.net - De-serializing A Space Delimited String Into A Generic List?

I have an xml file with elements that look like this (abbreviated for clarity):
<post id="1" tags="tag1 tag2 tag3 tag4" />
I want to map this to the following class using Xml Deserialization, but I can't find a way to map the tags attribute to an actual List(Of String).
<Serializable()> _
<XmlRootAttribute("post")> _
Public Class Post

Is there any way to override the default Deserialization?

I have a Generic.List(Of ImportedVehicle) - ImportedVehicle being a simple class as below.There is an enum property which is marked as public.When I serialize to XML using an XMLSerializer, the enum's value is just set to it's default value (which is NotAllocated) and doesn't actually represent the value that is set in code.[code]

I am having some trouble including tab and space delimiters in my multiple delimiter code (see code below). It seems I can not just add the <vbtab> and <vbCrLf> codes into my delimiters list so I tried to replace them beforehand with a Clean String Function (also see code below) but it didn't seem to work. Ultimately, I would like to add any delimited text file to my datagridview.
The code below is working fine except for tabs and spaces (including next-to-each-other separators) I am using Visual Basics Express 2008.[code...]

I am trying to open a text delimited database using the jet.OLEDB.4.0 driver. My connection string is as shown here:

I have read that you either need to alter the registry, or to add a schema.ini file containing information about the delimiter in order to recognize the delimiter. My question is if there is any way to do this without altering the registry or adding a schema.ini file, as both of these are unfortunately not an option. The only solution I currently see is to split each row, is this the only way out.

i'm currently a student in a local polytechnic school, i was tasked to create a program that consisted in 3 parts which will bind together once it is done.at the moment, i have done the first part which is embedding video player into VB.now for the second part is that i'm stuck with, i need my VB to "read a text file which is space delimited and write into a access database" now my program is stuck at this and i do not know how to continue. i have been looking at alot of website for guide and codes but non are working.

I have the follow code in my program where I hit a SQLCe database to append the results into a list. That part works, but instead of exiting the function 'QueryDB' it goes to the else statement and runs the function again, which will return a null value. I designed it this way becuase I wanted to check to make sure the database is open before I try to execute the SQL statement, and if it's not open, call the method to open it and run through the function again.

I have a generic List(Of Customer). The customer class has a name, address, and phone number properties. I also have a property of another class that accepts a customer name array. I am able to do this by doing the following:

I'm writing a program that reads a directory of xml files (not well-formed), parses the xml, and dumps the data into an Excel Workbook.The file contents are similar in that they have many common xml nodes/attributes.Some files have additional nodes/attributes.The xml in these files represent configuration settings for a Web Application, one file per user.The expected output is a worksheet with a column for each node/attribute combination and a row of node/attribute values for each user.I'm just about finished with the program, but I've run into a bit of a snag.As the final step in the process, I need to loop through a generic list of array objects (that represent a user row) and send the array elements to Excel.I don't know the correct syntax to get the array objects out of the list and have been unable to find sample code specific to generic lists of array objects.[code]

I am trying to create a list of a generic type in vb.net 2.0 framework.
This is the generic type definition:
Public Class GenericParamMap(Of T)
Public Sub New(ByVal pParamName As String, ByVal pPropValue As T)
mParamName = pParamName

The compiler does not allow a "T" in the method's parameter because it's not defined, but I'm not sure how or where to define it. I thought it was okay to have a generic method definition.

I need a regular expression that can validate that a string is an alphanumeric comma delimited string.
Examples:
123, 4A67, GGG, 767 would be valid.
12333, 78787&*, GH778 would be invalid
fghkjhfdg8797< would be invalid
This is what I have so far, but isn't quite right: ^(?=.*[a-zA-Z0-9][,]).*$

I'm looping all the properties in an object via reflection:

how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?
(VB.NET 2005 with .Net 2.0)

What would be the fastest way to sort a list that contains a list of objects, based upon another list? An example follows:Say I have multiple lists of employees. Each individual list has a common property value, say "Department". So I have a list of employees, in one list they all have the department string value of "Sales". In another list all the objects have a department value of "Finance". These lists of employees are then contained in a list which holds them all.
I have a second list, which should drives the sort order of the employee lists. The second list simply contains a list of strings like, "Finance", "Sales", "IT" and so on. I'd like my lists of customers to be sorted in the order of "Finance", "Sales", etc.I'm using VB.NET in .NET 2.0

I'm trying to Load data from a Text file, which is "," Delimited into 6 List Boxes.. Want a FileOpenDialog Box so that the user Can chose which Office Id txt File they wont to load into the List Boxes.How it works is;
-The user Enters an Office ID (e.g HH33)
-The user fills out the rest of the program, the data is then generated into the 6 list Boxes
-User then clicks Save to File button.
-The program creates a Text file with the name coming from the Office Id, so if the user enters HH33, the text file is created with name HH33.txt.
-All Data entered by the user under the office name HH33 will be added to the Text File..[code]

I get an error: There is an error in XML document (20, 3).Now I have found out that this is because I have 2 root elements and 2 xml declerations. When I save the xml for the button and te xml for the label in 2 different files, I have no problem. However I have no idea how to go about saving the xml for both of them in the same file and deserializing it back.

I have the design view started but not finished - but I am not sure how to do it.I am new to VB and dont really know how to do much... I want to make it have a list of space craft. It will be 2 main categories... Jump Ships / Drop Ships. Jump Ships will need to be a random number of them pulled from the list (1+ jump ships) but each one has a number of Drop Ships it can carry. Drop Ships will need to be less than or equal to the number of slots on the combined jump ships. So if it pulls up 1 jump ship that jump ship can carry 1-9 drop ships and then it needs to randomly list that many drop ships from the list of drop ships. Then each drop ship can carry certain types of military units - lets call them A, V, M, I.When it makes the list I would like it to pull a random jumpship (preferably 1-3 from the list), then it needs to check how many dropships that jump ship (or group) can carry and randomly select that many drop ships from the list of drop ships. Then when it has those pulled it needs to add up how many units of I,M,V,A they can carry and post those to either a label or whatever. So right now I have a menu strip which will have exit/info, I have a label and text box to name the unit and then I have a button that will be used in order to generate the unit. I want to use a listbox in order to put the list and have it organized as Jump ships and then drop ships.
Can someone point me in the direction of what way would be best to make the randomness, how best to store the info (it would be nice to be able to add new ships to the lists), and just in general the best way to begin the project? I have a label with the text "Name your unit: " and a textbox (textbox1) which is there for the user to put the name of their unit in, and then I have a button I will use to generate the results. My current thought is to use a list array (not sure that is what it is called) to randomly grab ships (but I do not know how to use the # of drop ships to add to it or anything)..

I want to pass a comma delemited list of values as a parameter to a query I'm building using the designer in Visual Studio 2008 based on some strongly typed DAL tutorials I was going through. The query is going against a DB2 database. Here's what I want to do:
select * from prices where customer in(?)
It works fine win I pass in 123456 as ?But fails when I pass in '123456' (it is a char field so I don't know why this doesn't work; it must be adding these behind the scenes) or 123456, 123457 or '123456', '123457' I'm adding this page to a portal where all the data access is being done based on the DAL designer model with a BLL that calls it so I wanted to do it this way for consistency.
