View 5 RepliesFor reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
View 2 RepliesI am developing a Multi-Project solution (A, B) in Visual Studio 2008.
I need to run a second project from the start up one and then the first project should be closed.
The matter is that I want to Exit the A.exe and kill the process and the dll that are depending on it. And then Run the B.exe.
I have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database. It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project. This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project? What I'm after is like using classes. My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.

View 2 Repliesi was developing Voice Chat Application in visual Basic .NET 2008 i try a lot methods to make installer for it :
1- i add Project Setup Project for my Project for Visual Studio 2008 Deploy & setup Type Projects and make it with output option and detect dependices
2- i try make it with Setup Factory 8.2.1
3- i try with MSI Factory 2.0
4 i try with Setup Factory 6.0
and after making installer copying it to my test virtual Machine or my friend lap and install it i get this error when try to run my application :
[Code]...
I have an error that keeps regenerating when the form is closed and open back up.
1) Windows Form Application (Project: TestProject)
2) Add class in same project:
Public Class Test : Inherits System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
3) Drag and drop into the form within the project (works fine)
4) Close form
5) Re-open form... then error about the class Test in the project not defined
Actual Error: Type 'TestProject.Test' is not defined.
Is there a best way around this besides creating a separate project and putting the 'Test' class in that separate project and referring that separate project in the 'TestProject'?
Modified Added: By the way... i've used Global.TestProject.Test... but then again another error generate with the custom property within the 'Test' class.
If there already is a thread for this, then appologies.I have a VB project which displays a message to the User and has a button they can click on to continiue. What i would like is for when the user clicks this continue button another VB app opens up All straight forward so far.The problem is that in the second app id like to open, i have a few different tab pages and id like to be able to open the second app on a specific tab page (Which is not the default when the app opens). Is this possible?
View 3 RepliesI am using VS 2008 and I have a solution with multiple projects. I would like to know how to open a form in project B from a Form in project A. The solution starts with the form in project A.I have tried the following and it does not produce the expected behaviour:In Form A I have added a reference to the Project B. The following code is in a form in project A. appraisal is a form in project B.
Dim appraisalForm As New appraisalApp.appraisal
appraisalForm.Show()
The above solution works to a degree. As the form is instantiated in Project A, I cannot reference any of the items in the form in Project B as I could if the Form in project B was instatiated through startup.
Create a DLL component for database operation and use created component in another project. Required methods, events and properties
a. Connect
b. Add
c. Delete
d. Save
e. Record navigation (first, next, previous, last)
f. Properties for all database fields
g. Events for validation of database fields.
I have a number of projects in a solution and want to be able to access forms in all of the projects from a form in the main project. I thought of doing this to keep each segment of the solution manageble. If something goes seriously wrong in one of the projects it is easier to fix that starting from scratch with the whole solution.I have found numerous suggestions on this topic from "It cannot be done" to suggestions that do not work. The closest that I have come and still does not work is as follows:
Imports VAT_List.Form1 'This is Form1 in Project 2
Public Class Form1 ' This is Form1 in the Main Project
Private Sub ListsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListsToolStripMenuItem.Click
'Imports VAT_List.Form1

How to add an existing form of old project to a new project? Which extension type files to be added to work that existing form correctly?
I actually need frmContacts.vb (because a lot of textboxes and other controls are there) which I have added. Since it doesn't show any existing controls on form, I added other following files as well.
1) frmContacts.vb
2) frmContacts.Designer.vb
3) frmContacts.Designer.vb

I actually need frmContacts.vb(because a lot of textboxes and other controls are there) which I have added now to my New Project. Since it doesn't show any existing controls on form, I added other following files as well. Though there is no use.

I am really new to Visual Studio and VB and I am having trouble closing a single form:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Me.Close()
End Sub
When I use Me.close() associated with this button it closes the entire project and not just the single form can anyone.
I have made a small program with a few forms that do not run in order 1,2,3
The login form is form 2.

