I have created a list of another class and loaded the list with data. using breakpoints I can see that the data is loading and visible in my form page. However, when I attempt to access the list using a For Each loop, I get an error saying that "Value of type Customer can not be converted to Integer"I am trying to follow examples from tutorials on accessing list elements, but they are never lists of objects, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
My class that I have made a list of:
Public Class Customer
Private m_firstName As String
OK - for starters - I'm not even sure that the title of this thread accurately describes what I want to do - but I had trouble verbalizing it. So I will give this a try: In my application, I have a custom object, call it myObject. In addition, I have another custom object called myObjectList which is basically a List(Of myObject).
Up until this point, all of the functions that I have been working with in my BLL and DAL have been shared - I haven't needed a specific instance of my object thus far. I currently need to write a function that finds a particular myObject within myObjectList and returns to me myObject. I know that the List(Of T) has a find method, but from what I have read so far - I don't think it is what I want (doesn't it return true or false? -and also, do I need an existing object to pass to it to see if it is in the list?)
I need to be able to add elements to a copy of mylist.testlist without modifying the global mylist object. (Which seems to be happening via the below code.)When I am working on x, which should be a totally separate object, mylist is getting modified as well. How can I fix this? I have worked with lists extensively and never seen this behavior before. I have tested and reproduced the problem in .NET 3.5 and .NET 4.0 on Win 7 Pro 32bit.
Source Code:
Public Class Form1 Public mylist As New test Sub Main()
I have some code that adds items to a List(of Object).
Here's my original code
Dim BeaconStoryList as New List(Of My.StoryType) Dim BeaconStory as New My.StoryType Dim NewStories() as New Foriegn.StoryType = GetStories
[Code]....
But as soon as the code assigned "Chicken" to BeaconStory.Title, then BeaconStoryList(0).Title would also change to "Chicken".
With my second version of the code this did not happen.
It's as though it was placing pointers into the elements of the array rather than values. If that is the case, however, then why does my second version of the code work - I'm still passing in the same thing - aren't I?
trying to write an updateview method to basically clear the contents of the current listbox and then loop through a list of objects and pass 2 items from each of the objects in the list into the listbox. This is what I have so far
vb.net Public Sub updateview() holidaylistbox.items.clear()
After reading all the examples for list of T exists and Find and find first, none show how to handle multi-property objects. Below is bare bones example maybe someone could flesh out to show how this should be done.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim DatePriceList As New List(Of DateAndPrice) DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/1/2000"), 10.12)) DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/2/2000"), 11.12))
Limited to using v2.0 of .Net framework (we use VB.net) due to environmental constraints on our servers.I've got an ASP.net webpage which pulls data from a webservice that performs checks on user accounts in active directory. Operators can check multiple accounts at one time using the web interface. The webservice returns a list(of AccountCheck) objects which themselves contain single properties like username, email address, and List(of AccountError) objects which contain multiple properties.[code]What I want to do is using some kind of repeater, create multiple panels or divs which contain labels showing the username, email etc, and a gridview which has the accounterror list bound to it to show all the errors. The users could be checking 2, 5, 7 accounts at once, and is dynamic.
I am working in VB.net and have a Class, Foo, that implements an interface, IBar.I have a List of Foo's, but I need to pass a list of IBar's into a function, but I keep getting casting errors, even when I use DirectCast. My code is [code]MainWorks works, but it would be really annoying and inefficient to have to do that everywhere I want to call this function.
I've added a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn to a datagridview and it displays items ok but what I want to do now is have a default item selected, rather than show up empty or as a "Please select" message.
how to access an item like a button in a windows application? For example, I would like to create an application that would be able to look at notepad's file menu and "know" that file, edit, etc on the file menu are clickable objects and identify (expose) these objects to my application.
I've hit a problem with the way I am using generics and I suspect that my design isn't quite right. I have a base class
AbstractBaseClass inherited by InheritingOneClass
[code]....
I have a generic list IList(of T as AbstractBaseClass) which I am populating with instances of the various inheriting classes. Now I can cycle through the list BUT depending on which subtype the item is, I want to pass the item to various functions (or instantiate various classes) which access properties/methods of the inheriting Class. I don't really want to have to use a Select Case and list all the potential types of the Inheriting classes. Is there a mechanism I can put in place to automate this?
I have a function that is called when a file is modified in a folder. This function updates the items of a listview which is stored in the UI.Here is the function :
Private Sub FileChangeNotify() Try LstMoulures.Items.Refresh()
I am moving from VB to C#. I am trying to loop through a collection class which is a collection of data classes but I can't seem to get the actual values out of the data class properties(find the correct code to do so). I have a method that loops through the collection class(Contacts) and saves each record(Contact). I am using reflection because my method will not know if it is Contacts class or a Customer class and so forth. Here is my code in VB(watered down)
Public Function SaveCollection(ByVal objCollection as Object, ByVal TableName as string, ByVal spSave as string) Dim objClass as Object
[Code]....
