.net Xml To Dataset Back To Xml?

Jul 28, 2009

I recieve a failry complex XML from a web service (30+ tables; with nesting). I need to be able to look a this data; make mods and then pass it back (still well formed per xsd) to the web site. I am able to parse it both natively in XML and by putting it into a dataset. I am more comfortable working in a dataset so thought the best approach for me would be to take the XML to a dataset dsOrder.ReadXml(XMLreader) (also tried with inferschema switch) work with it as required; then using _newXML_str = dsOrder.GetXml

put the dataseet back into xml. This almost works, but the XML while well formed does not adhere to the schema. In particular, it appears that all the simple types for a table are put ahead of the complex types (even thoguh the schema wants some of these items intermixed), so when sent back to the web site, it complains about the order of the tags.

is there a way to get the xml from dataset command to form an xml that will ahdere to the schema? I tried using the available xsd to influence this process but it either doesn't work or I did not know how to apply it properly. If someone has a suggestion for this application I would appreciate comments and any detailed samples that come to hand. I am working in vss 2008; framework 2.0; and use vb.net.

I have been able to load the information into the dataset, and used the datCustomers.Customers.AddCustomersRow to add a new row to the dataset with information.

I now want to save the updated dataset to the database. I have tried using the adapterCustomers.Update(datCustomers) command to no avail. how to save the dataset to the database?

Update Dataset Back To Remote Database Via Web Service

Jul 14, 2011

I am connecting to a web service that returns a dataset that I use as a datasource for a windows client datagridview.

Once a user has made changes to the datagridview record(s), how do I get those changes back to the connected dataset and back to the remote database.

I wrote the sql update function in the service:

Code Snippet from web service

<WebMethod()> _
Public Sub Update_equipment_repair(ByVal repair_id As Int64, ByVal date_entered As DateTime, ByVal date_sent_in As DateTime, ByVal date_returned As DateTime, ByVal damage_description As String, ByVal vendor_id As Int64, ByVal repair_description As String)

[Code]....

This displays the records perfectly and I figured out how to delete and insert records via web service.

writing updates from the datagridview back to the database.

Deserializing Data Back To A Dataset But Data Is Not Persisted To DB

Jul 27, 2011

I have a situation where I serialized data from a dataset to an xml file as a method of backup.I am trying to get the data deserialized back to the dataset. But for some reason, I cannot get the data to persist back to the DB.I don't receive any error messages either. The first chunk of code is the serialization code and the second chunk is the deserialization code.I can show that the deserialization back to the dataset is complete because this code in the 2nd block DataGridView2.DataSource = Movie_dbDataSet.movie_tb - displays the data in correct form all it is all there in the datagridview2.I call the update method but it does not get persisted back to the db.[code]

Passing Back Lisbox Values When Going Back To Previous Page?

Jul 23, 2009

I have a search page with a couple of pulldowns. Dependig on the values of them I show a grid matching the searched criteria, basically a table with links the user can navigate to. My problem comes when the user wants to navigate back. At the moment I have a "Back" button which simply redirects the user to the initial search page. I think it would be a good improvement to have the values of the pulldowns filled in with the values the user selected, this way when he presses the "Back" button he would not have to restart the whole search process again.

Delay In Back To Back Messages Through Socket

May 10, 2012

We have a server application and a client application that communicates with each other using socket.

When the server application sends 2 messages about 16-31 ms apart, the 1st message is received by the client application with little delay (like 16-32 ms after it was sent). But the 2nd message is received by the client application a lot later (like 200 ms later) than when it was sent.

We already disabled Nagle algorithm (set NoDelay = True) in the socket in both the server and client application.

But to send a second email you need to wait about 20-30 minutes.the problem. One thing we tried was changing the smtp email server. We tried a third party smtp server but the same problem persisted. So I think the problem is not with the smtp server but with our .net code.

The application will encounter multiple websites but each website will have the same elements but not neccessary in the same order so I was going to tell the app to loop through the IF statement and if the condition is met to run that sub routine where it starts over and loops through the IF statements until next condition is met.

IDE :: Dataset Code Behind Datatable.ColumnChanging Event Firing / But Dataset.HasChanges Property Not True

Jan 28, 2010

I have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table. .net - Combine Multiple Dataset Columns To One Dataset?

May 19, 2010

I have multiple datasets that I would like to combine into one. There is a common ID field that can be associated to each row. Calling Merge on the dataset will add additional rows to the dataset, but I would like to combine the additional columns. There are too many fields to do this in one query and therefore would make it unmanageable. Each individual query would be able to handle ordering to ensure the data is placed in the correct row.

For Example lets say I have two queries resulting in two datasets:

SELECT ID, colA, colB
SELECT colC, colD

The resulting dataset would look like

ID colA colB colC colD
1 a b c d
2 e f g h

Repointing A Report Dataset To A Test Dataset

Feb 18, 2011

ok, I've finally got my test database issues sorted out, however now I need to actually modify my existing report to add the two new fields from my test database. I have made a copy of the report so that I am not modifying the original. I have deleted the two old fields and now want to add my two new fields in there. In the Field explorer window, I see an object called "dataset1" and when I expand it, it is using a view that includes fields from the table that I added my two new fields to.

The problem I see here is that I have gone in and modified the view to include these two new fields in my test database - but again, they are not showing up as selectable fields here. I am just assuming that "dataset1" is somehow pointing to the live database again and that I need to change the datasource location. In my solution explorer, I see an object called "dataset1.xsd" but the properties of that do not tell me much about where it is actually pointing to...

C# - .NET Dataset Design - Have A Dataset For Each Table?

Jul 23, 2010

I have some concern about designing Datasets. I was told that it would be good to have a dataset for each table for maintenance purpose. Because frequent change in database tables is expected, having one dataset including every tables would be pain to make the corresponding change in the application.

Q. is it good approach to have a dataset for each table ( I would end up having 30~40 datasets for each db table using Stored procedure) ?

I have a separate project for commonly used datasets. each project include "dataset project" as a reference, and use it by including needed dataset into Forms, classes, etc.

Q. Does this approach makes the whole system to be slower? If I have a set of datasets as a separate project, it would be beneficial, since It will be easier to make a change (I only need to make modification in one place)

Datatype Of A Dataset - Filling A Dataset

Feb 26, 2010

I am having difficulties with Filling a dataset. It seems to be automatically assigning a datatype to the column based off of the first field of data it finds in that column. The column sometimes contains an integer, but it may also contain letters and numbers. If the first field is an integer, it says the fields in the column that contain a letter are DBNull. I'd like for the entire dataset to be formatted as a string/text type since I do not know what the values will be that I'm importing 100% of the time. How do I tell the dataset to expect a certain datatype for all columns and rows i'm going to import?

Declaring Variables With New DataSet Vs DataSet?

Apr 16, 2010

What is the impact of creating variables using:

Dim ds as New DataSet
ds = GetActualData()

where GetActualData() also creates a New DataSet and returns it? Does the original empty DataSet that was 'New'ed just get left in the Heap?

What if this kind of code was in many places? Would that affect the ASP.NET process and cause it to recycle sooner?
