View 2 RepliesI have the following code used to enter the name of a text file and then display it in a richtextbox. This is working but I would like it so that I could take out the initial part of the filename detailing the location of the filename to simply set it to the project folder, is there any way of doing this using the App.path function?
My code is as follows:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code].....
Dim saveDiag As New SaveFileDialog[code]...
so far the file is written and saved in a very specific location but I can`t figure for the life of me how I would use SaveFileDialog to save the .txt file elsewhere also....
I have a simple program that opens up a text file and changes it and then what I want to do is save a text file when you click the "convert" button to the directory that the exe exists in e.g. "C:UsersBeaudeanDesktop--Distro--" etc. so say I have a richtextbox with the text in it I want to save and a button called "convert", when I click convert it will save it in the programs root folder with the name "main.html" and I also want it to overwrite any file with the same name.

The user will enter a folder name in the combobox1 and clicking the create folder button the folder will be created in the applications bin folder; For doing this, i did this
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If ComboBox1.Text = "" Then

Now when the user enters a file name in the combobox2 and clicks the save button(Save button is not shown in the snapshot) then a .txt file with the name entered by the user in the combobox2 will be created in the folder whose name is specified in the combobox1.

I'm new to this forum and new to programming (literally just a week or so). I'm trying to write a program that uses a combo box selection accompanied with a button that when pressed, will download a file off a website, save it to my desktop and the run itself.[code]The thing I want my code to do is to universally be able to save the file to the desktop of any windows OS a user may be using. I'm going to end up having people using XP, Vista and Win7 use this application and each of those I believe have a different root to reach the desktop. Instead of having to hard code each and every scenario, there must be an easier way, right? Can you guys help me figure out what the syntax is for getting the users windows username and desktop location so that no matter what OS they're using, the file will always be downloaded to their desktop?

Its a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
But i want it to save like this
Team 1
Team 2
Team 3
Team 4
Etc...
The code is...
Dim Save As New SaveFileDialog
Save.Filter = "Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt|ALL FILES (*.*)|*.*"

I'm trying to do the following I'm not sure if it's possible using VB.NET. I want to specify default saving point for all files type for example: In my program you choose the path "C:UsersMarkusPictures" for pictures and everytime you download pictures files from website, or using skype or any other program when Save File Dialog opens up (external one not via my program or connected to vb.net just the windows default one) then it will show "C:UsersMarkusPictures" always for .jpg .gif type of files etc...
View 2 Replieswell I want it to look like this: [Textbox] [Browse] [Start] So you click browse, find the exe file, click ok(or something like that) and then click start I also want to make it so it saves the location of the last exe file it started, so you dont have to browse for it every time you use the program.

I managed to create a folder in the my documents folder by typing the path name and the variable from which the folder must be named. So for example the folder variable1 was created. I want to save a file in that folder and i want the filename to be the date. I managed to do that as well but instead of saving the file into variable1 it is being saved into the my documents folder with filename: variable1(date).
