Transferring An Image With File Name Stored In A Database To Code
May 30, 2011
I'm trying to use a combo box to change the image in a picture box to one that's stored in an external folder. The plan is to, in code, take the part of the file's location that will be constant and concatenate the file name to the end. The file name is stored in a database.

I have pictures of each employee stored in SQL database with Image database.
Select pic from empimages where emp_ID=10
give the picture of that employee in binary format.
How do I create a physical jpeg in C:images folder based on the above query in vb.net.

Dim fs As New FileStream("C:Womanizer2.m4a", FileMode.Create)
Dim writer As New BinaryWriter(fs)
Dim reader As New StreamReader(networkStream)
'Dim send As [Byte]() = reader.ReadBytes(fs.Length)
[code]....
These are two code blocks from the two programs I have wrote. The first is the server program that receives a connection and writes the file to disk. The second is the Client program that sends the file to the server to be written to disk.As it is - it hangs. I did once get it to write to the disk - but the file was twice the size of the original. what objects to use for transferring a file over a TCP IP network connection with TCPClient and TCPListener.

The code for this is:
'IMAGE HANDLING
Dim bytes() As Byte = DS.Tables("Location").Rows(0).Item(4)
Dim ProductImage As Image = Image.FromStream(New System.IO.MemoryStream(bytes))
pic_ProductImageDisplay.Image = ProductImage
pic_ProductImageDisplay.Load()
The error occurs line 3 stating "ArgumentException was unhandled: Parameter is not valid."

1. Since the plate number will be stored directly into the database after being converted from the image. However, due to the conversion process of the image into text takes few seconds, it is not able to be stored into the database... May i know is there any code that can solve it? Maybe can delay the process of storing the plate number?
2. Why during running my VB, when i click on the listbox, sometimes it will immediately pop up a dialog box to ask for video source, but sometimes not? How can i solve it?

I hoping to find a current and simple way to do this. I'm using VWD Express 2008 and SQL Express 2008.I'm able to get the client's path to the image file using an asp:FileUpload control on the web form.
How do I upload the client's image file and display it in the web form's image control?How do I save it to the sqlserver? The image table is already set up with a "Image" data type column. Can the image be saved to the database as simply as other data types?

I'm using Visual Basic express 2008.The application I am working on is the first major project I have ever undertook with visual basics. The application is a launcher for a private server for world of warcraft.I have a menu bar that pulls the file path of the wow.exe and puts it in a hidden textbox, I then have another option that saves this text to c:wowexe.txt. All of this works GREAT!
How can I read the .txt file to end and return the information stored in the .txt file to this line of code.
Dim RetVal
RetVal = Shell("This is where I need the data from the .txt file to be seen", 1)
If your wondering why I don't just type in the path of the .exe, it's simple, not everyone installs World of Warcraft on the C drive.

I'm trying to zip a file that is stored on SQL Server as a blob image field and when downloading the zip file it says the file is corrupted.. or the file will open but contains some crazy characters. I've tried WinRAR and 7zip and no luck. I checked out [URL] and tried to kind of combine the browser attachment code and the memorystream/byte array code and no luck.
Here is my code snippet:
Try
BinData = DirectCast(dt.Rows(0)("ImageField"), Byte())
Catch ex As Exception
End Try
Dim blen As Integer = BinData.Length

I already know how to call insert, update, delete & select procedures in DataSet.xsd window. And I also know how to call queries by table adapters. But I just found out that its not possible to call all functions by queries (such as insert). It works when I test the query but when I try to add it, it says "Failed to get schema for this query". So I built a few stored procedures which do many functions (such as transaction, insert, update etc...). But I am unable to use these stored procedures in VB form. I found some tutorials mentioning that it can be done by defining connections and some other stuffs with which I don't want this to be. I want to call these procedures by writing code in VB code editor window with DataSets, TableAdapters, BindingSource etc...

One of the features of my new Vb game is the ability to modularly add and remove in-game items. However, in order to add these items I figure their effects should be recorded in code in the text file they will be stored in.In short, I want to store code in a text file and then have it run on command
Furthermore, is there a way I could put all of the code on one line?

I am new to ADO.Net and I mistakenly using the dataset as how we use recordsets in ADO., I know that it is possible to create a Datatable which will only reside in the memory and hold data. What I need to create is like this.
1. Create Datatable.
2. Fill it with sample data at least 3 lines.
3. Transfer the data from datatable to database (access,sqlsrvr etc).

I connected to the Informix server using RazorSQL, created a stored procedure and tested it, getting the expected answer, so the procedure exists in the database in some form.
I then run the following code:
If ConnectToInformix() Then
Dim cmd As New IfxCommand("dc_routeHasOutstandingQuantity", conn)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
[Code]....
This error does not occur when calling the stored procedure from a live SQL connection.

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@
The character The Code End of line
A @ 4gh EOL
B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code.Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file
separator = readline(file);
while not EOF(file) do
tempStr = readline(file);

I am not sure the best way to go about doing this.

I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?

I have developed some software(vb.net) that records fees paid by the students. The purpose is that the database should be stored in a server, which can be accessed from any stations linked with it.This is working fine with a network of 10 computers. I need to publish it over the net so people could do this job logging in over internet. Database (access database) should be stored on a web based server.
