Accessing Objects From Within A Custom Object List
Mar 3, 2009
OK - for starters - I'm not even sure that the title of this thread accurately describes what I want to do - but I had trouble verbalizing it. So I will give this a try: In my application, I have a custom object, call it myObject. In addition, I have another custom object called myObjectList which is basically a List(Of myObject).
Up until this point, all of the functions that I have been working with in my BLL and DAL have been shared - I haven't needed a specific instance of my object thus far. I currently need to write a function that finds a particular myObject within myObjectList and returns to me myObject. I know that the List(Of T) has a find method, but from what I have read so far - I don't think it is what I want (doesn't it return true or false? -and also, do I need an existing object to pass to it to see if it is in the list?)
I need two seperate lists, which every item is Integer, String, Bitmap - and one which every item is Integer, String String. However I don't know how to do this, or even where to look - I've googled for custom objects and custom object lists. What I'm trying to do is this.Custom Object1 is Integer, String, Bitmap Custom Object2 is Integer, String, String
In one thread I'll be adding items to List1(Of Object1), and processing them, and adding the results to List2(Of Object2), however I need to be able from other threads to look at the list and say only give me the items where Integer = (my thread ID), is this possible? Any help, or even links to information that would be relevant to this request would be helpful?
Limited to using v2.0 of .Net framework (we use VB.net) due to environmental constraints on our servers.I've got an ASP.net webpage which pulls data from a webservice that performs checks on user accounts in active directory. Operators can check multiple accounts at one time using the web interface. The webservice returns a list(of AccountCheck) objects which themselves contain single properties like username, email address, and List(of AccountError) objects which contain multiple properties.[code]What I want to do is using some kind of repeater, create multiple panels or divs which contain labels showing the username, email etc, and a gridview which has the accounterror list bound to it to show all the errors. The users could be checking 2, 5, 7 accounts at once, and is dynamic.
I would like to create list of child objects from list of parent object. Like If i have list of bookingroom which has one member room then i would like to create list of room from it.
eg. code:
Dim BookingRoomList As List(Of BookingRoom) = New List(Of BookingRoom) Dim RoomList As List(Of Room) = New List(Of Room) BookingRoomList = BookingRooms.FillGrid()
[Code]....
Is there any short cut method instead of iterating over for earch?
I have created a list of another class and loaded the list with data. using breakpoints I can see that the data is loading and visible in my form page. However, when I attempt to access the list using a For Each loop, I get an error saying that "Value of type Customer can not be converted to Integer"I am trying to follow examples from tutorials on accessing list elements, but they are never lists of objects, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
My class that I have made a list of: Public Class Customer Private m_firstName As String
I am using a loop to update properties of each object of a set of custom objects. The routine knows which controls to update because the controls value is not empty, I don't want the routine setting the corresponding properties to nothing when the control is empty. Now I know how to do this perfectly fine with IF statements such as:
CODE:
But this feels really redundant doing that same IF block over and over for each property/control combination, I thought about creating a separate routine that takes the control as an argument and does all the repetitive IF blocks but I don't know how I could also pass an object property to tell the routine to update that particular property.
Is there a simple way to remove Objects from a List by using a specified value?I add 2 persons to a List, how can now I remove a person by a name without using any Loops? (if possible)
I have an RDLC report that I am rendering directly to the Response Stream as PDF (rather than using the ReportViewer). In the code that renders the report, it's DataSource is bound to a List(Of ClassA) objects defined in a custom assembly. This seems to work for the most part. My problem is that I can't seem to handle the situation where a nested object is null. For example, given ClassA and ClassB (the nested object) defined as follows:
Public Class ClassA Public Id As Integer Public Name As String
[Code]....
the report displays "#Error" if TheNestedObject is null. If TheNestedObject is not null, it correctly displays the Name.
I have a combo box that is populated with a list of objects (corresponding to all employee rows from a database that meet the criteria IsTech). These are not entity objects though, I have created my own class that stores the member values of each row from the DB. I have set the DisplayMemberPath to EmployeeId so the Combo box display the EmployeeId ( an integer ) member of my object. Ie. right now there are only 2 IsTech employees in my DB so the combobox displays the numbers 3 and 8 ( their EmployeeIDs).
