AppSettings Clear Xml Element In App.config

Jun 13, 2011

What is the purpose of the <Clear > XML element within the <AppSettings> tag in an application's config file?I see it removes previously added settings (see code below), but why would you want to do that? [code]I also understand that when manipulating app settings in code you could clear existing keys, but why have the <clear> XML element?Also, out of habit really, i've been putting the <clear> element before any <add> elements. Do i need to do this, should i not be doing this?

Grab Attributes Of Articles Element Under Custom Section In Web.config File

Sep 2, 2009

I am building the 'TheBeerHouse' project in vb.net (the book is written in C#). Once I understand the concepts, I can usually convert it to vb. However, there are a few areas that give my some problems (which I will address individually). The first issue I have is the C# 'base' to VB 'MyBase'. [code] My understanding of this conversion is that I need to grab the attributes of the <articles> element under the <theBeerHouse> custom section in the web.config file.This code does not compile and the get the following error: 'MyBase' must be followed by '.' and an identifier.

Alarm In Access 2007 - Compilation Error: External Name Not Defined

Jul 25, 2011

I'm using access to replicate something that is very simple in excel. I have one "due date" column, and I want the cell right next to those cells to tell me if there are less than 15 days to that date. In excel is a simple conditional function, but I want to do it in Access because it looks better.I'm new to access and even though I've been reading some posts and forums I haven't been able to pull this out. I tried to program a macro with the following

Sub Alarma()
[Alarma] = IIf([Fecha de vencimiento] - 15 > Date(), " ", "Faltan menos de 15 das")

[code]....

It shows the following error -> Compilation error: External name not defined.

So, it's not reading the "Alarma" field... how do I define this field? It's inside a formulary, and Alarma is the title (I downloaded a template from the internet and changed the titles so I wouldn't have to do it from scratch...)

Get Exception When Trying To Access FormValues() Element?

Oct 8, 2010

The exception:

"Input string was not in a correct format."

Appears when I try to access a field on my page like this:

.TransmissionId = IIf(FormValues("TransmissionId").Length > 0, Integer.Parse(FormValues("TransmissionId")), 0)

However it works for another field which is the same exact type of field, accessed like this:

.StateId = IIf(FormValues("StateId").Length > 0, Integer.Parse(FormValues("StateId")), 0)

Where could the mismatch and exception be coming from? What could be the fault? The field doesn't have a value when I'm pulling it. Do I have to test for a value different for this number field than I would have to for a text field?

Access A WindowForm Element From A Class Function?

Sep 8, 2010

I work in MS Visual Studio 2008, I have a VB.NET Solution which has three Projects, BusinessObjectLibrary (object properties), DataAccessLibrary (object functions such as selectAll, exportToExcel) and WindowUserInterface (UserForms c/w Controls)In my WindowUserInterface (project) I have a form called "rolFormGrid.vb", on this form, I have a DataGrid that gets filled with a function called "selectAll" when the form is loaded, I also have a button that calls the function "exportToExcel" and I have a Progress Bar called "rolProgressBar" ***.

In my DataAccessLibray (project) I have a class called "ROL_Adapter.vb", and in this class resides the function called "exportToExcel" which has all the code to create an Excel Workbook. When this function is being called, it can takes close to a minute to export to excel. We all know how users can be impatient if they do not see anything happening in the foreground when an application is working, that is the reason I want the progress bar.

Asp.net - Element 'system.webServer' Has Invalid Child Element 'rewrite'?

Feb 14, 2012

I have a number of rewrite rules for a lot of things that I did in IIS7, like removing trailing slashes, canonnical URLs, lowercase lettering, and such. IIS altered my web.config, and everything works fine on the website, like it should. But in the Visual Studio web.config, the opening < rewrite > statement is underlined in blue, and at the bottom of VS, it says that the element 'system.webServer' has invalid child element 'rewrite'. But this is how IIS made it. I didn't do this manually. Should I be concerned with this VS error, or should I just leave as be, since it's working how it should work? VS 2010 Check For Element Or Keep Trying Until Element Is Found?

Feb 21, 2012

I have been doing well and also I am a noob I know it and you know it a lot has started making sense and I am evening figuring new things out without using Google but of course I have hit another snag in my program so here goes

I am waiting for an email to arrive (the page automatically refreshes) and then I want to click the link (I do not need to click to open the email or anything like that) I also have the code to click and navigate to the address reason being it was the only way I could figure out how to stop it opening in a new window on IE

So my only problem is I need a way to check every x seconds for the element and then if its there proceed with my code and if its not wait and then check again or however this is done in VB.If this is not the way its done please point me in the right direction the code I am using to find and then navigate to the link is

Dim emailpageelements As HtmlElementCollection = WebBrowser2.Document.GetElementsByTagName("a")
For Each emailver As HtmlElement In emailpageelements
If InStr(emailver.InnerHtml, "https://twitter.com/account/confirm_email/") Then

Speed Up Web Application Compilation?

Jan 19, 2011

I have tried looking at "related" questions for answers to this but they don't seem to actually be related...Basically I have a VB.Net application with a catalogue,administration section (which can alter the catalogue, monitor page views etc etc) and other basic pages on the customer front end.When I compile and run the app on my local machine it seems to compile fairly quickly and run very fast. However when deployed on the server it seems to take forever and a day on the very first page load (no matter what page it is, how many stylesheets / JS files there are, how many images there are, how big the page markup is and so on). After this ALL the pages load really fast. My guess is this is due to having to load the code from scratch; after that, until it is recycled, the application runs perfectly fast. Does anyone have any idea how I could speed this part of the application up? I am afraid that some customers

Is there a way for the class to tell if it needs to read web.config or app.config?
