.net - Simple Linq To List(of T)

I trying to do what seems to be a simple thing but I'm having problems. The answers I find aren't working. I'm still getting casting exceptions:

Dim query = (From l In dePhl.cv_phil Where l.batch = strMmddyyyy
Select l.zipfile.Distinct)
Dim objFileList As List(Of String) = query.ToList() 'Error

.net - VerificationException Operation Could Destabilize The Runtime On Simple LINQ Query

Jun 11, 2009

The code below works fine on my development PC, but when I deployed the app, it crashes.

Here is the lines of code that are relvant

Private TdsTypesList As List(Of TDS_Type)
...
TdsTypesList = (From tt In db.TDS_Types Select tt).ToList

[Code].....

I have many queries that are using linq, and none of them throw any errors. The set of data is not very large either, less that 100 rows. I dont know if I have any other queries that do not have where statements in them that work.

Running .net 3.5 without sp1 on the client machine, although I am running sp1 on my development PC. looking for a solution that doesn't require sp1 to be installed.

Edit Code breaks on the second line when remote debugging.

I looked over [URL] and tried the following, with the same error.

TdsTypesList = tl.OfType(Of TDS_Type)().ToList

I finally found a dirty workaround. Instead of pulling all of columns from that table, I was able to re-write the query to omit 1 column. This returns an object of anonymous type, and I can use that object. I still would like to know what causes this though.

However, I don't understand how to create a XML file, add items, remove items, edit items, and most of all: read items from a XML file.

VS 2008 - Using LINQ To Execute A Simple "delete From Employees Where EmployeeID = 1"?

Jul 13, 2010

I am rewriting an old app that uses Linq. One part intrigued me...The code get the ID of a row from a datagridview.Then the code executes a LINQ that in the where-part make a selection based on the ID (which is the PK) to return a single object using .Take(1).SingleOrDefault Then this object is added to the dbcontext.Employees.DeleteOnSubmit() method and finally the Submitchanges is executed...I added a watch to the Log property of the datacontext, and lo and behold, when the delete query is executed, it uses ALL properties of the object in its where query. It should use the EmployeeID only since its the PK.

My question is, is it impossible using LINQ to execute a simple "delete from employees where employeeID = 1" That is basically what the above LINQ code does. But I dont want to to excute a select statement first, and I dont want it to delete by all columns, only by the id column, which an indexed PK.Any LINQ gurus wanna share some insight on this?

Using Linq With A List(of T)

May 11, 2011

I am trying to use linq to query a List(of T) object, but when i type in my linq statement it comes back with the following error: Error57Expression of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of BreakoutData)' is not queryable. Make sure you are not missing an assembly reference and/or namespace import for the LINQ provider.D:\Code\OLGA35\BreakoutByBusinessUnit.aspx17025D:\Code\OLGA35\

I have looked at my web.config and I have the imports:

<assemblies>
<add assembly="System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral,

[CODE]...

I have put in several imports at the top of my page, but that hasn't helped

<%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" %>

<%@ Import Namespace="System.Collections.Generic" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Core" %>

[CODE]...

I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Here is the code that is relevant:

Dim ListCollection As List(Of List(Of BreakoutData))
Dim GroupList As List(Of String)
Dim DataList As List(Of BreakoutData)

[CODE]...

Everything i've found on google just says to add in the System.Core, System.Data.Linq references, but as far as I can tell it all is setup correctly

.net - Linq : Get Words From List?

Jun 8, 2011

I'm using a program see here: Visual Basic Regular Expression Question. I enter letters and the program returns all possible combinations from list. I want change this line of code...

Dim result = fruits.Where(Function(fruit) Not fruit.Except(letters).Any())

If I have this list:

Dim fruit as List(Of string) from {"apple","orange","pear","banana"}

And I input "p a p l e r" then it would return "apple" and "pear", but if I enter "a p l e r" then it would return just "pear". The idea is to return all words, which can be made of entered letters without duplicating any single letter. How to optimize this Linq code?

.net - Linq Query To List?

Sep 2, 2011

Dim query = From o In myContainer.MyObjects Select o.MyStringProperty Distinct
Dim myProperties As List(Of String) = query.ToList????? 'no way!!!'
"query" type is IEnumerable(Of String)

I tried to use the query directly as a DataSource of a (infragistic) combobox, but it throws me NullReferenceException, so I decided to convert it to a listof strings, to be a more "classical" datasource.

Dim values As List(Of String) = query.AsQueryable().ToList()
does not work either: Value of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of System.Linq.IQueryable(Of String))' cannot be converted to 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of String)'.

I am sure my problem is simple however i have a hard time solving it. I am trying to grab data with the linq query and then return it as list to bind to the Repeater.I have the following function:

[Code]...

And it would work fine. However if I try to use ToList() in VB.NET i am getting error that it cannot convert it from ling to sql List to the generic list. How do i do this convertion in VB.NET ? or maybe there is another way ?

I am decent when it comes to C# however somewhat lost with the VB.NET syntax.
