screen/windowed, etc), have everything just scale up or down accordingly. Anchoring the controls to all four sides of my form re-sizes the control properly but it doesn't move it's location in sync with the other control's size next to it, they begin to overlap each other. Am I going to have to code my own scaling code for each control in my program?
How do I set the current image location in vb.net if I use the drag and drop even.It seems like the imagelocation doesn't work because I tried outputting the image location using messagebox. But it didn't show up anything. How do I get the image location of the file that I have just drop into the picturebox so that I could transfer it on another directory?

When I go to create a new project in VB I only get Name in lower pane to enter a name. I do not get Location or the 1 under Location. How do I get those 2 to display
I have a WinForms app in a single project written in VB.Net 2003 (legacy code). There is a MainForm and a SecondaryForm that is run by the MainForm. When I run the app thru the MainForm, I can debug with no problem. However, if I just run the SecondaryForm, I get the debug error, "There is no source code available for the current location", when stepping over,_routeId = CInt(myVar)
At this point I am no longer able to debug thru my code window, but have to use the disassembled code.
when i run the application it gives an error "there is no source code available for the current location". Even i try to debug using f8 and msgbox in all forms,It doesn go thru it.I dont know what goes wrong with my application. All the while it goes perfectly alright.what does this error message meant and why all the way in sudden it happens to be like this?
I am using VS2010 VB.NET, working on a solution that has a number of projects. I have been developing on it for a while now, and in an attempt to debug a custom class inherited from ObservableCollection (which by the way would not load symbols when debugging even though it was apparent that the breakpointed line was being called), I changed the startup object for the startup project to a different WPF window which I had a couple of controls that I set aside for debugging.Immediately I was confronted with 'Sub Main' was not found in . I tried changing the startup object back to the normal startup window, but now the Startup Object dropdown only has "Sub Main" as it's only option. I changed the StartupURI back in the App.xaml, to no avail.
I have been trying to build the "Testing a class lesson, but the Set as StartUp Project line in the Project menu does not exist! I have redone the entire project 7 times, always the same response! # different computers, all with registered versions of VB. Why does this problem persist?
I would like to get the color of a pixel at my current mouse location, when the mouse is clicked. The location is anything on the screen, not just a jpg, gif, png, etc..
I have a project in VSTO/VB using a BackgroundWorker that works fine. It is a form that calls for a web page of information. The web page can take a while, so I have the form calling with the BackgroundWorker.I then have an Excel Addin project that has added the BackgroundWorker project. When I call up the form from the Excel Addin project and use the BackgroundWorker to request the web page, it grabs the web page ok. But the work done upon completion, during the BackgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted method, is resulting in an error message:
I am learning Visual Basic Express 2008. When I follow step #5 below, the option Set as StartUp Project does not exist. How I can accomplish this. To create a test project for your class. Open the Persons project that you created in the previous lesson. If you did not save it, you will first have to go back to the previous lesson, Adding Methods to a Class, and complete the procedures.
On the File menu, point to Add, and then click New Project. On the Templates pane in the New Project dialog box, click Windows Forms Application. In the Name box, type PersonsTest and then click OK. A new Windows Forms project is added to Solution Explorer, and a new form appears.
In Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Set as StartUp Project. In the Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Add Reference. The Add Reference dialog box appears.
Click the Projects tab, and then select Persons and click OK. Double-click the form to open the Code Editor, and then enter the following declaration just under the line Public Class Form1.

I am wanting to change my startup form for my application in Visual Studio for VB.Net. I double clicked "My Project" in the Solution Explorer and then clicked on the Application tab. For some reason I only see 12 forms out of the 6 forms I have in my project when the "Enable Application Framework" check box is True. When the check box is False I see all my forms, why?
Can I have Two basic Questions about Setup Project deploying -
1, After I put company's logo at startup installation, there was still text shown up "Welcome xxxx setup.." together with the logo, how to remove it and display company's logo only? Also, if using text display and the text is too long, how to return to next line?
2, If I setup more than once, I was told to remove the first one using Add/Remove program in Control Panel before setting up new program. How can I use a dialog like "Overwrite the existing program"?