I have a project the was written by someone else. I am very new to VB. I am trying to make changes the the project. When I first opened it it went through the conversion with no errors. The report has not errors however when I try to open the project I get the error "vbproj cannot be opened because this project type (.vbproj) is not supported by this version of the application". I am using VB2008 Express and have read all the other responses to the issue but Ijust do not know waht to do.
View 3 Repliesdo not know if what has previously been faced with this problem but I can not open my vb.net project and Windows Forms. Here's what it's written when I try to open the Visual Basic 2008 application.
Unable to read the project file links like mediafire.vbproj and after that throws the table next project package load failure: (So I tried to reinstall anything anyway. And even tried to create a Setup Wizard program is not open. And one more thing I do not like what I do not know how to create a program installer wizard so that the program is open without any Visual Basic program in 2008 and hidden codes. Is it possible to do this? If so how to do that ?

View 10 RepliesIn my project i have created few folders to better structure my forms.. my problem is how can i call up (open) a form in a different folder.
eg. Form1 is located in main directory, how to open form2 which is located in a folder called Folder2 (within same project)
I'm running VS2010, and I'm trying to open (or show) a form from a different project. My solution contains 3 projects: #1-The main program, #2-a custom control DLL, #3-a report generator project.I want to use a menu item click in project #1, to open (Load & show) a form in project #3. I can't figure out how to programmatically get access to the a form in a project #3.

I have made the bad mistake of renaming FORM1 directly on the Solution explorer with the result of me unable to open the form in both designer and code.
The error is:
The Form1.vb does not exist. It may have been renamed, moved or deleted
I have a project in visual basic 6.0 and a ms access as a backend database.I want to create a component also in visual basic 6.0,out of my project and to call it to my project using dll.

No luck.
View 5 RepliesI made a change to a project and hve induced a major problem. I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.
View 5 RepliesI have read a lot of the prior questions/answers on this topic but it only took me so far. I have a solution to which I added 2 additional programs. These 2 added programs in essence create a PDF2TIFF converter using GS. I wish to call that form and use it as a utility from my main program. After reading other answers in the forum, I added these two programs as references in the main program and imported everything available, into the main program. I have what seems to be a correct build order set up. I want to open the form in the utility project(s) from a link on my main form. I tried a few things but the only way I could write the code without errors was to instantiate the second program then call that with a button click.

I have been making a order processing system for a friends company and have 99% completed it. i was going through everything double checking all the components and i put a "DotNetBar" component on the form but then deleted it as i didnt need it. i only have a trial version of the dotnetbar and do not plan on publishing the software with the component on.
so after i deleted the component from the form i built a test version of the system and installed it on a different computer but when installing an error appeared saying something along the lines of dotnetbar component cannot be found. i couldn't find any trace of the component in the page.designer.vb file.
im by far no expert in vb (this is the first real program i have developed for actual use), i cannot find any way of getting all traces of the component of the project.
If I put this piece of code in a new fresh vb.net form, add a button and two labels and start debug I get execution time of about 11.5s.If I put the same piece of code in a new form in an old project upgraded from an earlier version of vb.net, start debug I get an execution time of 7.5s.So I do exactly the same in the two projects but get different execution times.
What do I have to do with the fresh new project to get the same execution time ?I am not interested in improving the code to be able to calculate primes faster. I just want to know what is the significant difference between an old upgraded project and a new fresh one. I am using windows 7 64bit on a 2,4 Ghz Intel quadcore.

I am following the guidelines from [URL]..Mid way through the process they have you rename your App_Code to Old_App_Code folder and compile ... at which point i had DLL's in my BIN folder and i started to repair my aspx/ascx files.
e
Today i find the compiled bin files missing an now all my pages are sqwaking they cannot find the numerous Public Class - Public Shared Function's ... I have verified their build action to Compile but am unable to rebuild an have them regenerate on account of project errors.Advice on how to rebuild the bin or how to properly reference a Public Shared Function? My VB code includes an Imports statement taht used to find the class in app_code.
I'm developing application that is plugable. The plugins are loaded via Assembly.LoadFrom(). In my solution I have 4 projects. A WPF, 2 DLL and another DLL that is a plugin for the app. The plugin project references one of the other DLLs. When I build the Solution and run I was getting an error trying to use the plugin dll because it was expecting an older version of the referenced project. I had to clean and rebuild the plugin project to get it to run correctly.
