Say I have this in VB.NET:

If myVariable is "a", control will go into the first case statement. Now let's say if myVariable = "a", but inside a's case block, I find that executeB is true, is it then possible to jump to the second case?

View 6 RepliesI am not sure what to do with the following. The code below reads from a massive list of phrases, checks for a certain conditions and if all succeed a) adds the output to the new_question list b) keeps the value of the variable incremental to "level_0".
If the fourth "if statement" fails, the code changes the value of the variable incremental to "level_1" and jumps to a second case statement. The problem is that for certain input the code fails form the "third if statement" and execution refuses to jump to "level_1" (bacause the fourth "if-statement" must fail as well). I tried moving the "incremental variable" between the third and the fourth "and if" but since the code reads from a list of phrases even if it returns true, execution jumps to level_1 (as some phrases fail from the third "if statement"). I've always found the switch statement in C#, with dropthrough and consequentrequirements for a break in each case, to be a bit unwieldy. Is there any reason they haven't enhanced the switch command to allow these situations? W
EDIT AFTER CLOSE: I'm surprised this was closed, really. With the number of extension methods and helper classes I've found online for other things, I thought an enhanced 'case' would be a good chance. I somewhat hoped a luminary such as Jon Skeet may have commented on the background reasoning, rather than the individuals below who've obviously thought 'religious debate' as soon as more than one language is mentioned.
When my form loads it adds some handles (using AddHandler) to a sub (showStatus). What this sub does is checks which control activated the sub (using sender.Equals) and displays text in the status label (status) accordingly.For this I use an If...Then statement for each possibility. There are many possibilities and my code get cluttered. Is there a way to do the same thing with a Select...Case statement. I have a month and a year dropdownlist which give me the following string 01/2012 The date format in my db is "2012-01-01 00:00:00" but when I select an individual date and put it in a message box it converts to "01/01/2012"

I am trying to read data from an excel sheet but there is an exception saying that no value given for one or more required parameters which I don't understand. Here is my code upto where the error is pointing to:

The exception points to that last line MyCommand.Fill(DtSet) which shows me that there is a problem with my select statement. Previously my code reads the data and displays it without the where clause in the select but when I added the where statement so that it can only read data from rows where the column I has a value equal to 176, it instead gives an exception that shows that some required parameter is missing a value?
I just replaced a different segment of code with the select case statement and it works fine. However I don't understand what the dim is for after you do "Select case [variable name here]"

I am a noob and I am trying to make a simple resistance calculator for practice. I'm working through a programming project, which should be quite easy but im stuck right at the start (relatively new to VB). I have a textbox (named textbox1) and a checkbox next to it. I want the checkbox to be ticked (.checked) when ever the value in the textbox is between 1 and 100, the checkbox to not be ticked when theres nothing in there, and for it not to be ticked when the value is < 1 and > 100. Figured a case statement would be the easiest. (this piece of code is just a validation check, basically in the real thing the user would have to enter in a value between 1 and a given number, and need to tell the user if that value is valid).

But what happens is, if I enter in the value 1 in the textbox, the checkbox becomes ticked, as it should. It tick with any values between 2 and 99 (any number not starting with 1) but the checkbox becomes ticked again when the value is 100. For any other range, say 1 to 70, the checkbox would be ticked if the value in the textbox is 1 to 7, or any number starting with 1 or 7, but not 8 or 9, or any number starting with 8 or 9.
