Aug 22, 2011I have a form to display in textboxes text which has been read in from a txt file. The data can contain accented characters from European languages (French, Spanish etc.) but when these occur the display is corrupted. How do I configure VB.NET to handle these characters (I am assuming there is some setting to do this rather than having to write code to process all input)?

Mar 15, 2011I have a tool which reads dBase files and uploads the contents to SQL Server, part of a system to import shapefiles. It works but now we have a requirement to import files that include non-English characters (Norwegian in this case, could be other languages later) and they're being corrupted. The dBase files are being read using an OleDbDataAdapter. Stepping through the code I can see that the text is wrong as it is read in. I'm assuming it's something to do with code pages or Unicode but I have no idea how to fix it.A dBase Reader application tells me the DBFs are in code page 1252 - I don't know if this is correct. My upload tool runs on Win7 with English (UK) regional settings.[code]Is there a way to tell OleDbDataAdapter what code page to use or a better way to read dBase files from VB.Net?

May 26, 2011I am using third party tool "gridlookupedit" of DevXpress in my application. I have loaded the gridlookupedit control on the key Down event of it. Now if i type a character "A" the dropdown gets loaded with all values starting with "A". Now a step ahead i want to load the GridLookUpEdit only after two characters. for rg: the control must load values only when user types any two characters. If user types "A" it should not load. if user types "Ab" then the control should be loaded by the values starting with "Ab".

Dec 1, 2011When I typed Private Sub cmdAbc_(Click) and pressed Enter key the first 12 characters erase leaving cmdAcc_(Click) and the cursor on the next line. Then pressing the up arrow or space bar restores the erased characters. This problem makes coding a program impossible. Programs I created before the problem arose do run successfly, but the code for those programs displays with missing characters.

Apr 30, 2009I'm facing a major problem with a Deployment Project I created to install one of my applications.I am using the ENGLISH IDE of the Visual Studio 2008 - even though my end users will have German environments. This is why I set the

Property in the Deployment Project's Properties. The UI of the generated setup is German, so all's fine there. However, the setup installs the ENGLISH .Net Framework. I have not found any way around this.The problem are at least twofold:
1. An English Framework on a German PC might cause instabilities.
2. It's a big flaw to see UI inconsistencies (i.e. the UI and Setup of the application is German while the NET Framework shows certain elements in English, e.g. the DisplayName property of cultures)how can I get the project to install the localized .NET Framework?

VS 2010 - Extracting Text - Convert The English Text Shown In Screen To Malayalam
Sep 6, 2010I'm trying to create a small program, which I think will be helpful to others(in here). My aim is to convert the English text shown in screen to Malayalam. English-to-Malayalam conversion is not a problem. But the problem is, how to extract the text from the screen. In most of the converter/translator, the text needs to be copied or written down in the translator tool. But my program will cut off that part. That is, simply move the program window (having a rectangle hollow portion) to the English word that needs to be converted. And upon pressing a button (or autodetect), the English word is converted to Malayalam.
So, my question is how to extract the English text(or words) from the screen (which is seen through the hollow portion of the window.

Jun 15, 2012I want to simulate a way to "force" the ASC function to use the english codepage, even on a system having the "language for non-unicode" different than English.[code]On a system having "language for non-unicode" set as English, currently the result is 140..On a system having "language for non-unicode" set as Slovakian, currently the result is 79..The twist is I CANNOT user AscW (for reasons I cannot disclose)In the particular example above I would need for the code to always return 140.If there's a way to force the whole program to use the english code page I could work with that as well.[code]
