Accessing A Form In One Project From Another Project?
Feb 11, 2010
I have a number of projects in a solution and want to be able to access forms in all of the projects from a form in the main project. I thought of doing this to keep each segment of the solution manageble. If something goes seriously wrong in one of the projects it is easier to fix that starting from scratch with the whole solution.I have found numerous suggestions on this topic from "It cannot be done" to suggestions that do not work. The closest that I have come and still does not work is as follows:
Imports VAT_List.Form1 'This is Form1 in Project 2
Public Class Form1 ' This is Form1 in the Main Project
Private Sub ListsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListsToolStripMenuItem.Click
'Imports VAT_List.Form1
For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
how to access a form in a different project but within the same solution? Say I click a button on one form to display another form which is a part of the same solution but resides in a different project.
I have created a project, and with form3, created a class for datagridview called MyDtGrd.nd when I created a form4 I used that same MyDtGrd. When I used before to publish the program no problem. But after publishing When I tried to make changes, giving error like"The variable MyDtGrd is either undeclared or was never assigned"Is there any technique to access the same class oject to use in other forms?
I have a "windows form" user control--that is, not on a web page etc. This user control has a form within the user control project. However, code from within the user control can't 'see' the form even though it is a public class---I don't understand why this is the case.
So how can I access the controls (a couple of radio buttons) on the form from code within the user control? I tried creating public properties on the form to return the state of the radiobuttons, but this still doesn't work. I get a "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference." error
Should I not be able to see the form since it is a public class?
I have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database. It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project. This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project? What I'm after is like using classes. My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.
I have declared a dataset (let's call it 'Fred') as public in a VARs module. In the main form in a sub routine called at the start of the project I connect to an Excel spreadsheet and read it into the 'Fred' dataset into one table (called 'Table') I then bind the dataset table to a datagridview and I can see the spreadsheet. Which is very nice :-)
Having loaded the dataset I want to be able to get some values so I created a button and used the following
msg = Fred.Tables("Table").Rows(0).Item("Name")
I think this should get the value in the first row and in the column called 'Name' in the table called 'Table'
But I get an error when I click the button 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' which I think means I need to use the 'New' keyword...
So I added to the button
Dim Fred = New DataSet
But I get the same error.
Now I have to admit that I've never really got my head around how to use the 'New' keyword and would have hoped to be able to get data from a dataset through my entire project - especially as I've declared it as 'Public'. Surely if I use 'New' all over the place then I create new datasets
I have coded two seperate VB.net windows forms application as two seperate projects in seperate solutions. I now want to combine one project called "Reporting" into the other project called "AnalysisApp" and be able to call the Reporting apps main form. The Reporting app utilies a whole load of controls from DevExpress which are not included in the "AnalysisApp" I have added references in "AnalysisApp" to the DevEpress controls and also to the Reporting app, as well as combining the Reporting app into the same solution, but when I build the "AnalysisApp" it fails saying that it cannot find the DevExpress DLLs
How to add an existing form of old project to a new project? Which extension type files to be added to work that existing form correctly?
I actually need frmContacts.vb (because a lot of textboxes and other controls are there) which I have added. Since it doesn't show any existing controls on form, I added other following files as well.
How to add an existing form of old project to a new project? Which extension type files to be added to work that existing form correctly?
I actually need frmContacts.vb(because a lot of textboxes and other controls are there) which I have added now to my New Project. Since it doesn't show any existing controls on form, I added other following files as well. Though there is no use.
I developed a project in VB.NET..In this project I want to use data from MySQL that is resides in my WEB Server.I can communicate with the MySQL server of my localhost but can not communicate with the WEB Server. In my CPanel I added Host from the Remote Database Access..But I can't communicate with WEB MySQL Server.
I am trying to access the types file from the project directory for the web root directory. Currently it only accesses it from the C:/, how can I have it access this file from the web root. I would like the file to be in the project folder as types.txt.
I have a solution with several projects most of which are code or control libraries. I have a main windows forms application that references and uses these libraries. What i am trying to do is create a 2nd windows application that extends the main one, but i would like to be able to deploy them as separate exe's.