I have a VB project using VS 2008 Pro that I have been working on my Win XP SP3 PC for a while now. I am now moving to a different PC with Win 7, 32 bits. I installed VS2008 and VS2010 (also Pro) on the new PC. The source is stored on a server on our network. When I tried to open the project with VS2008 on the new Win 7 I got the following message:The project location is not trusted:
\DevServerProjectsSysMon Running the application may result in security exceptions when it attempts to perform actions that require full trust.I then click Ok and another dialog comes up mentioning:This project includes a password-encrypted key used for signing. Enter the password for the key file to import the key file into the local cryto-store databse for use.The dialog lists a pfx file. Why is it requiring this?
Im making an application which is basically a lojack project. Im wanting to get some ideas for maybe other features or the best way to go about this for maximum tracking ability.Right now I have it working the way I think it should work and what it does is get your external IP, it then returns the City, State, Zip, Latitude and Longitude and sends all that info to you in an email. I have it check against a Database that houses computer registration, computer name, and then the status of the laptop which the customer calls in, if its stolen. Right now this is just a piece of software and Im currently working on something low level to do something before Windows loads up. Right now thats not something Im focused on hardcore, but Im working on it and itll get done.
I'm trying to use a TreeView in my current project and I'm not quite sure if it will work.I need my tree view to load the TreeView with the contents of the C: drive. Along with this, I need the nodes to be "checkable" so that I can tell my program to do certain things with items checked. Can this be done? If not with TreeView, is there somethings that is free that is an add-in that I can use?
I downloaded a sample Project from the web. I opened the sample Project in Visual Basic 2005 Express Beta 2. After making a lot of modifications to the sample Project, I wanted to save my new project with its own different name, and in the usual directory where I have been creating other projects. I pressed Save All and accepted the default choice. Unfortunately, after pressing OK, I realized that I had saved over the original downloaded sample project, and had saved my modified project in a temp directory designed to receive downloads from the web. It's not a problem that I overwrote the original sample project, because I have already retrieved a new fresh copy from the web. Nor is it a problem that I gave it the name of the original project, because I was able to figure out how to rename the modified project by right-clicking in the Solution Explorer.
My problem is that I didn't want to save my modified project in the download temp directory. I want to save the Project (and all its associated sub-directories and files) in a directory of my own choosing (the same directory in which all my other created projects are saved). But now that I have chosen to save the project in an undesirable location, I want to re-save it somewhere else. For the life of me I can't see how to do this. The Save All command doesn't give me the choice of selecting the name or location for my project, it just updates my currently undesired location. The other two save-oriented commands under the File menu selection (Save and Save As) seem to be oriented to just saving the singular item (form code, dialog box code, module, etc) on which I am currently working. I can't find anything such as a "Save Project As" kind of command. And I don't want to try to cut and paste the whole directory, because I'm too novice to know whether I am moving everything properly with regards to what VB2005 needs to find and where it needs to find it.
When I create a new project in visual studio the New Project screen only has a Name box at the bottom, Location is missing. Is there a setting somewhere I need to set so this shows up?
When I click on "New Project", under the "Name" textbox, I get no "browse" button to save the project somewhere else other than the default Document and Settings folder. But, my friend see that "browse" button under the "Name" textbox.
How can I save the project somewhere else other than the default Document and Settings folder ?
im still fairly new to this. i have written a program, built it and created my setup project and can install it no problems, however, in the "setup view" where you have the threefolders "Application folder" "Users Desktop" and "Users Programs menu" ... u know "the file system view/setup1" ... well here is the problem, i click on "Application folder" and change the "default location" ... so i can specify the program is installed in "C:ProgramFilesJohns AppCalculator" ...... BUT when i build the setup and install the program it does not appear in this location !! arghh i can see all the program files on my pc ... except mine ( i have tried all day and all night the only way i can get it to appear here is by INCLUDING the "project output" into THIS folder ..... even though i only want it to be on the "users desktop" ....
Using the clickonce deployment, how can I change the location where the project is going to be deployed? I want it to be deployed to program files!
Because at the moment and I suppose as default the files are going to C:UsersAdminmgrAppDataRoamingMicrosoft......, it is even hard to find them at all
And also how to create a shortcut after it installs ? those are the features I could not find how to do using the clickonce. I know there are setups as well but I have read somewhere that clickonce should be able those two things and I would prefer to use it.
Is it possible to access the My.Settings of an other DLL referenced in the current Project? I have a Database project in which Settings the ConnectionString is stored. I need access to this Setting in an other Project(for Log-File).
I am trying to open a project in Visual Studio. I have VB.NET and C# installed. When I open the solution, it says
"The project file D:MyProjectsComboSample.csproj can not be be opened." "The project type is not supported by current installation"
What do I need to install? C# is already there.
