View 3 RepliesI have seen questions like What is the best way to empty a directory?
But i need to know,
what is the fastest way of deleting all the files found within the directory, except any .zip files found.
Smells like linq here... or what?
UPDATE: By saying fastest way, i mean the Fastest execution time.
I have VB 2008. How can I delete ALL files in a directory with the extension ".gif" ?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to delete multiple files in a certain directory. I need to delete *.o, *.r, *.w, *.rs, *.op, *.os. My coding does not seem to be working.
My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory = "c:RELAP5MOD4Demo"
I have a process serves as an application updater.It checks it's local cache of files and compares this against list of files online.On it's first run there are no files in the local cache and it therefore downloads ~100 of these files.[code]This appears to work very well, since Explorer confirms that all files are extracted and available.However when I later run this process again, it cannot verify the existence of 6 of these files and therefore tries to download them despite the fact that they are clearly both present and up to date.The offending code is a simple File.Exists call which appears to deny the local existence of these files, and therefore tries to get them again.The system continues to work well, but over time the continual downloading of these 6 files is going to get kind of silly.
View 1 RepliesI want to add all image files in the current directory into my listbox1 when i press button1 Just like how u may open by OpenFileDialog or Drag & Drop but I want it to move all .jpg files in the current directory into the listbox so i do not have to use OpenFileDialog or Drag & Drop I am not sure how I can do this and the only code I could think about using is something linking to current directory.

The code below displays a thumbnail of each image in a specific server directory and when I click on the image it pops up a nice full sized picture. It works perfectly.
I would however, like to be able to delete an image. I first thought I could have a button at the bottom of the page with a checkbox next to each image, giving it a uniqueID as per the filename but as they are dynamically created I couldn't figure how to handle the Click Event on the button for a randomly named Checkbox ID. Then I tried adding a button next to each item and then tried an OnClick & OnServerClick to call a Sub but this didn't work either.
Private Sub ImageList()
If Directory.Exists(Server.MapPath("JobImages" & DBC_JOB_JobID.Text)) Then

I have a sansa fuze and i have to make my own playlist for it so i want to have the program read the songs that are on there and show it to you in the list box and you can check off the ones you want then it will read the mp3 files to make the playlist, it needs the path, name, and duration from the mp3 file. i can get the name and the path so far...
I am going to need to create a windows form for work that we can connect to a database table, select a directory and move files from the directory that are in the table and move to another folder. The directory will have sub directories that I need to search for the file name and move. I would like to have the table hold the file name (or path) and move all files that are in the database. There might be 20 files or 1000. Depends on the client we are processing for.

I'm using a dialog box to select multiple files and move them to the directory "C:/Playlist". I guess you can say I'm having trouble with 2 things.

2. Use of the dialogs FileNames function

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:
For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase
If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database
Next
[Code]....
Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?

When the user deletes a client, I copy the contents of Documents into the Past Documents folder. Next, I need to delete the Documents folder, but there are existing files within that folder, so it won't let me delete it. What is the easiest way to delete ALL files within that folder?

View 1 RepliesSo I have a program that allows the user to load up some images, which appear in a ListBox. You can click the imported images and they load into a PictureBox. [code]The path is not of a legal form.You can load up the code and see for yourself. Now I need to be able to delete these images from the ListBox. The exception occurs because the image is now null, and can't load.

I'm experiencing a wierd problem deleting some .csv files. Any .csv files named 1.csv, 2.csv, or 3.csv will not delete using delete() method of system.io namespace. if i do any number greater than 3 it works. For example, 4.csv, 5.csv, etc. works fine. 1.xls, 2.xls also is ok. The error it is throwing in my log is 'access to the file is denied.' Nothing is using the file. I even copied a new file into the directory and it does not work. I even created a 1.csv in a totally different directory with no luck. What is going on with this? Has anyone ever experienced this?
