.net - Handle Null Nested Objects In RDLC Report That Is Bound To Custom Assembly Object Datasource?

I have an RDLC report that I am rendering directly to the Response Stream as PDF (rather than using the ReportViewer). In the code that renders the report, it's DataSource is bound to a List(Of ClassA) objects defined in a custom assembly. This seems to work for the most part. My problem is that I can't seem to handle the situation where a nested object is null. For example, given ClassA and ClassB (the nested object) defined as follows:

the report displays "#Error" if TheNestedObject is null. If TheNestedObject is not null, it correctly displays the Name.
In my report I want to display the dollar amoumt in textboxs.So I set the textbox property Format as currency.My question is that I want to reports show brackets for negative dollar values. It works out except "$" sign being showing whenever there''s an amount showing. I want to remove this "$" sign from the report.

I can populate my combo, select item in combo, update database but the problem is when I load my form it displays empty combo (combo is fulled with my custom data but nothing is selected it must select correct ItemText) and after selecting a value in combo, the value disappears as soon as combo losses focus .
i created more projects using ReportViewer 2005 and 2008 in local processing mode than I can count on my hands. All Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 ASP.NET web forms projects. I always used some flavor of Object data source for the reports.Tonight, I attempted to add the same functionality to a Visual Studio 2010 MVC 2 project and am failing miserably. First, the Add New Item > Reporting > Report is now a 2008 RDLC and not a 2005 RDLC report. Secondly, when trying to add a DataSet, my usual method of create a data proxy class with static methods that return IEnumerables(Of Stuff) will not show up as sources in the DataSources drop down
Thirdly, my only option is to add a Database connection. There is no "Object Data Source" to pick from: Like I kind of alluded to, I have no problems whatsoever actually rendering a report using the ReportViewer control. What I can't do is figure out how set up a Data Source in these new-fangled 2008 reports with Visual Studio 2010 so that I can pump a list of domain objects into the ReportViewer and display the report.
UPDATE: With some more research, I've found that MVC projects do not allow object data sources to be used within them. One solution for my issue is to create a separate project in the solution -- a web application, a service, or even just a class library, to add the report to and design it accordingly.'m still looking for alternatives here, so don't run away too fast!
My form closes whenever I insert an object that has a data bound in it. The object I'm trying to insert is a textbox from the data source window (drag n drop). I've checked on the database and that the table has records in it.
I've been thinking about my options when it comes to events in vb.net.What I'd like to do is to track events that are fired in an application without explicitly declaring them with 'handles' sub. Here is a pseudo-[code]....
Yeah I know, not quite working, but is there any way of implementing something like this in vb.net? My end game is really to be able to monitor events fired in many objects from another object, isn't there a more maintainable way to do that then to add a special sub in each object that handles the event that I want to catch? I need some way to let one object handle events fired in other objects without a special sub, the AddHandler goes a long way, but I can't really use that dynamically like so:[code]....
I have a datagridview that is bound to a list object of a custom type via a BindingSource. From everything I've read, I should be able to click the column headers and the rows sort, This doesn't happen for me. Sortmode is set to automatic and the column headers aren't set to be used for selection so it should work.
I know that I could sort progamatticly but that seems a little bit of a waste given that I should just be able to do it by default.
Is there any sense to set custom object to null(Nothing in VB.NET) in the Dispose() method?Could this prevent memory leaks or it's useless?!Let's consider two examples:

OK - for starters - I'm not even sure that the title of this thread accurately describes what I want to do - but I had trouble verbalizing it. So I will give this a try: In my application, I have a custom object, call it myObject. In addition, I have another custom object called myObjectList which is basically a List(Of myObject).
Up until this point, all of the functions that I have been working with in my BLL and DAL have been shared - I haven't needed a specific instance of my object thus far. I currently need to write a function that finds a particular myObject within myObjectList and returns to me myObject. I know that the List(Of T) has a find method, but from what I have read so far - I don't think it is what I want (doesn't it return true or false? -and also, do I need an existing object to pass to it to see if it is in the list?)
I am using a loop to update properties of each object of a set of custom objects. The routine knows which controls to update because the controls value is not empty, I don't want the routine setting the corresponding properties to nothing when the control is empty. Now I know how to do this perfectly fine with IF statements such as:

But this feels really redundant doing that same IF block over and over for each property/control combination, I thought about creating a separate routine that takes the control as an argument and does all the repetitive IF blocks but I don't know how I could also pass an object property to tell the routine to update that particular property.

They were quite helpful, but I have been stuck in the first step while designing report as my custom class's property is not listed in field list of crystal report design view.[code]When I add my class objects to crystal report I do not get the usertype field from users class in field list.So how can I add usertype field to my field list? I have a datasource that needs to gather information for a label. These are both inside of a DataList that is connected to a different DataSource. When I debug my application, the value is Nothing. I thought I had the verbage right since there are no squiggly lines, but it isn't working.
I tried FindControl("dsPicklist") and DirectCast(FindControl("dsPicklist"), SqlDataSource) but neither one gets a value returned.

built rdlc report with report wizard, now i want to add columns dynamically to existing rdlc report instead of adding columns of drag them from the data source. i am using vb.net
I created a report (rdlc) based on a dataset coming from an Oracle database table. I inserted a ReportViewer into a form and associated the report with the ReportViewer. This made VB to automatically create a binding source and a table adapter. The problem is when i run the report the application hangs (with no error). Later i discovered that it is because the Oracle user password which is required for the table adapter to retrieve the data. I found this because i tried to preview the data in the table adapter and the password was required.
I create a small vb 2008 Windows Form application which pick data from SQL 2005 and display in rdlc report.
Report creation and initial data load is fine.. but when i do any change to data and when i pull the report again, it does not getting refresh and still shows the old data.

I am designing a rdlc report in vs2008 for windows application. I want to display the purchase and sales based on department. If i select one department it works fine but have no idea about how to display each department's purchase and sales data in different tables. I have used embedded resource to the report. Report is designed based on the DataTable(on dataset - xsd file) and which contains, ITEMS,Purchase,Sales and Net as Fields. I have attached an image with describes the format that i want to display.
