2010 OleDb Text Connection String: "Not Valid Path"

Nov 7, 2010

I've been all over the help files and finally patched together a VB OleDb connection string for delimited text files:

Dim connection As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=" & fName & ";" & "Extended Properties=""text;HDR=YES;FMT=Delimited"""

"fName" is passed in by an open file dialog.In every case (for all paths) it throws: 'C:1_2010NormalFileNormal.csv' (or where ever it is pointed) is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.Since no path works, it must be a syntax error, but I'll be darned if I can see it.

Full code of this routine is:

Dim connection As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=" & fName & ";" & "Extended Properties=""text;HDR=YES;FMT=Delimited"""
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection(connection)

[code]....

VS 2008 - How To Get OLEDB Connection String To User Folder

Jul 17, 2009

I have a script that checks a version table from one mdb (server) and compares it to the same table in another mdb (user folder), if the version number is mismatched it needs to replace that file from the server, to the user folder. The problem is, how to get the OLEDB connection to the user folder since, the folder destination is
E:Configurator & UserName & Detail2004.mdb
How to set this up?

Here is my code:
Dim UserName As String = Environment.UserName.Substring(Environment.UserName.LastIndexOf("") + 1)
Dim connectionString2 As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" + "Data Source=C:Configurator" & UserName & "Detail2004.mdb"
Dim con2 As New Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(connectionString2)
Dim cmd2 As Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand

Asp.net - Reading CSV File With OLEDB Ignores First Line Even With HDR=No In Connection String?

Jan 4, 2011

We're converting a Classic ASP site to an ASP.NET site. One function was to upload a 'template' of data in CSV format for importing into the database. There were several different record types in there (the first field always indentifies the type of data).The task was to get the CSV into a DataTable so it could be validated (new project is to have MUCH better validation rules)

The code seemed pretty straightforward - watered down (taking out comments, Try/Catch, etc) it is as follows:

Dim da As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Dim cn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strDirectory & ";" & "Extended Properties=""Text;HDR=No;FMT=Delimited;""")

[code]....

The DataTable (dtData) is populated, but only starting with the second line of the CSV file DESPITE the fact that "HDR=No" is in the connection string.

VS 2010 : Establish An OLEDB Connection And Return The Values From The Selected Table To A DataGridView?

Apr 16, 2010

I am unable to load the dat into the data Grid. Here is where I keep getting stuck.

dgvOleDb1 = table.Select
dgvOleDb1.DataSource = DataGridViewEditMode.EditProgrammatically
dgvOleDb1.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)

I am confused; I am using VB2010, IBM.iSeries.DB2 on an as400 V5R4. I am trying to establish an OLEDB connection, and return the values from the selected table to a DataGridView. I had one of the admin's make me file named GARBAGE, in the Rprtaccess catalog. In the past, I have been able to connect via access and an ODBC connection. My project is too big for access, and the SQL middleware we have is clunky and not user friendly. This is a program that will generate the SQL statements, specifically the WHERE: clause and populate the datagrid with the selected criteria. In essence I am making a user friendly striped down program, that has variables that are manipulated by the end user, and the rest, referenced tables and libraries are coded.

Imports System.Data.OleDb
Imports System.Exception

VS 2008 .DBF Connection String - Invalid File Path?

Sep 21, 2009

Dim dbconn As OleDbConnection
Dim DBCommand As OleDbDataAdapter
Dim DS As New DataSet
dbconn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:COLORsitedataCUFORHDR.dbf;Extended Properties=dBASE IV;")

[Code]...

I prefer SQL server but im afraid in this app I have no choice. I think the .DBF file is v III dBase according to a thrid party .dbf viewer. The code explodes on the DBCommand.Fill(DS) line, telling me I have provided and invalid file path. The path is good to go.

Should I be using a driver with a different provider? When I remove the Extended Properties parameter I get an error unrecognizable database format - hinting in this case the path is correct.

VS 2010 - String Not Recognized As Valid DateTime

Jun 30, 2011

I am having a major issue understanding why this code runs fine once and then when run a second time causes the "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime." exception. This program loops through folders and subdirectorys and retrieves the file dates from the last modified date of the file , Its only when i click New Report to reset all the values in the settings which clears all object lists and resets all the other values that this issue occurs.

This is the value being passed to this function:
#6/14/2011 4:46:51 PM# (The file inside the subdirectory,s last modified date.)

The function is
Public Sub setFileDate(ByVal fileDate As DateTime)
'Format the datetime from the filedate to a UK culture.
Dim myDateTime As DateTime = DateTime.Parse(fileDate, ukCulture.DateTimeFormat)
'Set the current files date.

Programmatically Tell If A Client Machine Has The Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 As A Valid Provider?

I need to export data into an Access database. My code works, but it works with the assumption the client machine has the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 as a valid provider.

I want to test to see if this is true or not, in code. My problem is that I don't have the location of an existing access database and I don't want to create a new .mdb that I'd use to verify the connection and then delete it.
