C# - .NET Dataset Design - Have A Dataset For Each Table?

I have some concern about designing Datasets. I was told that it would be good to have a dataset for each table for maintenance purpose. Because frequent change in database tables is expected, having one dataset including every tables would be pain to make the corresponding change in the application.
Q. is it good approach to have a dataset for each table ( I would end up having 30~40 datasets for each db table using Stored procedure) ?
I have a separate project for commonly used datasets. each project include "dataset project" as a reference, and use it by including needed dataset into Forms, classes, etc.
Q. Does this approach makes the whole system to be slower? If I have a set of datasets as a separate project, it would be beneficial, since It will be easier to make a change (I only need to make modification in one place)

I use a dbDataAdapter to populate a DataTable from an unlinked oracle database.I have a dbDataAdapter that I want to insert rows into an SQL Server table using SQLCommandBuilder.I have been trying all day to update the DataTable that references the SQL Server table with the data from the Oracle DataTable so that I can insert the rows.

I have a dataset (WW1Dataset) with one data table(WW1).(database used in an access database) I'm trying to filter the dataset e.g a user wants to filter by a chosen surname (SurnameTextBox.text) so the datset is filtered to display only those records wherethe surname column in the dataset matches SurnameTextBox.text.

in my project i have inserted a dataset and created a table using design view with columns "id", "name" and "add" and used this table in my crystal report.
Now what i want.I want to send details from text box to dataset so that when my report is generated it will show those data. i am familiar with saving data in normal database table Access or sqlserver. but i dont now how to save in dataset.me the code to save data in dataset from textbox as well as if i want to save from datagridview.

Not sure if I have the correct subject line. Here is my issue. I have a form with 2 GridView. One GridView has a list of all zipCodes. The users is to select a location from a dropdown list, then select the zipcodes he/she wants to be assigned to that location and then click the "Add" button. The zipcodes then appear in the second GridView. When the user clicks the "Save" button, the data is sent to the database. The is also a "Remove" to remove zipcode(s) in the second GridView.
How do I track changes only in the second GridView. There could be 1000's of zipcode in the second GridView. Do I just remove and re-insert the list for that location evertime the user click save? I was thinking of using a DataSet, add DataRows and then update, however I am not using a DataAdapter to load my dataset, so there is no way for me to use DataAdapter.Update(ds). I am using the SQLHelper.ExecuteDataset(parms)

I have a small dataset which has most of its schema defined at design time, but I add a few columns to one of its tables at runtime. My problem is how do I reset those changes? he dataset is not linked to any datasource. It just has its own table which I "manually" populate. The static columns have been added to the datatable at design time. However, I add a few columns as runtime based on a list of categories. Like this:

The dataset is used in a small dialog that pops up within my application. I add the dynamic columns when the dialog is opened by using the Load event. Everything works great the first time. But if you close the dialog and reopen it, there are problems. My startup routine tries adding the dynamic columns again, but an error is thrown saying the column already exists. I have tried a lot of things and did some reading but I can't figure out a way to reset the dataset when the dialog is closed. The only solution is to close the whole application and reopen it. I have tried the following in the Leave event of the dialog form:

Several of the detail tables also have detail tables linked.Now I need to add a master table that sits on top of my existing master table making it a detail table.

I have a project which contains a large number of lookup tables, and I have all of these lookup tables represented in a single typed DataSet, which contains TableAdapters for each lookup. I've designed an editor for these lookup tables, which should allow editing of one of these at a time. My front-end is written in VB and WinForms, the back-end is a SOAP web service; I can successfully pass the changes to the DataSet back to the web service, but can't find a way to use a TableAdapter to update the single table that has been changed.
What I'm trying to do is instantiate the appropriate TableAdapter for the updated DataTable by sending the name of the table back to the web service along with the DataSet, then referring to the TableAdapter with a dynamic name. The normal way to instantiate a TableAdapter is this:
Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters.tlkpMyTableTableAdapter
What I'd like to do is this, but of course it doesn't work:
strTableName = "tlkpMyTable"
Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters(strTableName & "TableAdapter")
Is there any way to achieve this, or am I taking the wrong approach altogether? My other alternative is to write separate code for each table, which I'd prefer to avoid!

How can I update local dataset with mysql database without making duplicates. Assuming I set some column in mysql as primary key, which has unique string.
adapter.fill will just add duplicates, but adapter.clear before that is not an option.
So I want to update if the key column is the same with mysql data and if there is option for ignore adding new row.

I have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.

I have tried everything I can to get beyond this error which shows below as <<<<< error here. It is trying to fill a dataset from a data adapter. If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table. I have two Datagrids, One grid has all the customers garments on it with style number and contact length. The other grid has the users who have garment issued to them. the style number is in both grids. I need to loop through the users grid and say if the contract number is 1 from the first grid then the contract date on the second grid will be todays date + 365 days (year contract) I have looked at using a stored procedure and also a for each command but I am just getting stuck with it all. I am trying to use a data set to replace some objects i have currently got but wich are getting rather complicated. I have created my self a Data Set, currently simplified but am just learning ATM, I have normalised it as per basic understanding of databases.
3 tables
A Parts Table with 2 columns, Serial Number as the primary key and Data Inspected
A Feature Table with 2 coloumns, Feature Name as the primary key and Nominal
Data Table with Part Serial Number, Feature Name, Actual and a KeyColumn which is self incrementing read only.
Ultimately the Parts Table and Feature Table will have a lot more meta data that I will want to sort/filter. I would like a Data Grid Veiw or equivalent in WPF to show a table of all the data for all the parts, so features along one axis and parts along the other. Ultimately I would like to be able to sort/filter on both axis using different bits of meta data. I am aware of LINQ and DataVeiws, have had a play though not good at either, so far have only managed to get one column of data, so either all the data for one part or all the data for one feature.
I'm also aware of the Entity Framework though have no idea how to use it. So my question is, do I need to extract the table one column at a time? seems a bit inelegant, or is there a query or View I can set up to do this? or am I using completely the wrong tool? I know this might work in a fully fledged database but cant install/assess one on the machines to be used I need to keep it contained to the .net executable. If I need to do it as a loop am I right in assuming LINQ would be a better choice to put in a for loop?

I have multiple datasets that I would like to combine into one. There is a common ID field that can be associated to each row. Calling Merge on the dataset will add additional rows to the dataset, but I would like to combine the additional columns. There are too many fields to do this in one query and therefore would make it unmanageable. Each individual query would be able to handle ordering to ensure the data is placed in the correct row.
For Example lets say I have two queries resulting in two datasets:
SELECT ID, colA, colB
SELECT colC, colD
The resulting dataset would look like
ID colA colB colC colD
1 a b c d
2 e f g h

ok, I've finally got my test database issues sorted out, however now I need to actually modify my existing report to add the two new fields from my test database. I have made a copy of the report so that I am not modifying the original. I have deleted the two old fields and now want to add my two new fields in there. In the Field explorer window, I see an object called "dataset1" and when I expand it, it is using a view that includes fields from the table that I added my two new fields to.
The problem I see here is that I have gone in and modified the view to include these two new fields in my test database - but again, they are not showing up as selectable fields here. I am just assuming that "dataset1" is somehow pointing to the live database again and that I need to change the datasource location.In my solution explorer, I see an object called "dataset1.xsd" but the properties of that do not tell me much about where it is actually pointing to...

I am using VB.NET 2008 and I want to delete an unused table from the dataset. When I do this I get error messages which seem to originate in the Table Adater Manager on the various forms. The only way I can figure out to correct this is to delete the table from the code after deleting it from the dataset designer. But it says that you shouldn't do this.