When i try to add a reference to the new app referencing the main app; all seems fine until i try to run the new app i get several error msgs similar to below:
Error 1 Could not find file 'ADODB.dll' referenced by assembly 'D:Visual Studio 2005ProjectsXXXinDebugXXX.exe.manifest'. <newAppName>
i have tried adding references to all the dll's in the error messages and they are still listed when i try to run the new app. I thought of a few work arounds but they require user changes to maintain separate exe's at deployment. I would like to avoid this if possible.
I am using VS 2008 and I have a solution with multiple projects. I would like to know how to open a form in project B from a Form in project A. The solution starts with the form in project A.I have tried the following and it does not produce the expected behaviour:In Form A I have added a reference to the Project B. The following code is in a form in project A. appraisal is a form in project B.
Dim appraisalForm As New appraisalApp.appraisal appraisalForm.Show()
The above solution works to a degree. As the form is instantiated in Project A, I cannot reference any of the items in the form in Project B as I could if the Form in project B was instatiated through startup.
VB 2005 Express Visual BasicI want to move (part of) projects to different projects/ computer.I used File - export template- and was able to save templates of whole project or item(s).They saved nicely in a subdirectory called "templates" as zip files. How do I import to 1/ other project on same pc?2/ To a different computer?I tried copy zip files into corresponding folder on new system. No luck.
I made a change to a project and hve induced a major problem. I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.
If I put this piece of code in a new fresh vb.net form, add a button and two labels and start debug I get execution time of about 11.5s.If I put the same piece of code in a new form in an old project upgraded from an earlier version of vb.net, start debug I get an execution time of 7.5s.So I do exactly the same in the two projects but get different execution times.
What do I have to do with the fresh new project to get the same execution time ?I am not interested in improving the code to be able to calculate primes faster. I just want to know what is the significant difference between an old upgraded project and a new fresh one. I am using windows 7 64bit on a 2,4 Ghz Intel quadcore.
Public Class Form2 Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim l, h, p As Integer
I am following the guidelines from [URL]..Mid way through the process they have you rename your App_Code to Old_App_Code folder and compile ... at which point i had DLL's in my BIN folder and i started to repair my aspx/ascx files. e Today i find the compiled bin files missing an now all my pages are sqwaking they cannot find the numerous Public Class - Public Shared Function's ... I have verified their build action to Compile but am unable to rebuild an have them regenerate on account of project errors.Advice on how to rebuild the bin or how to properly reference a Public Shared Function? My VB code includes an Imports statement taht used to find the class in app_code.
I'm developing application that is plugable. The plugins are loaded via Assembly.LoadFrom(). In my solution I have 4 projects. A WPF, 2 DLL and another DLL that is a plugin for the app. The plugin project references one of the other DLLs. When I build the Solution and run I was getting an error trying to use the plugin dll because it was expecting an older version of the referenced project. I had to clean and rebuild the plugin project to get it to run correctly.
I am using 8 different vb projects in one solution, beside this I am also using one 3rd party control ion all the projects, while compiling the application it takes around 5 minutes to build the project, While building the application I have observe that it uses lc.exe file which is used for "Reads text files that contain licensing information and produces a .licenses file that can be embedded in a common language run time executable." at this point it takes too much time.
I new to this Forum and relatively new to VB programming. I have read some really good posts here and thought I would ask about a perplexing problem I'm having. I createdindows Form application, built it and deployed it with no problems. However, when I added a small block of code, re-built the app and went to add the app to the Project Output Group in the file system editor the project was not in the Project drop down list. I closed the Setup project and deleted it from the project folder and checked my code and re-built the app and tried the Set Up project again with the same result
Has anyone else had issues with Visual Basic 2010?My visual basic program has been running fine for months but recently every time I try and load a project (any project) the program freezes, then I have to close it down and reload, every time I load Visual basic for the second time I get the following error:
HTML
An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error.Plus when trying to run a project in debug it takes ages to load (around 5 minutes) this has only started happening recently, projects were loading in seconds.
Having successfully tried out nHibernate, I would now like to try using Fluent for mapping. My main project is in vb.net but I would really like to use c# for the mappings since the lambda expression capability makes it much cleaner. Can you have a separate project/assembly for your mapping files without creating a circular dependency with domain objects?
