I'm trying to use a TreeView in my current project and I'm not quite sure if it will work.I need my tree view to load the TreeView with the contents of the C: drive. Along with this, I need the nodes to be "checkable" so that I can tell my program to do certain things with items checked. Can this be done? If not with TreeView, is there somethings that is free that is an add-in that I can use?

im using a gridview to fetch and show the data. and i want to implement the treeview inside the grid. its like the name of a person is shown in the gridview and when i click the plus sign or anything next to it it expands with its details. im using sql for retriving the datas.
in making a combobox - treeview - checked in visual basic. I have seen a few examples in c++ but I am unable to convert that code. Nor do I know how to integrate ++ code into my project. So, where do I start? Custom control? Is there a custom control project at startup of visual studio?

View 5 Repliesfiguring out which multithreading approach to utilize in my current work project. Since I've never written a multithreaded app in my life, this is all confusing and very overwhelming.I've been assigned to take over work on a control application for a piece of test equipment in my companies R&D lab. The program has to be able to send and receive serial communications with three different devices semi-concurrently. The original program was written in VB 6 (no multithreading) and I did plan on just modding it to work with the newer products that need to be tested until it posed a safety hazard when the UI locked up due to excessive serial communications during a test. This resulted in part of the tester hardware blowing up, so I decided to try rewriting the app in VB.Net as I'm more comfortable with it to begin with and because I thought multithreading might help solve this problem.
My plan was to send commands to the other pieces of equipment from the main app thread and spin the receiving ends off into their own threads so that the main thread wouldn't lock up when timing is critical. However, I've yet to come to terms with my options. To add to my problems, I need to display the received communications in separate rich text boxes as they're received while the data from one particular device needs to be parsed by the main program, but only the text that results from the most current test (I need the text box to contain all received data though).
So far, I've investigated delegates, handling the threads myself, and just began looking into BackgroundWorkers. I tried to use delegates earlier today, but couldn't figure out a way to update the text boxes. Would I need to use a call back function to do this since I can't do it in the body of the delegate function itself? The problem I see with handling threads myself is figuring out how to pass data back and forth between the thread and the rest of the program. BackgroundWorkers, as I said, I just started investigating so I'm not sure what to think about them yet.

What I want is if the user encode 50 in qty and 2 in scraf factor, actuall qty will automatically computed based on qty multiply by 2. I was using keyup event. Now I am using endedit to get the current value of the current row and column, now the problem is if the amount to be encoded is more than one digit it will not accept because of endedit. What event do I have to used? or any solution with this scenario.

what i want is that when i select Level3 Node it should chek TV2 for the parent of this node. if parent exist it should add the node under the same parent. if parent does not exist it should check for Level 1 Node and if it exist it should add Level 2 Node and then Level 3 Node. I have a class, let's call MyClass. In this class, I have a TreeView property let's call myTreeView..In my code, I populate the Nodes of this TreeView so I can use it later on.Then, when it's time to actualy use it, I haven't been able to take all the nodes from myClass and put them in a Tree View Control on my form.[code]The weird thing is that when debugging, the TreeView in MyClass is well populated with the proper values and in the loop, newNode isn't empty, there's actually something but for some reason it's not showing anything.
View 2 RepliesFor reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

i was developing Voice Chat Application in visual Basic .NET 2008 i try a lot methods to make installer for it :
1- i add Project Setup Project for my Project for Visual Studio 2008 Deploy & setup Type Projects and make it with output option and detect dependices
2- i try make it with Setup Factory 8.2.1
3- i try with MSI Factory 2.0
4 i try with Setup Factory 6.0
and after making installer copying it to my test virtual Machine or my friend lap and install it i get this error when try to run my application :

I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.
View 5 RepliesIf I put this piece of code in a new fresh vb.net form, add a button and two labels and start debug I get execution time of about 11.5s.If I put the same piece of code in a new form in an old project upgraded from an earlier version of vb.net, start debug I get an execution time of 7.5s.So I do exactly the same in the two projects but get different execution times.
What do I have to do with the fresh new project to get the same execution time ?I am not interested in improving the code to be able to calculate primes faster. I just want to know what is the significant difference between an old upgraded project and a new fresh one. I am using windows 7 64bit on a 2,4 Ghz Intel quadcore.

I am following the guidelines from [URL]..Mid way through the process they have you rename your App_Code to Old_App_Code folder and compile ... at which point i had DLL's in my BIN folder and i started to repair my aspx/ascx files.

Today i find the compiled bin files missing an now all my pages are sqwaking they cannot find the numerous Public Class - Public Shared Function's ... I have verified their build action to Compile but am unable to rebuild an have them regenerate on account of project errors.Advice on how to rebuild the bin or how to properly reference a Public Shared Function? My VB code includes an Imports statement taht used to find the class in app_code.
I'm developing application that is plugable. The plugins are loaded via Assembly.LoadFrom(). In my solution I have 4 projects. A WPF, 2 DLL and another DLL that is a plugin for the app. The plugin project references one of the other DLLs. When I build the Solution and run I was getting an error trying to use the plugin dll because it was expecting an older version of the referenced project. I had to clean and rebuild the plugin project to get it to run correctly.

I am developing a Multi-Project solution (A, B) in Visual Studio 2008.
I need to run a second project from the start up one and then the first project should be closed.
The matter is that I want to Exit the A.exe and kill the process and the dll that are depending on it. And then Run the B.exe.
I am using 8 different vb projects in one solution, beside this I am also using one 3rd party control ion all the projects, while compiling the application it takes around 5 minutes to build the project, While building the application I have observe that it uses lc.exe file which is used for "Reads text files that contain licensing information and produces a .licenses file that can be embedded in a common language run time executable." at this point it takes too much time.

I createdindows Form application, built it and deployed it with no problems. However, when I added a small block of code, re-built the app and went to add the app to the Project Output Group in the file system editor the project was not in the Project drop down list. I closed the Setup project and deleted it from the project folder and checked my code and re-built the app and tried the Set Up project again with the same result
