.net - Global RegEx Replace Function To Create HTML From Square Brackets?
Nov 30, 2011
I have some existing code that looks something like this:
[tag:cb cbid="12345" cbwidth="200" cbclassname="calloutbox" cbposition="left"] Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
[tag:cb cbid="123" cbwidth="200" cbclass="calloutbox2" cbposition="left"] Suspendisse eleifend enim a magna pretium porttitor.
I need to write a VB .Net global function that will match these [tag:cb] and take the optional parameters and rewrite the string with Html tags.
<div id="12345" width="200" class="calloutbox" position="left">content (based on id)</div>

I have a long string of HTML code that contains several quotes around objects in the string. I have a Regex.Replace() function to change the "img src" tag, due to the way its stored in a database.
Here is my string: <p><strong><u><font color="#cc0099">RICH TEXT BOLD UNDERLINE. PICTURE TO APPEAR BELOW</font></u></strong></p><p><strong><u><font color="#cc0099"/></u></strong></p><p><img src="/inlineimages/WorkOrder/6/1245981403232.jpg"/> </p><p /><p>W00T!</p>
[Code].....
Notice how the "<font color=" has single quotes around its value, and "<img src=" has single quotes, with a double quote jammed in between?
Also, is there an automated way to go from my initial string, to the "Dim input As String" I created? I had to manually type that out, editing the quotes just to try and make it work.

I have a csv that I need to parse into a gridview in vb.net. If I do SELECT *, I get the data without issue. However, I am in a situation where I need to reference the actual column names. And problem is, I have no control over the app that generates the csv, and they make the column names enclosed in square brackets.
How the heck can I do something like this:
Dim cmdSelect As New OleDbCommand(SELECT "[name], [height] FROM myTable")
so I get a return of data?
So, in an effort to be perfectly clear: I have an app that creates a csv with the column headers [name] and [height] in a table called myTable, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to return [name] and [height] specifically.

I am trying to perform calculations on Regex substrings. I would like to do something like (see $2)
lblResult.Text = reg_exp.Replace(txtInput.Text, "$1" & "$2" * 0.039 & "$3" & "$4" & "$5")
I can only do this like:
For Each RxMatch In reg_exp.Matches(Me.txtInput.Text)
Me.lblResult.Text = Me.lblResult.Text & _
RxMatch.Groups.Item(1).ToString & _
Math.Round(CDbl(RxMatch.Groups.Item(2).ToString) * 0.03937, 4) & _

Dim lStatementText As String
Dim lStatementString As New System.Text.StringBuilder
lStatementString.Append(RndRes.Forms.txt_request)
lStatementString.Append(" ")
lStatementString.Append("<b><a>")

Where Request.ID, Request.Description and also RndRes.Forms.txt_* are all strings. I want to display the string I build up here in a Infragistics FormattedLinkLabel. The problem is that if any of the strigs from the Request class contains a HTML character, the label is not displayed properly and the HTML encoding is broken.I need to find a function that masks the HTML codes.

I'm sure this is simple and I'll probably be embarrassed to have this question in my profile but I can't seem to get this Regex correct.
I'm tring to extract just the digits from the last group of the following string:
Properties[1].Securitymeasures[14].AdditionalSecurityType
so I want to have a regex that will return 14
The Regex I have come up with is:
[(d)+]
However - the match is returning "[14]" - including the brackets and I do not understand why. I have surrounded the d with parenthesis which should mean that this is the data I want to capture.

I am trying to build an application which does the following :
1) write some text in a richtextbox
2) when user clicks a button, the app will replace the text with another text in {} braces.
what I want is that the next time, the regex searches for any text it should exclude those which are present in {}. for eg : my world is good world and a happy world and will be a better world for everyone. first pass - change word "world"

I am having an issue where I am using regex.Replace to replace part of a string. The basic idea is that I want to capture the beginning of the string then replace the end of the string with a value from code. For an example pretend I have a string that says "Test Number " followed by number and I want to increment that number. I capture the "Test Number " but when I try to concatenate that capture with the new number it treats the capture ($1) as a literal and replaces the entire string with $1[new number].
[code]...
This will output "We are on Test Number 2", as expected. how I can use a variable in the replacement string portion of the Regex.Replace when including a captured group?

