I'm creating a simple .NET console application where I want to save a file in a folder that's part of the root project, like so: SolutionName.ProjectNameTestData. I want to put test.xml into the TestData folder. However, when I go to save my XDocument, it saves it to SolutionName.ProjectNameinx86Debug Console est.xml.

I'm new to this forum and new to programming (literally just a week or so). I'm trying to write a program that uses a combo box selection accompanied with a button that when pressed, will download a file off a website, save it to my desktop and the run itself.[code]The thing I want my code to do is to universally be able to save the file to the desktop of any windows OS a user may be using. I'm going to end up having people using XP, Vista and Win7 use this application and each of those I believe have a different root to reach the desktop. Instead of having to hard code each and every scenario, there must be an easier way, right? Can you guys help me figure out what the syntax is for getting the users windows username and desktop location so that no matter what OS they're using, the file will always be downloaded to their desktop?

I'm trying to do the following I'm not sure if it's possible using VB.NET. I want to specify default saving point for all files type for example: In my program you choose the path "C:UsersMarkusPictures" for pictures and everytime you download pictures files from website, or using skype or any other program when Save File Dialog opens up (external one not via my program or connected to vb.net just the windows default one) then it will show "C:UsersMarkusPictures" always for .jpg .gif type of files etc...

well I want it to look like this: [Textbox] [Browse] [Start] So you click browse, find the exe file, click ok(or something like that) and then click start I also want to make it so it saves the location of the last exe file it started, so you dont have to browse for it every time you use the program.

I have a read only file and I am using System.Diagnostics.Process to open the file.If a user tries to save the file the "Save As" dialog box opens because the file is read only. The "Save As" dialog box brings them to the directory from where the file was opened from.

I have a mySQL table(IMP_SCANS) holding the file, it's name and size for every document:
scan_1 blob
description varchar
filesize int
doc_no varchar
doc_date date
I managed to insert a file to the table. Now I need to save the file to disk.
So I have the code:
Dim conn As New MySqlConnection
Dim cmd As New MySqlCommand
Dim myData As MySqlDataReader
Dim SQL As String
Dim FileSize As UInt32
Dim fs As FileStream
[CODE]............
I all works fine up to the line: myData.GetBytes(myData.GetOrdinal("scan_1"), 0, rawData, 0, filesize) Where it says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". I cannot figure out why I receive this error.

I am creating a program that allows a person to enter details about their farm, stock, and machinery in order to electronically keep track of all of the information. I have created the forms and done all the coding for the data entry, and now what I would like to do is allow the user to delete a single record from the .dat file. I am able to delete it from the LstBox (using a "Delete Entry" btn coded simply with
lstvehicles.Items.RemoveAt(lstvehicles.SelectedIndex)
(using the vehicles section for examples)), but I am unsure of how to delete it from the .dat file as well, to prevent it reloading upon data change / program reload. Also I would like to be able to have a reminder come up on the program start up that gives a reminder to (in the vehicles instance)when a vehicles rego is due, the date being associated to a date that is entered into the same lstbox data using a datetimepicker.

I know that Deleting a specific line in a sequential text file is impossible but instead copy the needed lines and not copying the unneeded ones to an output file .. killing the old one and renaming the new one with the same.. I can't make this step...
That is my record file
Code:
Input #1, CustomerName, CustomerHomeAddress, CustomerBussAddress, CustomerTel1, CustomerMob1, CustomerID, DateRent, CarRegPin
Code:
"Josek Sam","68 West Land Street","149 Union of States","4524563","45635463","JOSKSAM1",#2009-03-02#,"MILANCGLZ2008"
"Josef Malm","142 Unions Street","64 Hamersters Street","452504","42542054","JOSFMALM2",#2009-03-06#,"MILANCGLZ2008"
"Dave Green","131 Oxford Street","96 BlueBane Route","452542452","43254345","DAVGRN3",#2009-03-07#,"MILANCGLZ2008"
I made a form that when you put your CustomerID in Text3 Box.. it access the records and make some calculations. now.. The customer will return the car.. Then his data should be deleted.. I want to know how to make that when I enter the CustomerID and press on the Command button .. It copies the other lines to a new output folder and doesn't copy these ... So it appears to be deleted using this way..

on my program i have an activation in it and in order to activate the program you need to enter a code that is stored in the settings. so i was looking through my computer and i found the programs config file. and so I opened it and i found all of the codes for the activation. I need to find out how to make the file so the user doesn't have access to it and then how to move it to a more hidden place in the C: drive.

I'm looking for a way to specify the location for the User.config file that is used for storing the My.Settings object. It appears that this is not possible. The problem for me is, I don't want to be responsible for creating several different files on the users computer that really have no use and are difficult to find and clean once an update is released. For most users, this is not a serious problem, as many will probably never update the software, and most will probably only go through a couple of updates. On my system, there are config files for every build of the application, and the same to a lesser extent will be true for my beta testers.
I can understand that MS wants to make sure that no two applications will use the same location for storing application data, but a simple [UserData] [CompanyName][ApplicationName] for storing application data will probably suffice for 99.9999 percent of the legitimate applications in the world. Bogging a user's system down with erroneous files, no matter how small, is an unnecessary drain on system resources and a potential source of problems for the user. It's bad enough that most programs leave bits and pieces of themselves all over a user's system after De-installation - this to me seems only to exaggerate this problem.
Is the only way to get around this problem to write a whole new Settings Class? Is there a way to change the location of the UserConfig file to a more friendly (and more predictable) location that I am not finding for myself? It would seem that having at least the OPTION to specify a location for the User.Config file would be OBVIOUS and easy to implement, so why did they leave this out?