I have a list of objects, each object has a score attribute,The list of scores needs to be combined on the player ID to become a totaled score or series. My current thought process is to For Each through the list of individual games, and add the score attribute to a new list of scores with the same objects. So one list would be like:
clsGame(ID Number, Sore) dim ScoreList as list(of clsGames) ScoreList.Add(New clsGame(11, 244) ScoreList.Add(New clsGame(11, 333) ScoreList.Add(New clsGame(11, 444)
Then go through combining on like ID's to make a new list of games, that would actually be the series.
Dim SeriesList as new list(of clsClasses) For each game as clsGame in ScoreList 'cycle through the list of series seeing if an ID matches, if so add the score onto that ID Else
[code]....
Now I don't know how to add the player if its not in the seiries list without doing a heck of a lot more for each statements. If I add it after the end if then it will be added even if it is in the list..I tried playing around with List.Contains method, but I could only see if it contaned the exact same values i.e
SeiresList.Contains(game)
and because the scores are different (series vs single game) it wouldn't match, and I don't know how to see if it contains an object with just one of the attributes the same...
I made an object that has several properties one of which is an integer.
I put all the objects into a list, and I wish to sort that list by the integer property, with the object with the highest property at item 0, with the object with the lowest property at the highest item # ( count -1).
I made the list of that item, as in
Dim GameList as new list(of clsGame)
And I wish to do something like the following
GameList.Score.Sort()
What is the syntax to do that? I looked up the MSDN and didn't really understand what it was trying to say
VB Public Class Form1 Dim AllPartFiles As List(Of Part)
[code]....
As I search a folder for files, it returns FilePath as a string for each file in the folder, then assigns a new Part.FullFilePath to the current returned FilePath, then add the Part to AllPartFiles list. So I can retrieve each Part from AllPartFiles later. But everything I try doesnt work.I know below is wrong, but might show what Im trying to do:
VB Dim Files() As String Files = System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(RootFolder, "*.ipt") Dim k As String
[code]....
Create a New Part, change its values, and then add it to AllPartFiles list for later, then repeat?
I have a datagridview that is bound to a list object of a custom type via a BindingSource. From everything I've read, I should be able to click the column headers and the rows sort, This doesn't happen for me. Sortmode is set to automatic and the column headers aren't set to be used for selection so it should work.
I know that I could sort progamatticly but that seems a little bit of a waste given that I should just be able to do it by default.
I am trying to find way to design a report using my own custom class. I found links:
1.) How to work in Crystal Report with Object Data Source?
2.) Use .net object as data source in Crystal Report 2008
3.) Binding object with List<> to Crystal Report
4.) How to assign Custom class as datasource in crystal report
They were quite helpful, but I have been stuck in the first step while designing report as my custom class's property is not listed in field list of crystal report design view.[code]When I add my class objects to crystal report I do not get the usertype field from users class in field list.So how can I add usertype field to my field list? Or do I have to take another approach? The reason i wanted to use it as i am:
1.) Showing a form where user can type keyword 2.) program filters the records as per keyword using LINQ 3.) when user clicks the print button, I want to set the filtered records as datasource of my report
I have a nested class, let's call it class1 and it has class2 inside it; VB.Net eg:[code]
1) How can I define X number of Class2 objects[let's call it: Node(x) array]** with NEW() subroutine called?' this raises error: dim cls2(n) as new class2 end sub.
2) How can I return actual number of Node() array? [code]Outside my class in main project I define cls1 object:[code]Now an array of class2 is created inside cls1.
3) Now,How can I access All of them[node(x) array which is created inside cls1] with all properties and methods available?
I remember I wrote a ProcessManager class with this functionality in .net 2003, nearly 4 years age, I don't have the code now.
I want to let the user input objects to a richtextbox 1 object on each line, and somehow use Random.Next to select pseudorandomly a few objects, the number 'few' inputted in a textbox.
In ASP.NET I have a form that has a Textbox named txtOutput and a button. In the main file.aspx.vb I can call a function from the button handler and in that function I can have [code]I have a bunch of functions in several other classes. For instance I have a class named AbleCommerce that does some database functions. These functions are called from my main class. In those functions, however, I have no visibility of txtOutput. All of my classes are, unfortunately, in the default namespace which I understand is not optimal but didn't seem to impact this issue.
