I am trying to access the types file from the project directory for the web root directory. Currently it only accesses it from the C:/, how can I have it access this file from the web root. I would like the file to be in the project folder as types.txt.

My current solution consists of several Class Libraries and a Website. I'm in the process of globalizing the application and I realized that my resources need to be accessed by all the projects not just the website so placing my resources in the App_GlobalResources folder didn't work. I added my resources to one my class Libraries and now I'm trying to figure out what the best way of accessing the resources are from my markup. When my resources were in the App_GlobalResources folder I was able to access them by using an expression such as this: <$ Resources: MyApp.Name %> for server controls
Or <%=Resources.MyApp.Name %> for plain text
What's the best way of accessing my Resources from my website aspx files now that they are in a Class Library DLL?

2, 3, 43, 5, 6 etc., in each row.
Now I want to search for that row which contains e.g 2 in column strval. I use
SELECT *
FROM tbl where tbl.strval IN( '2' )
but this doesn't work.

View 7 RepliesI'm creating a simple .NET console application where I want to save a file in a folder that's part of the root project, like so: SolutionName.ProjectNameTestData. I want to put test.xml into the TestData folder. However, when I go to save my XDocument, it saves it to SolutionName.ProjectNameinx86Debug Console est.xml.
View 3 RepliesFor some annoying reason you can actually create directories with full stops in them... and Microsoft just so happened to of set the default path for one of the Exchange server log files to go into a folder named Server.log. Yes it is definitley a folder not a file, there are .log files within the folder too though.
So, I'm trying to parse some of these tab delimited log files but I cant actually get at them because whenever I try and access the Server.log directory my code just dies. I mean, it doesnt throw an exception, it just stops executing. The form is still responsive etc but the parsing routing doesnt do anything and if i step into the code i see that it gets to the line that tries to access the server.log directory and then it just jumps straight out of debug mode.
If i move one of the log files out of the Server.log directory then my code works fine so what can I do?I tried using IO.Path.Combine but that doesnt work either (and for once I'm not saying "it doesnt work" and giving you no error details because im useless, its just because there are no error details!)
how would i go over an external directory listing (like an external computer that i am connected to through winsock or likewise) with a server and client..i would like to hear some suggestions on what libraries to use also (winsock, unolib,...)I need this for a school assignment so help is more than welcome. I'm planning on letting the client download files from the server through this directory listing or something likewise..it doesn't matter really if it's a directory listing or something else, it just has to be user-friendly.

View 10 RepliesI have an external project (DLL) that I have referenced in my project. One of the requirements of using that DLL is to include an XML file in the same directory as the DLL. Now I know in a production environment I could just add that DLL to the GAC and place the XML file in that same folder. However, that doesn't help me when I'm trying to debug it. I have tried including it into the BIN directory but it never gets moved to the Temp directory when compiled.

I have a number of projects in a solution and want to be able to access forms in all of the projects from a form in the main project. I thought of doing this to keep each segment of the solution manageble. If something goes seriously wrong in one of the projects it is easier to fix that starting from scratch with the whole solution.I have found numerous suggestions on this topic from "It cannot be done" to suggestions that do not work. The closest that I have come and still does not work is as follows:

I am trying to display an image from a Virtual Directory that is within my website. If I use the follwoing code the image is displayed on the on the Page:

But if I try displaying the image in an Image control useing the following code the image isn't displayed:

I am building an intranet site and i want to display the users email(not the complete email), but the subject, from, date and time. However, the first step would be connecting to the exchange server using the NTLM credentials, which are the same, however, i dont want the user to have to type their password to connect to the email.

View 11 RepliesI have declared a dataset (let's call it 'Fred') as public in a VARs module. In the main form in a sub routine called at the start of the project I connect to an Excel spreadsheet and read it into the 'Fred' dataset into one table (called 'Table') I then bind the dataset table to a datagridview and I can see the spreadsheet. Which is very nice :-)
Having loaded the dataset I want to be able to get some values so I created a button and used the following
msg = Fred.Tables("Table").Rows(0).Item("Name")
I think this should get the value in the first row and in the column called 'Name' in the table called 'Table'
But I get an error when I click the button 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' which I think means I need to use the 'New' keyword...
So I added to the button
Dim Fred = New DataSet
But I get the same error.
Now I have to admit that I've never really got my head around how to use the 'New' keyword and would have hoped to be able to get data from a dataset through my entire project - especially as I've declared it as 'Public'. Surely if I use 'New' all over the place then I create new datasets
I have a simple extension which makes all chars in incoming string uppercase. I created this extension as DLL file (with namespace "Extensions"). But when I make reference to this DLL, then this namespace doesn't appear in Imports, hence I can't use my extension. Here's question: why I can't put extension into separate assembly?

I now want to combine one project called "Reporting" into the other project called "AnalysisApp" and be able to call the Reporting apps main form.The Reporting app utilies a whole load of controls from DevExpress which are not included in the "AnalysisApp" I have added references in "AnalysisApp" to the DevEpress controls and also to the Reporting app, as well as combining the Reporting app into the same solution, but when I build the "AnalysisApp" it fails saying that it cannot find the DevExpress DLLs

View 8 RepliesWhen you add a file that the project will use (in my case an Excel file) and set it to be copied to the output directory, you can of course add a string to a class with the file name in it to use the file. I was wondering though does Visual Studio automatically generate a member somewhere that contains the name of the file? Perhaps in the My Namespace?
Kind of like how when you set the Build Action to Resource, Visual Studio generates a member in the My.Resources namespace for reference. Whenever I change the name of the file in the Solution Explorer it would be nice if I had some method that would automatically update the file name in the code.

View 2 RepliesI have a "windows form" user control--that is, not on a web page etc. This user control has a form within the user control project. However, code from within the user control can't 'see' the form even though it is a public class---I don't understand why this is the case.
So how can I access the controls (a couple of radio buttons) on the form from code within the user control? I tried creating public properties on the form to return the state of the radiobuttons, but this still doesn't work. I get a "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference." error
Should I not be able to see the form since it is a public class?

I have two aspx pages. I need to send a textbox(record_id) value as a parameter from page1.aspx to page2.aspx to be utilized within a SqlCommand query in the VB code behind page. I would like to pass this parameter using the session. Page1 is a gridview which displays records from a sql datasource and on the edit button click the user is redirected to page2 which populates several textboxes and drop down lists and allows the user to edit the record.
