Retrieve MySQL Blob - Save The File To Disk
Aug 29, 2010
I have a mySQL table(IMP_SCANS) holding the file, it's name and size for every document:
scan_1 blob
description varchar
filesize int
doc_no varchar
doc_date date
I managed to insert a file to the table. Now I need to save the file to disk.
So I have the code:
Dim conn As New MySqlConnection
Dim cmd As New MySqlCommand
Dim myData As MySqlDataReader
Dim SQL As String
Dim FileSize As UInt32
Dim fs As FileStream
[CODE]............
I all works fine up to the line: myData.GetBytes(myData.GetOrdinal("scan_1"), 0, rawData, 0, filesize) Where it says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". I cannot figure out why I receive this error.

Dim filename As String = txtName.Text + ".jpg"
Dim FileSize As UInt32
Dim ImageStream As System.IO.MemoryStream[code]......

We are trying to store and retrieve datatable as blob (varbinary(max)). We convert the existing datatable into an xml file and store that xml file as a blob and while retrieving we get the blob as xml file and convert it back to datatble. It seems to be storing and retrieving the xml object but having issues while converting it back to the datatable ("End of stream - error").

I have a project where the user wants an image stored in a Blob field of a MYSql database. I have been searching for info on the net but so far have not found a good solution for this.In this case the record will already exist in the database and I will need to insert the image into the existing record based on the recordid. Is there a simple way to do this perhaps with a stored procedure and an execute statement. I have very little experience with MySql and little with storing images in a database as well. Most often I will store the images as files and use a pointer in the db record but this user wants it in the db so here we are.

its been a while since i was here... it's nice to be back... anyway, i was wondering how to upload a jpeg picture to a blob datatype field in MYSQL. i know i could just put the picture path in a varchar type field and just place the picture somewhere locally and retrieve it programatically. but my project does not require me to do so.

I want webbrowser1 to navigate to a list of URLs that will be read in from a text file. (I left that part out of the below code and just manually entered urls as examples.) What I have found is that the webbrowser1 will navigate to the urls, but it will not stay long enough to get anything from them. In this example, not even the final page loaded ends up getting saved. Can someone tell me how to halt the attempt to save webbrowser1.documenttext until it is fully loaded?

ASP.net app inserts Microsoft Windows 2007 .docx file into a row on DB2 OS/390 Blob table. A different VB.net app gets the DB2 OS/390 Blob data. VB.net app kicks off Microsoft Word to open the .docx file but then Microsoft Word pops up a message that the data is corrupted. Word will allow you to fix the data so the file can be viewed but it is extra steps and users complain.I've seen some examples where .docx can be converted to .doc but they only talk about stripping out the text. Some of our .docx have pictures in them.
