I use Project Setting in visual studio 2008 and everything works correctly and save my information when the application is closed. However the information it lost when the application is Uninstalled. The information is not available with my new install.how to keep Project Settings through uninstall and installs!
View 4 RepliesWe're in the process of releasing software and i've noticed that our standalone version (Windows forms) reinstalls for each users, the issue for this is that we sell to colleges and generally they install of network shares. When the software tries installing for a user it can't find the network share (e.g. permission denied).
How can i stop the installer from launching when the user launches the software.
Reminds me of how Microsoft Office use to be back in the days of 2000.
I have a setup and deployment project that installs my application. During installation, I create a hierarchy of folders under the C: drive.
However, when I use add/remove programs to uninstall my application, I do NOT want this hierarchy of folders to be removed. How is this possible?
Also, when creating the folders, I set "AlwaysCreate" to True. If one of the folders already exists, will it be replaced with my new empty folder? If so, how can I prevent this.
I'm facing a major problem with a Deployment Project I created to install one of my applications.I am using the ENGLISH IDE of the Visual Studio 2008 - even though my end users will have German environments. This is why I set the
Localization = German
Property in the Deployment Project's Properties. The UI of the generated setup is German, so all's fine there. However, the setup installs the ENGLISH .Net Framework. I have not found any way around this.The problem are at least twofold:
1. An English Framework on a German PC might cause instabilities.
2. It's a big flaw to see UI inconsistencies (i.e. the UI and Setup of the application is German while the NET Framework shows certain elements in English, e.g. the DisplayName property of cultures)how can I get the project to install the localized .NET Framework?
Have a VB.net application that installs initially from CD and then when the user gets into the internet the application updates. In order to better support problems with this application is has been suggested in the past to uninstall it and do a fresh re-install. However, in investigation it was determined that the uninstall does not consider all installed objects and does not uninstall the CD install.Can the uninstall functionality be modified to catch the other instances of this application and also uninstall them?

Is it possible to initialize a My.Settings value in a Visual Basic Deployment Project (VS 2008)? I can add the Radio Button Dialog to prompt the user, but I don't see how to use that to set the My.Settings value.

how to do the followings when creating the Set-up project for a program I created.The Page which appears when the "Setup" project is successfully finished, shows a menu bar in the "Solution Explorer". The "Custom Actions Editor" gives a list of (1) Install, (2) Commit, (3) Rollback & (4) Uninstall. I couldd do anything on this. Why these folders are there? How can I use this to create an "Uninstall" utility? What are they meant for? 1) How to include "Uninstall" part for aa program? (I want it appears in the Program menu on moving the Cursor on the Program. 2) How to create the "Uninstall" for a program?3) I couldn't make my program to appear in the list of Program Menu after installing (I'd to make a "Shortcut" of the program in the Program Menu), it didn't appear in the Desktop also - again I had to make a Shortcut on the Desktop also manually.The Tutorials didn't explain anything about this but only showed these options are available.

View 1 RepliesI've created a program that creates a registry value when it is run, and when this program is uninstalled I need it to remove this registry value if it exists. So I wrote a little command line VB.NET program that simply checks for the reg value and removes it if it exists and I added this to the Uninstall section of the Custom Actions tab in the Visual Studio deployment project that I created for this app.
I know that the command line app works because if I run it myself manually it deletes the registry value, but when I uninstall my application it does not remove the registry value so obviously this command line app is not being executed.
We are currently changing our Antivirus program which involves uninstalling our current one first. That isn't a problem but we have several laptop users not in the building who might have a problem uninstalling programs.
It should be possible to write a script/program to automate the uninstall process I guess, but don't know where to start. Can someone point me in the right direction?
I am rewritting my application to conform to ms standards. We used to save all settings to registry for user settings, servername, size and locations.so we are now saving them into My.Settings app.config the only problem is that each time there is an update clickonce will isntall the newupdate but now all settings are loist and user has to save everything all over again..

I now make a new project. Project 2. But I want to have the same settings as project 1. It would be easier to import the settings from project1. but can this be done.
Ive seen the setting file in the explorer but this code is auto generated so if its copied into project 2 after you save its regenerated again from the properties->settings values.
I have a project that has several different interfaces (a website, a local application, and some webservices), that all use the same class library. The library is an API to a database. Some settings, like log level, database connection etc, i want to store in a single place, and I want them editable. What is the best way to accomplish this? I am concerned both about ease of editing, and ease of access for the dll, as there will be a lot of calls to it and a lot of lookups for the values. I have considered using app.config, a standalone XML file, and writing values to the registry, but I cannot find any good comparisons.

I assume this means it's as easy as defining font or color settings. However, I'm not having much. Are any of you gurus aware of how to set up an enum setting via the Project Settings UI?

This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.
View 4 RepliesIn a VB.Net project, you can use the Settings tab of the properties page to define application settings. To reference the settings in code, you use the syntax My.Settings.SettingName in VB.
On the Settings tab, you get to choose the Access Modifier. It may be "Friend" or "Public". Presumably, when you choose "Public", you are making the settings accessible to other assemblies. However, once "Public" is chosen, I can't figure out the syntax to reference the settings of one project from another. In fact, I can't observe any difference between using "Internal" vs. "Public" as the access modifier.
My question: Does choosing "Public" as the access modifier make settings accessible to other assemblies? If so, what is the syntax to reference the settings from other assemblies? If not, what does "Public" do?

View 2 RepliesFor reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