Dont even know how to word this, reason I'm having so much trouble finding out the answer in help. But, basicly I'm trying to get data from many different text boxes named similar from my form, example:[code]where i would count up in a for and next statment from like 1 to what ever.
I need to dynamically access a bindingnavigator, is this possible? I basically want to have code in my Base form which enables or disables it's descendant's menu buttons depending on access rights.
I want to know the correct way to access an object that is stored as an object in another object...phew. Here is what I'm trying to do...
I'm creating a restaurant map and to keep things simple I have 3 classes -- cServer, cTable and cGuest. cTable has a property which should contain a cServer object eg
Public Property Server() As Object 'Called when the property is read Get
I've created managed code to programmatically provision websites on Windows 2008 servers from a Vista 64-bit workstation. The provisioning covers creating DNS entries, creating a file structure and a the IIS7 site (using Microsoft.Web.Administration aka MWA).I've had to do some DCOM configuration to get it to work through a firewall and it all works on the test server provided I'm in the same domain.I then cloned the Windows Server 2008 Virtual Machine (VM) that the provisioning does work on and then changed the clone's domain to the child domain in the forest where the production servers are sitting. The provisioning user credentials are synchronised on the parent and child domains. So the only change is moving domains and there is an automatically configured trust relationship between the domains.
Provisioning the file system still works on the server on the child domain, but managing DNS and IIS7 now have access issues.I've tried impersonating the Administrator on the child domain (and the thread identity is showing that works) and also had a go with CoInitializeSecurity (though I'm not sure that is appropriate for Win2008 and Vista)to no avail. What I really want to avoid is the need to have to store credentials separately on the workstation - it brings an unwelcome maintenance overhead and the possibility that if the provisioning user's password is changed, then the provisioning will unexpectedly fail on the production servers.Ideally once the provisioning user has logged onto the Vista Workstation, I'd like their credentials to pass through to the servers on the child domains (there are separate DNS and web servers) allowing them to manipulate whatever services (DNS, IIS7, file system) that are necessary. The solutions would seem to be something programmatic (whatever replaced CoInitializeSecurity?) or a Group Policy setting on the child domain may need altering to allow access. However being a humble software developer working out which of the myriad settings (one of the User Rights Assignments perhaps?) is outside my sphere of knowledge. The third alternative is to use Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) but I haven't done much with this yet and what I have indicates that this technology has its own security issues to accommodate.
I am trying to access objects created at run time. The following code works IF Options Strict is off. If it is on it indicates "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'System.Windows.Forms.Control' to 'System.Windows.Forms.TextBox'."
Option Strict Off Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim txt As TextBox = Me.Controls("T3")
[code]....
I am having trouble formulating the type conversion.A Second problem I am having occurs when I create a groupbox at runtime and then add the textboxes to the groupbox. I am having trouble drilling down to gain access to the textboxes inside the groupbox.
I need to migrate from Excel 2003 VBA to Excel 2007 VBA. When Microsoft introduced Excel 2007 it removed many objects from the previous versions and added some new objects. Also it hid some properties of particular objects. These hidden properties can be viewed by going to the object browser, right clicking any object and selecting "Show Hidden Members". My problem is I need to access these hidden properties. Is there any way I can access these properties. I can successfully migrate from Excel 2003 VBa to Excel 2007 VBA with the same functionality?
I've got a website and we just had a huge jump in traffic. Now all of the sudden we're getting sql parameter errors left and right. We switched to a new sql server a few weeks ago and everything has been fine but the added traffic seems to be breaking us.I have a data access class that is called when each user trys to logon. It runs through several tasks before finally updating the users last login date and forwarding them to the administration section.
What I'm seeing from the trace logs suggests that when I'm logging in the first several tasks are using my data (lets say user=birk pass=word). But at some point the accessor class starts sending over the data from someone else who's trying to login (lets say user=abcxyz).Every connection we make to the server is closed when we're finished with it. I'm nulling out all of the accessor objects when I'm finished with them. But somehow different user data from different sessions are making their way into other peoples instances of the object.
I'm not using session/application/cache/viewstate to store the objects so I'm not really seeing how they could edit eachother... Its just really weird and I'm not sure how to even go about researching the problem. This is roughly the accessor class... I trimmed out some of the parts that weren't reliant to the issue
