I have spent couple of days searching the Internet for some hints, but I haven't succeeded. I need to enumerate all removeable USB storage devices and search for a file. It's important to say, I am looking for a device, which has no drive letter assigned - e.g. Garmin GPS etc.. how to enumerate the devices, indentify storage one and/or access its files?

I have run into a problem with a couple of the "Sync" applications I wanted to create. In both instances, I am trying to connect a Portable Device to my computer and access it using VB.NET. One application would pull the pictures in from my camera, rename them, and put them in folders according to their date taken. The other would place the podcasts I have downloaded onto my Mp3 Player. I have the logic for both so that if I run it on two Windows directories, for example (C:Source and C:Destination) but when I try to access the Portable device using a directory browser, the "OK" button is disabled. Is there any way to access the directories on such a device?
i'm making a VB 6.0 project to copy files to WCE 5.0 Device. i copied a code i found in msdn but when trying to compile it send me an error: Expected: Identifier[URL]..

how to read files from an USB mass storage device. I have found plenty of posts regarding drive letter detecting and reading the files. It's OK, but what about a device, where no drive letter is assigned - e.g. my mobile phone is visible under "My Computer" as "Mobile Device". The same situation it with my MP3 player. It's visible under "My Computer" as "Sansa device". Please, could anybody help me? I need to enumerate USB devices, identify, which ones have a file system and finally, I need to read/write a file to the file system.
I'm trying to access a device with modbus in VB or C#. I've been searching all over for a simple way to do it. I know that It would be connecting through a TCP Connection, and I know the address of the device. I need to read the input on it (whether of not it's on), and to toggle the relay on it as well.
I was just wondering if you could view the items on a connected Zune device (such as the Zune HD or any of the others. (4GB, etc.))Also, possibly listen to the songs / watch the videos on it with the Windows Media Player codec in the program, and view the pictures in a PictureBox? Is this possible at all? Can I at least view the items? Or is this strictly forbidden?
I have a sim card reader, that is a usb-to serial device. It has a sim card inserted. what i need to do is access that sim card to get the data, phonebook and sms for example. I CAN connect to the reader but i cannot send any commands or recieve any data.

I have some code I've written that has worked sporadically, and I don't understand the reasons why it succeeds or fails. The code in question is fairly straightforward, a single call to CreateFile() from VB.NET;
Dim Handle As Integer = Win32.CreateFile(KeyboardPath, GENERIC_READ Or GENERIC_WRITE, _ FILE_SHARE_READ Or FILE_SHARE_WRITE, Nothing, _ OPEN_EXISTING, &H80, 0)
The problem is that when I call this, I get the win32 error ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED, but if I remove the GENERIC_READ request, the handle is granted just fine. This has happened before (on a different machine), and I'm completely stumped as to what sequence of events would result in the ability to write to a device and not read from it. The device in question is a Logitech G510 keyboard, and this code has worked fine before on a Vista 32-bit system (I'm now testing it on a Win7 x64 system and fixing all the compatibility issues I can find). My question is, what can cause CreateFile to sporadically fall back to only allowing write access, what am I doing wrong that's causing it to do so, and how would I go about fixing the issue? I've included the full function below - note that with ONLY the GENERIC_READ flag passed, I also am not allocated a handle (same error)
As reference, the particular device path I've been using is \?hid#vid_046d&pid_c22d&mi_00#7&1a08be07&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030} (This is for a Logitech G510 gaming keyboard)
A Problem in accessing a device from VB Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.
I have this at the moment:
Sub Import() Dim db As Database Set db = CurrentDb
Ok I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.
After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.
So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.
Actually I want add some folders and files to MSI. Through custom action i want to copy that added folders and files to some destination/target folder.
I have developed a vb.net application which creates a csv file from database. When I run it from my system it works perfectly but when I copy the files from release folder to a folder on the server and runs the .exe file it give me IO Exception error. "The device is not readyť
We have some elaborate VB Excel macros that pull data in from various files. Now that we have switched over to using box.com as our file system, we would like these macros to read/write the required data to files stored in B

I need to create a helpsystem for my work. There's two user types ... common users and admin users. The common user needs to se all stuff except admin stuff - admin must see it all.
I use Camtasia to make screencasts - AVI files, which I need to put in my helpsystem. Seams like I can't stream the AVI from embedded resources, so I guess I need to save the AVI files to the users harddrive.
I need to copy all stuff to the client PC in case of network problems.
how to I prevent common users going to their harddrives and watch admin AVI files?
I have been automating MS Project with VB.Net. I can open .mpp files and access all the objects I need. Now the customer has asked to open these files from Project Server. I cannot get MS Project to Open with the server connection.
I have organized some configuration in folders within Visual studio project explorer. When I release the application those files are copied into the same directory (including sub folders) as the exe.Consequently I can access those files with My.Application.Info.DirectoryPathDuring debug VS does not copy the files into the Debug-folder, consequently my files cannot be accessed with DirectoryPath
I am writting an application that stores data in an Access database. I can't put the files in the Program Files directory since standard users can't write to that folder. I can't use a 'user' folder since multiple users will need to access the same file. In addition to accessing the file, users on occassion will copy new versions of the file into the folder, overwritting the old file.Where should I put this file? I am thinking the ProgramData folder, but when I create that folder during the install, it is also read-only for a standard user.I'm lost as to where I should put a file that can be accessed by multiple users, that is read/write, and I can install the folder into the location. I don't think I have a programmatic way of installing a file into the Public users folder.
Can anyone provide the resource to learn making connection between computers over the LAN and retrieve files? EDIT: And can I browse the folders like its done in the local machine?
I'm writing a program to examine logs of various servers on our network..they're not on our domain but i can map a drive to them by authenticating each time from my LP (which is on the domain)
my question is... how do i perform that same authentication with VB..
[Code]...
i'd like to either have a pop up box to auth as i would when i browse to the remote PC... OR be able to set it statically in the code (the servers all have the same admin login + password)
If I have added an html file to my vb 2008 form app project - for use with the webbrowser control. What would be the correct syntax for navigatingto it from the webbrowser.navigateto method.

I have just completed an upgrade of a VB6 app to VB.net (2008). Everything works as it should except for one (essential) part. I cannot open more than one instance of the built app without getting a file access error. Now don't laugh but my program uses Random Access files to store the data (i know, i know the 1990's called and they want their programmer back). Anyway I've been using this method since the early 90's and it's never let me down. Until now that is. VB6 allowed any number of users to access the files but for some reason VB.net gives the following error: The process cannot access the file "C:lah blah" because it is being used by another process.
I am working on a very simple program for someone and because it's been so long since i've programmed, I'm looking for an answer as to the best way to do the following.
My program consists of tracking incident reports and each report needs to have the data entered as well as the "paper form" linked to it that shows the members signature. I have everything completed on the program but how to get my file to link with the incident. I am using Access for my database and have been looking everywhere online on how to attachment documents within Access using the Attachment Datatype. So my question is.....
Should i find a way to import the file to Access, and if so, how do i do this, or should i just send the file path to Access as a text field, and then hyperlink the file when it is displayed on the report? I've never done anything like this and was just looking for some pointers.
I've inherited a VB.NET website and it won't compile because the class1 in the file class1.vb refers to class2 in a file called class2.vb. I get the following error when trying to compile[code]...
