One of the features of my new Vb game is the ability to modularly add and remove in-game items. However, in order to add these items I figure their effects should be recorded in code in the text file they will be stored in.In short, I want to store code in a text file and then have it run on command
Furthermore, is there a way I could put all of the code on one line?
I have a program that dynamically generates new VB code, and needs to call that code later on. How do I get it to run code from a text file? Is there any command to extract lines from text files and run them as code?
I am triggering a stored procedure from code inside a form and I am wanting to return any TSQL errors back to the form. I have written code to do it but when I force an error in TSQL for testing, my vb.net code drops to debug mode with "SQL Exception was unhandled" error.
Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@ The character The Code End of line A @ 4gh EOL B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code. Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file separator = readline(file); while not EOF(file) do tempStr = readline(file);
I'm using Visual Basic express 2008.The application I am working on is the first major project I have ever undertook with visual basics. The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!
How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.
Dim RetVal RetVal = Shell("This is where I need the data from the .txt file to be seen", 1)
If your wondering why I don't just type in the path of the .exe, it's simple, not everyone installs World of Warcraft on the C drive.
I'm working in VB.Net w/ WPF and I need to create a DataGrid at run-time (in the code-behind) with the text in each grid cell able to wrap. I've found a lot of examples showing how to do this in the XML but I can't find anything explaining how this is done in the code-behind. I'm stuck trying to figure out how the DataGridTemplateColumn, CellTemplate, and DataTemplate all work together.
I'm trying to use a combo box to change the image in a picture box to one that's stored in an external folder. The plan is to, in code, take the part of the file's location that will be constant and concatenate the file name to the end. The file name is stored in a database.
im searching on how to change labels text color inside the code depending on my needs , for example my label's text is set to = "hello world" , can i change hello's world color to x and world's color to y?
How would I get a textbox to contain the text of a TXT file stored on the web? For example, lets say I have a website. I uploaded a TXT file to it. How would I get the text from the TXT file and display it in a TextBox?
I have a 'People' table that has CompleteName, Address, and Phone. I'm trying to look for the Name, and return the Phone number. I would like to use LIKE in the SELECT statement for the name. The code in VB is this:
Using Command As New SqlCommand("SearchPeople", MyConnection) Command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure Command.Parameters.Add("@Competename", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = Textbox1.Text
[code]....
I have another table that looks for ID number, it works great with similar code, except this particular one doesn't return anything.I've tried adding "'%" & Textbox1.Text & "%'" also in WHERE CompleteName LIKE '%' + @CompleteName + "%'So how can I search using LIKE with this? If I don't use stored procedure and using sql commandtext, it works fine.
I want to create a very simple database. form1 - ListBox1, textBox1, buttonadd, buttonremove. The item collection of the ListBox1 is stored in a txt file along with a string that will be displayed in the textbox1. the file will look like this ( like a .ini file):
I have a stored procedure to update a table, but needs a couple of values from another table.
the first two selects get the value from the table and then are used in the update statement.
The select statments:
Select @iStatusDropDownValueID = iDropDownValueID From DropDownValue Inner Join DropDownValueType On DropDownValue.iDropDownValueTypeID =
[Code].....
First, the values that are retrieved by the first two select statements are always the same. So they could be passed in by the code itself. I don't know that this will speed things up at all, just make the entire stored procedure better and easier to read.
Second, if the "Value Name" should change this store procedure will break (which is possible, but not often).
I am looking for any insight into the Best Practices for this situation.
I have 2 problems, this may sound odd but is there an easy way to store and read vba/vbs inside a database (MSSQL)? Second problem, how to create vba/vbs so i can use it to interact with my own software?
I have a text document that stores around 200 commands ,each on its own line with a value of either 0 or 1 after them. This determins if that command is ON or OFF.
I need to be able to manipulate the on/off values for 5 specific commands using a check box to say "turn this one on" if box is marked. or vice-versa.[code]...
