I have a project in visual basic 6.0 and a ms access as a backend database.I want to create a component also in visual basic 6.0,out of my project and to call it to my project using dll.

View 5 RepliesI'm making some archeology, dealing with COM+I managed to enlist a simple COM dll as a COM+ component, so far so good.So I've got this 'foobar' com+ component, with it's interface, and the method I'd like to call.My question is then rally simple: how am I supposed to make a call to this component?.NET or VB6 answer is accepted (I have to check the component is OK, don't care about the client)
Edit (06/03/09): Well, I'm confused. so as to work properly, my COM+ component needs it's dll to be registered. Why not? But then, how to be sure I'm making a COM+ call, and not a COM one?

View 6 RepliesI have been making a order processing system for a friends company and have 99% completed it. i was going through everything double checking all the components and i put a "DotNetBar" component on the form but then deleted it as i didnt need it. i only have a trial version of the dotnetbar and do not plan on publishing the software with the component on.
so after i deleted the component from the form i built a test version of the system and installed it on a different computer but when installing an error appeared saying something along the lines of dotnetbar component cannot be found. i couldn't find any trace of the component in the page.designer.vb file.
im by far no expert in vb (this is the first real program i have developed for actual use), i cannot find any way of getting all traces of the component of the project.
I hear COM here and there and I want to know is COM and a COM dll the same thing, and most important: when I create a Class library project is that a COM component?
View 3 RepliesI have an error that keeps regenerating when the form is closed and open back up.
1) Windows Form Application (Project: TestProject)
2) Add class in same project:
Public Class Test : Inherits System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
3) Drag and drop into the form within the project (works fine)
4) Close form
5) Re-open form... then error about the class Test in the project not defined
Actual Error: Type 'TestProject.Test' is not defined.
Is there a best way around this besides creating a separate project and putting the 'Test' class in that separate project and referring that separate project in the 'TestProject'?
Modified Added: By the way... i've used Global.TestProject.Test... but then again another error generate with the custom property within the 'Test' class.

I have a simple Win App VB project with a single form in it. I also have an Active X component which I am adding onto this form. This component is made in C++. On building the VB project i get the message "COM Reference 'CPPLib' is the interop assembly for ActiveX control 'AxCPPLib' but was marked to be linked by the compiler with the /link flag. This COM reference will be treated as a reference and will not be linked." but it compiles successfully. When i try rebuilding it or opening the view designer of the form VS2010 crashes. The project is locally creating two dlls namely "Interop.CPPLib.dll" & "AxInterop.CPPLib.dll". I have made the Embed interop types False for both these references.

I can have a reference added to the project that I want to show a form from and still builds fine, every time I do something like this: Dim form_to_show as new Project2.Form1 form_to_show.show() It appears to corrupt the RESX file and stops compiling...it's really getting anoying..

View 2 RepliesThe company I work for has a VB6 project that is using an ACCESS database.The project consists of seperate modules such as Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger, and Inventory.At the current time each module is a seperate project in VB6 and the EXE files are called when needed.In total there are about 1300 forms in the project.We are moving from ACCESS to Sql Server and from VB6 to VB2008.The question that I (we) have is as follows; Should we continue to keep each module seperate and call the EXE's or should we create one large project?What are the pros and cons for each way?Is there something written that explains the advantages of either?
View 5 RepliesI've created a component whose name I'd like to be able to change while editing in the component tray. I've added a Designer action for a name property, but now I'm stuck.
Looking at the property grid, I can see that the name property is parenthesised, indicating that it's not a regular property.
For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

2- i try make it with Setup Factory 8.2.1
3- i try with MSI Factory 2.0
4 i try with Setup Factory 6.0
and after making installer copying it to my test virtual Machine or my friend lap and install it i get this error when try to run my application :

VB 2005 Express Visual BasicI want to move (part of) projects to different projects/ computer.I used File - export template- and was able to save templates of whole project or item(s).They saved nicely in a subdirectory called "templates" as zip files.How do I import to 1/ other project on same pc?2/ To a different computer?I tried copy zip files into corresponding folder on new system. No luck.

I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.
