View 2 RepliesSo i created resource file New --> new file --> Native Resource Template Then added icons with custom id, like "x", "u_100", .. so i understand, what the files (in my case icons) is.. And i saved as 32-bit resource file (*.res) So i have a question, how can i use these files inside of resource file in my apps? i know how to add icons in to my app.. Me.Icon = New Icon(C:/icon.ico)
View 6 Repliesi was wondering if i could access a folder inside the Resources folder of the application?
i would make it to eliminate the use of the debug directory in storing files and to use the clickonce deployment.
im new to coding (started coding last month) so im a little stuck on how to do this, im making some emulation programs to learn coding with, and a part of it is to point the app to a .iso/.bin file and scan the data inside of the iso/bin to check if a file exists.[code]My issue is i cant find any class examples, or any information etc on how to code it so my application can see the data inside of the iso/bin instead of just see'ing the iso/bin file, so that i can then check the data inside the iso to see if the file exists etc.Im a novice still at coding so making a new class myself to look inside the iso/bin is to complex for me.
View 1 RepliesWhat is the code for opening a file from a resource (I have already placed the file there), i.e. opening an excel file or .txt file with the click of a button on a form. I can not seem to find this anywhere. I am using VB.net (Visual Studio 2010).

View 12 RepliesI have made a form that exports to xml and refer's to a xsl sheet to open into html format. Now what I want to do is build this program with these xml and xsl files in it. I also want the user to push submit and the xml inside the build opens up.
I understand the Diagnostics.Process.Start but for some reason its not referring to my xsl file its just loading all the values in order. My question to yall is how do i set a path inside my application for the xsl and xml to refer to each other.
Is it a dll i need to compile if so any guidance their. Im a beginner and am still learning.
I'm trying to open a text file that was already generated with info inside.I want to read specific lines and have them changed via user input.the lines are not consistently on the same "line".An example of the text I'm trying to read and change is:
// General (upgradeable) values the Player sees for each system
hullLevel = 1700
weaponsLevel = 1450
[code]....
The "H" in hullLevel shows up in line 26 in some of the files, line 27 in other, line 36 in some others and line 37 in yet others.
The reason this jumps around is that this comes from a file that is edited by other modders when they create a ship for a game that I'm modding.My program is designed to allow the user to visually see a representation of how strong and well equiped a ship is and change the values of each line with a slider bar.I have all the slider bar and progress bar code worked out.
I just need a way to reliably pull these lines no matter where they are from the ship file chosen by the user so that the program can edit them without disturbing the rest of the text in the file.
I have File Like "Sample.bak" and when I compress it to be "Sample.zip" I lose the file extension inside the zip file I meann when I open the compressed file I find "Sample" without any extension.
I use this code :
Dim name As String = Path.GetFileName(filePath).Replace(".Bak", "")
Dim source() As Byte = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(filePath)
Dim compressed() As Byte = ConvertToByteArray(source)
System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes(destination & name & ".Bak" & ".zip", compressed)
Or using this code :
Public Sub cmdCompressFile(ByVal FileName As String)
'Stream object that reads file contents
Dim streamObj As Stream = New StreamReader(FileName).BaseStream
[CODE]...
I need to compress the file without loosing file extension inside compressed file.
can anyone please explain to me how I get the file path to an embedded video resource file I have?Currently I know how to get this while debugging, but I am unsure how to refer to it when built.It needs to work no matter where the application files are.[code]

View 9 RepliesI have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.

This is what I am trying to do. I need to create some data inside my app and send it to another app as a file. But this 'file' should never be written to the hard drive. It will only ever exist in RAM.

View 6 RepliesI am trying to create an application that will copy files with a "*.1" extension over to another directory and change the file extension to .tif. The problem is that the *.1 files are located within zip files. Is it possible to copy files out of a zip file without having to extract it? The code I have so far is below. I have only gotten to the point to list all *.zip files found in a specific directory in a listbox. I am really looking to list all *.1 files found within all .zip files in a specific directory. Once they are all listed in the listbox, I will then chose a destination directory, copy them to the destination directory and change the files from a .1 extension to a .TIF extension.

Do you have some source code how to open a file (file browser) with file extension specific using Visual basic.net.

View 5 RepliesI am preparing a project.I buried my necessary files in the Resource folder.
Now , how can I run a file in that folder?
Right now i have a line of code, in vb, that calls a text file, like this:
Dim fileReader As String
fileReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("data5.txt")
data5.txt is a resource in my application, however the application doesn't run because it can't find data5.txt. I'm pretty sure there is another code for finding a .txt file in the resource that i'm overlooking, but i can't seem to figure it out.
Years ago when coding with VB6 and earlier, I used a file open command to create, read, and write a file that made it easy to store useful information.I believe it was binary and you wrote/read the data to a specific line in the file. When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.
View 2 RepliesI've gone through about 16 hours and two packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out. First a little background. I was using 6.0 up until 2004 when I went to prison. I'm out now, and trying to relearn the trade, using VS 2005. I'm currently porting some 6.0 code from another project, SpyCast Webcam Studio, into VB 8.0. It's disheartening, to say the least. None of the old built-in subs/functions work anymore, so I have to scour the forums to relearn each and every function.The section I'm doing now takes a snapshot from the webcam (Video API --> PictureBox --> Save as Jpeg), then upens the file to upload it to the server via HTTP POST. I've been using this code in SpyCast for years with no trouble, but I spent many hours trying to piece together the right code to open the binary file to read its contents. I pieced together two methods I found around the forums, one using FileStream() though the code I found wasn't for binary files, even though it said it was, so that code doesn't really work. Method two uses Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileOpen() and works better.
Here's the kicker. By the time I run through the rest of the rigamarole of uploading the file, by the time I read it on the webserver, it's *slightly* corrupted. It's a valid Jpeg, no errors, but the picture looks like when I use to watch the Playboy Channel when I was a kid scrambled with weird colors and whatnot. [code] Each "chunk" is basically one "line" of the file. It looks like a single LineInput() return is the text between two carriage returns. Am I correct? I tested this with a flat text file, and it looks true. However, That one input line returns the text or data with the carriage returns *stripped*! ***?!? =( Fine, I have no problem adding my own vbCrLf to each LineInput(), if I were opening text. but this's binary. A character could be Chr(10) or Chr(13), both of which are removed from the original file contents.So I could very well need to use something other than LineInput(), but I haven't found any other examples on the web using this method.
I need a code for the open file dialog that if a file is not supported then a message box appears stating the error. This is my open file dialog code. [code] The message box pops up like it is suppose to, when you click ok the open file comes back up like it is suppose to. When you put in the correct file the message box comes back up again. Also the message pops up even if the correct file is put in the open file. but if you close the file dialog the image is where it is suppose to be.I believe the code for the public sub wrongfile is what is the problem. can some one look it over and let me know what changes are needed.
