the problem i met is that i have iis 7 running on my pc.in the root file, wwwroot, i have a website folder, namely [apex] which is a virtual directory. in the folder is a bin folder containing a compiled class with namespace.then in an aspx file, i tried to import the namespace and use the class inside the namespace.
[code]...
the namespace and classname has been checked well, no mistake. but at compiling stage, i got "type is not defined " message. ok,then, in iis 7 control panel, i convert the whole website folder from "virtual directory" to "application" type. the problem goes away!

I have an external project (DLL) that I have referenced in my project. One of the requirements of using that DLL is to include an XML file in the same directory as the DLL. Now I know in a production environment I could just add that DLL to the GAC and place the XML file in that same folder. However, that doesn't help me when I'm trying to debug it. I have tried including it into the BIN directory but it never gets moved to the Temp directory when compiled.

A little while ago, I managed to get WebServices to return JSON as well as XML from the code-behind of an ASPX.
Today, I needed to migrate an existing ASMX WebService to return JSON instead of XML (which was accomplished with little fuss). My problem became evident in testing the new method.
In the code-behind for the ASMX, I created a new method to return JSON instead of XML. The method works, in that it returns the expected JSON however the new routine breaks every XML-returning method in the code-behind (they all throw "System.NotSupportedException: The type System.Collections.Hashtable is not supported because it implements IDictionary." which is unexpected because the return types are all defined as XmlDocument).
If I simply comment out the JSON-returning method, the XML-returning methods function normally. Uncommenting out the JSON-returning method breaks the XML-returning methods again.
While I cannot find any supporting documentation anywhere, this behavior leads me to believe that in ASP.Net 2.0, JSON-returning methods cannot co-exist in the same module as XML-returning methods.
This led me to try separating the methods in sub-classes like so:
<WebService(Namespace:="http://tempura.org/")> _
<WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo:=WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)> _
<ScriptService()> _

I'm trying to write an application that will allow a non-administrator user to create virtual directories in IIS6. I've tried numerous different ways of impersonating a administrative account but nothing seems to work to create the virtual directory.
Here's some of what I've tried:
dim sDirPath as string = "IIS://remotehost/W3svc/1/root"
Dim de As DirectoryEntry = New DirectoryEntry()
de.Path = sDirPath
de.AuthenticationType = AuthenticationTypes.Secure
de.Username = tbxUsername.Text
[Code] .....
what is the correct way to impersonate another user in winforms application that will allow me to create the virtual directory without the user that's running the application being an administrator on the web server? I know this can be done, IIS manager allows you to use "connect as" checkbox to do it.

What I'm trying to do is upload a file (image) to (possibly) a new directory. My logic is as follows;
If NOT Directory("[URL]" + UserID).Exists
CreateDirectory("[URL]" + UserID)
UploadImage("[URL]" + UserID, Image)
Else
UploadImage("[URL]" + UserID, Image)
End If
Is there a way to do this with WebClient or HttpWebRequest?

For some annoying reason you can actually create directories with full stops in them... and Microsoft just so happened to of set the default path for one of the Exchange server log files to go into a folder named Server.log. Yes it is definitley a folder not a file, there are .log files within the folder too though.
So, I'm trying to parse some of these tab delimited log files but I cant actually get at them because whenever I try and access the Server.log directory my code just dies. I mean, it doesnt throw an exception, it just stops executing. The form is still responsive etc but the parsing routing doesnt do anything and if i step into the code i see that it gets to the line that tries to access the server.log directory and then it just jumps straight out of debug mode.
If i move one of the log files out of the Server.log directory then my code works fine so what can I do?I tried using IO.Path.Combine but that doesnt work either (and for once I'm not saying "it doesnt work" and giving you no error details because im useless, its just because there are no error details!)

I've a requirement to have PreCompiled webpages and Non-PreCompiled webpages under same application. For example below is my structure:
/Bin
/Test1 (PreCompiled)
/Test2 (NonPreCompiled)
/Test3 (PreCompiled)
I would like these to have their separate "Bin" folders too if possible at all (I tried using "Probing" but I guess that's not allowed for web apps and defaults to "Bin" folder). If not that then definitely some ability for these to work together under one app/virtual directory because I'm not allowed to create another at any cost :(

I am building an intranet site and i want to display the users email(not the complete email), but the subject, from, date and time. However, the first step would be connecting to the exchange server using the NTLM credentials, which are the same, however, i dont want the user to have to type their password to connect to the email.

I've been trying to find a Windows API function I can use to generate a virtual file handle in Windows. I'm working with VPC/xVM and I want to create a virtual machine that actually points to my physical hard drive - the methods provided with VPC and xVM for this really suck (I've never been able to get it to work with either virtualization product).

I'm trying to create a virtual piano using pictureboxes to represent keys that play .wav file versions of notes. I've gotten this to work fine; however, I'm having trouble with two features I want to implement.The first feature is to be able to save what I play in a text file. I thought I could use this code but I'm getting an error. [code] The second feature is to play random keys using the random class. Is there any way I could store the pictureboxes in an array and then use the random class?

Is this possible ? Im creating a desktop wallpaper changer using a timer to set a delay between images. the images im my directory folder is numbered from 1-15. If you look at the pic below theres an option to select how many images the user wants to display on the slideshow, if a user selects up to 15 thats fine. But what can i do if the user enters a number that exceeds the number of images in the directory.

I am working on a school project to display a photo of a professor when their name is selected using a RadioButton and to display their name, office office hours and so on.
I have their Photos in a directory on my computer
Theonly thing I cannot figure out is how to use 1 picturebox and link the image to display to the radiobutton.
I have tried all kinds of queries on the internet and cannot locate the answer. There might be something with an Image.FromFile command I saw but that might have been from a previous version of VB and I could not get it to work in VB9.

I have some code that allows the user to browse for an image and then when that image is opened, it is copied to a new directory. This all works fine, but I would like to know if there is a way to create a thumbnail of this image and save it into a subdirectory inside the directory where the original image has already been copied?