I am using vb.net to parse my own basic scripting language, sample below. I am a bit stuck trying to deal with the 2 separate types of nested brackets.
Assuming name = Sam
Assuming timeFormat = hh:mm:ss
Assuming time() is a function that takes a format string but
has a default value and returns a string.
[code]....
I could in theory change the syntax of the script completely but I would rather not. It is designed like this to enable strings without quotes because it will be included in an XML file and quotes in that context were getting messy and very prone to errors and readability issues. If this fails I could redesign using something other than quotes to mark out strings but I would rather use this method.
Preferably, unless there is some other way I am not aware of, I would like to do this using regex. I am aware that the standard regex is not really capable of this but I believe this is possible using MatchEvaluators in vb.net and some form of recursion based replacing. However I have not been able to get my head around it for the last day or so, possibly because it is hugely difficult, possibly because I am ill, or possibly because I am plain thick. I do have the following regex for parts of it.
Detecting the parentheses: (w*?)((.*?))(?=[^(+)]*((|$))
Detecting the square brackets: [[(.*?)]](?=[^[+]]*([[|$))

The following code is visual basic, .NET, ASP... all of the above? what these two "Regex.Replace" functions/methods will leave me with when "strCookies" is equal to the block of text below the two Regex.Replace functions? I believe the idea is simply to capture the "sessionid" code and then the "cadata" code with or without the title/key of "sessionid" and "cadata". Ultimatly I'm trying to do the equivelent in php...the problem is I'm trying to deduce what I need to actually have exactly in the end based on this code. Hope that makes sense.

I am trying to think of a regex replace to replace double quotes with nothing. Example:
hello("hi there") would become hello(hi there)
"hi" would become hi
"example "3" would become example "3
-edit Maybe an easier way to explain this is, replace all " that do not have a backslash before them.

I am trying to filter out all unwanted characters from a string. All I want in the string is letters A-Z, numbers 0-9 as well as comma (,) plus (+) and quotes (").I figured how to do the letters and numbers, but the 3 special characters are giving me a problem. I also tried with the Chr(34) equivelant for the " sign, but no luck, as and " or , messes up the way the code is read. Heres what I have so far, but it only works for A-Z and 0-9:
STR = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(STR, "[^A-Z, 0-9, Chr(43) ]", "")

What I need is I what to get all information within the parenthesis of Sin(). For example, I have created one one textbox in my user interface. I wanted users to enter some trigonometric expresiions like " sin(90+(25+25))". For that I want all the information present with in the parenthesis of sin().
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button18_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button18.Click
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim j As Integer = 0
Dim x As Integer = TextBox1.Text.IndexOf("sin", i)

I tried above code to get the string within the parenthesis of sin() but I am not able to get the answer.

I am trying save a value from an input tag in some HTML source code. The tag looks like so:
<input name="user_status" value="3" />
I have the page source in a variable (pageSourceCode), and need to work out some regex to get the value (3 in this example). I have this so far: [Code] Which works fine most of the time, however this code is used to process source code from multiple sites (that use the same platform), and sometimes there are other attributes included in the input tag, or they are in a different order, eg:
<input class="someclass" type="hidden" value="3" name="user_status" />
I just dont understand regex enough to cope with these situations.

I'm designing a 3 x 3 Magic Square, where the 3 x 3 tables are made of up three adjacent list boxes. Upon starting the program, the 3 x 3 square consists only of the character "?" to represent a variable that has yet to be defined. The user will input through text boxes and button presses the characters 1 to 9, replacing the highlighted undefined "?' with the desired number. I'm required to include a Function procedure that can, at any time scan the 3x3 table and return an integer value of -1 if an undefined character "?" is present, a value of 0 if the rows, columns and diagonals do not sum to the same value, or the sum common to all rows columns and diagonals.
To start with I defined a 2D array and undefined.
Dim mSquare(2,2) As String
Dim undefined As String = "?"
Then I used a Sub to set the 3x3 table as undefined which I did not show to save space. Next I used a Sub to update the highlighted characters, allowing only one list box to be selected at a time and which I hope also assigns the the values to the array as they are updated. I removed parts of the code so this post isn't too big.
If lstCol2.SelectedIndex = -1 And lstCol3.SelectedIndex = -1 Then
lstCol1.Items(lstCol1.SelectedIndex) = input
txtInput.Text = ""
End If
For i As Integer = 0 To 2
[Code] .....
What I'm stuck on is the Function design. I'm trying to design something to scan the array, and give back an integer depending on the results, which are to return an integer value of -1 if an undefined character "?" is present, a value of 0 if the rows, columns and diagonals do not sum to the same value, or the sum common to all rows columns and diagonals.
I'm currently trying
Function checkSquare(ByRef mSquare As String) As String
For i As Integer = 0 To 2
[Code] .....
At the moment I keep getting the error "Public Readonly Default Property Chars(index As Integer) As Char". I keep getting an error like this even using a single variable and defining each j individually, and I'm wondering if its possible to pass arrays to functions or do I need to do something else. Is what I'm trying to do even possible? I did a longer method in which I just check all the entries individually but I'm hoping there is a more efficient way. Its my plan B for now.

it seems that adding for example a button Dim myButton as New Button and then addHandler to mySub("lol", 255) is not possible. Where mySub is Shared Sub MySub(byRef myString as string, myInteger as Integer)
So: addHandler myButton.click, addressOf mySub("lol", 255) - returns an error saying it does not work with parentheses or whatever. I somehow see why this might not be possible, so I'm looking for a work-around on this problem.