The C# code keeps returning null. In my locals window I can see the proprties on the class on objClass and the value of the propery but I can seem to figure out how to access it through code. I used the DictionaryBase because that seems to closely match would I need to do. My data class(Contact) has a bunch or properties that match the field names in the database of the Contact Table. After I get the propInfo variable set I then set up my SQLParameter with the fieldname, datatype etc and then set the value to the propInfo.value.
I'm looping all the properties in an object via reflection:
For Each p As PropertyInfo In values.[GetType]().GetProperties() If p.CanRead Then 'Do stuff End If Next
how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?
This program is supposed to allow the user to check items in a checked list box. If the item is checked, it goes into the Completed List Box on the right. The program then adds the unchecked items to the Pending list box on the left. I keep getting placement values (e.g. O,1,2) instead of the strings (e.g. "Key Returned") in the list box results (see photo attached)
Public Class frmCheckOut Dim i As Integer Dim cleaning As String = "Cleaning Inspection" Dim damage As String = "Damage Repaired"
Another program I am working on for fun, I am basically shuffling a list inside a listbox, what I want to do is delete the rest but not sure how to go through with that. At the moment I have this: [code] Just contains the code, declarations outside weren't included. So anyway, once clicked, it will call on the function to basically shuffle in a for loop, I was wondering if I should (or how should) create another function and call it in the click button or have just a loop in the click button so it deletes half the list. What I am doing is I have 20 list of items, I want the program to shuffle the items and then deleting the lower 10, meaning, if I had 10 items and wanted 5 top, I'd want: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and deleting 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
I have to make a VB project for one of my college Co-Sci classes. However, I am having issues doing what I think is logically possible. Part of our project entails creating a user defined class, then create a form that then instantiates an instance of the object type. After that we are to list the item in a listbox. That is all well and good and works fine.
What I need help with is looping through each object in the listbox, getting some data from the object, then moving to the next.
I have been trying something similar to c++. For example, an object contained in a c++ array can be accessed like this:
array[index].someObjectMethod().
How would someone do something similar to that for objects contained in a VB listbox? I imagine it starts something like this:
I am attempting to read the results from a SQL query into a List(Of) and I can see the List.count while adding items to the List increments, however in another part of my code when I am attempting to read the List the List.Count returns 0. My List is as follows:
Is there any way of accessing the keys and values (in javascript) in this array without knowing what the keys are?
The reason my json is structured like this is that the webmethod that I'm calling via jquery is returning a dictionary. If it's impossible to work with the above, what do I need to change about the way I'm returning the data?
Here's an outline of my webmethod:
<WebMethod()> _ Public Function Foo(ByVal Input As String) As Dictionary(Of String, String) Dim Results As New Dictionary(Of String, String)
I have an error panel that is subbed in to a page if an error goes wrong to gracefully handle and display errors.Currently, I am just appending the error messages to a string and pushing that to a label. If you have multiple errors, this gets messy.I'd like to push each error to a list item in a bulleted, unordered list. How can I dynamically generate, from a vb codebehind file, new list items inside of an undordered list element?
I have two generic lists, named ListA and ListB. Both ListA and ListB could potentially have duplicate items. What I would like to do is use LINQ to grab the items in ListB that are not in ListA, but I'm unsure how to do so.
i want to search item A (from a list of X items) in list B but i want to get the item not found example Search ITEM A in LIST B if not found then return a print....if found continue with ITEM B..and so on.
That was probably bad title, but I'll illustrate what I'm trying to do. I have a method in a class that I need to call several times. The method returns a List(Of String). I'm just grabbing some information from a database.
VB.NET Public Function GetTestList() As List(Of String) Dim int As Integer = 0
I have a Public Sub I am using to enumerate running processes and then display them in a ListView.I want to be able to update the list automatically each second. I've thought of doing this in two different ways, but the method that I want to use is checking if the process has exited or not.
When reading up on the Process Properties, I ran into .HasExited and .Refresh.I thought that I could use a timer and have it tick at 1 second intervals. I would then check, each second, if the Process has exited. If it has, remove it from the list. The problem with this, is that I don't want to put the sub in the timer because it would just constantly flicker the control. I need to figure out a way to access the variables inside of the Sub while inside of the Timer's .Tick event. The other issue is being able to add processes that aren't there. Which I can within another sub. I was thinking I could create a sub that grabbed the Processes by ID, compare them to the list, and them add them if they aren't there. If I did this, I could also remove Processes by ID that aren't in the list.
I have VB.net progam that is sucsefully accessing playlist from the media player lib but I can not figure out how to get list of photos that has a perticular keyword like the display in MP under photos if you click keyword?