I have no code specifically for this part of my project just saying this ahead of time.I have not used text files that are inside my project but I want to be able to open the file when I load my form and save it when I close my form.I know how to save manualy and same with opening but that defeats the purpose this has to do as much as possible on its own.All I have are code from a project I made a while back which was a notepad program.[code]however I need this to all happen on its own and it needs to install these text files with the program hence why they are in with the project there are about 30 text files that will need to be with it so if I can get help with one then I can figure the rest out.
i was just wondering if there was a way that i could compare data stored in a text file such as usernames and passwords with data input into text boxes in visual studio vb2008?
Hi,in my application i have to read from an excel files and check the value of every cell i'm using an OleDb connection to open it and reading but i have this issue if some of the cells in the excel sheet is having this warning when i try to read it returns DBNull .knowing that i can not force the user for not having this warning ...i have to solve this within my code .
I am making a simple vending machine and I need to store the amount of drinks bought and money stored in a text file. When the vending machine opens it needs to load from there.
I'm trying to open a text file that was already generated with info inside.I want to read specific lines and have them changed via user input.the lines are not consistently on the same "line".An example of the text I'm trying to read and change is:
// General (upgradeable) values the Player sees for each system hullLevel = 1700 weaponsLevel = 1450
[code]....
The "H" in hullLevel shows up in line 26 in some of the files, line 27 in other, line 36 in some others and line 37 in yet others.
The reason this jumps around is that this comes from a file that is edited by other modders when they create a ship for a game that I'm modding. My program is designed to allow the user to visually see a representation of how strong and well equiped a ship is and change the values of each line with a slider bar.I have all the slider bar and progress bar code worked out.
I just need a way to reliably pull these lines no matter where they are from the ship file chosen by the user so that the program can edit them without disturbing the rest of the text in the file.
Im wonder how i can create a textfile from the text inside in the textbox. I have already begun with the code, but i get an error.
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click Dim output As String = Nothing output = TextBox2.Text output = GetFileContents("C: est.txt") End Sub
How would you structure a large project with most of the business logic already inside stored procedures? We are moving from classic ASP to ASP.NET (VB) and pretty much all the business logic is inside stored procedures.Getting the logic out of there is pretty much impossible since my boss doesn't want to (too expensive, takes too long, no "real" added value).I was thinking about making a presentation layer made of aspx pages, a business logic / data access layer that would basically get the data and interact with the existing stored procedures and a business entities layer that would be made of classes (for entities and collections) containing the information to interact between those two layers. The reason I wanted to make those layers was to be able to reuse most of the code without duplicating it.
I would like to encrypt login password and store it inside a text file. But I have no idea how to encrypt it. Can someone show me an example of code so that i can get an idea of how to go about it ?
Not sure if there is a better way to do this but this isn't working. Just trying to run a batch command "query session" and put it into a text file using "> sessions.txt". When I run this command in a command prompt it works fine and spits the output to the text. I've tried just making the batch file in the same folder and executing that with Process.Start, still empty text file. Tried modifying the loop and no go also
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Dim counter As Integer = 0
I am here by to ask help on enhancing messageboxs. How is the way to Display a picture(like a JPG file) inside a messagebox along with text when a button is clicked?

There is a .Net executable (with a group of DLL's etc) that up to 100 people will be using simulatiously during the course of the day. Is it still acceptable/good practice to have all the users just have a shortcut to the network path for this executable? Or would it be better to copy the .exe, .dll's, etc locally to each users machine?
What I'm wanting to do is gonna sound pretty strange. I play a game called Wonderland Online. Usually while playing, I will have between 3-4 instances of the game going at the same time, each instance running a different character. Also, I will have open another program that I wrote that helps me figure out what I need to manufacture a certain item in the game. The running game is an 800x600 window, and I have all 5 of these windows open at once, where I am constantly moving things around, minimizing and maximizing.I want to create a app that would basically be a frame for the game. Creating the frame would not be hard, but this is the first time I have tried to get an external EXE to basically run inside of my program. Is this even possible? And if so, I would imagine I could run multiple EXEs and flip between them inside my frame. I could integrate my manufacturing program into the frame, as well as control which instance of the game is visible inside the frame.
