Access Network Files Authentication?
Jul 16, 2009
I'm writing a program to examine logs of various servers on our network..they're not on our domain but i can map a drive to them by authenticating each time from my LP (which is on the domain)
my question is... how do i perform that same authentication with VB..
[Code]...
i'd like to either have a pop up box to auth as i would when i browse to the remote PC... OR be able to set it statically in the code (the servers all have the same admin login + password)

Our company runs Windows Server 2008 R2 and as part of the normal login procedure you type your username and password. IT sets the domain when you get your PC so that is all good. So, when you open IE, the intranet sight detects that you are person XXX YYY and then logs you into the site automatically as the right person.
Now is there any way that I can do the same with an application written in C# or VB.NET. I.e., I would like the user to not have to log in as they have already done so during Windows log in, and then use the application as the individual user. This is for loggin purposes and specific rights for each group.

I am trying to login to a webpage to parse data out of it etc. but the website I want to access requires authentication. I don't know how to do this with code. I have seen other threads that kind of tell you how to do this but those had the authentication boxes inside the actually the page on the web site I want to access it is in a pop up box so I can't see the source code for it.

I'm looking for guidence on using digital certificates to manage website user authenication and access. i am using a website that has this and what happens is this... the company issued me a personal certificate, that i installed on my local machine. When i connect to the website it checks my local cert store for a cert issued by them and if none is found, no entry, if multiple are found, then a box displays to allow you to pick which one to use.

I have a problem I want to make a server and client where the server is password protected and will make the client display files/folders in a designated folder which will be in the server's current directory and the client will ask what IP and password to connect to and if the password is correct is allows the client to access the files/folders in that folder in C.D. of the server and the client can download any file within the folder by clicking a button, yet don't even know where to start.

I am trying to restrict access to an intranet site via Windows authentication. I would like to control access via active directory user groups, but my added AD groups don't appear to be recognised by .net. I started with the following test code in my app to determine if the group could be used...
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Me.Label1.Text = User.Identity.Name
[Code]...
The isuserinrole returns false and the group is not shown in getrolesforuser. However, getrolesforuser returns all of the built in windows groups as well as custom admin user groups created by our anti virus software (SOPHOS). This tells me that .net doesn't seem to have any issue with reading our active directory but I don't understand why my custom group is not being recognised.

Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:

I have a xml file I want to send to a ubuntu server. I have created the xml file using a data table.
Before I was using the following to save on the current machine in the application folder. However, the customer has changed and now wants to store it on a remote network ubuntu server on the network.
What is the best way to send files across the network? Is it possible to send files from a windows machine to a ubuntu server machine?

I have a program where I need to be able to access files from an administrative share on a remote machine where the username is administrator and there is no password. I want to be able to access these files without the user getting prompted to input the username and password.
I have searched around and found some references to WMI - but as far as I can tell, WMI is mainly for managing the remote machine and not necessarily for file access (?). Also, some information gathered about WMI leads me to believe that it may be disabled on some machines or not installed on others (?). Since this program is meant to go out to a diverse customer base, I need to make sure that I cover as many angles as possible to ensure this program will run on as many machines as possible.

Developing an installer for an application, that runs based on parameters set in an XML file.
The initial install of the XML is in a template style (generic time for running app, generic settings), but via the Forms, I want to be able to have the user modify some of those parameters -say choosing time for the app to run- and then have the form write (Replace really) that data in the XML file.
Looking for some ideas as to how to approach this, as soon as I can catch on I will be able to do the rest on my own.

All i am trying to do is read and write files to a shared folder on a network in visual basic (VS 2010). I can go to the folder through windows without a problem and without being prompted for a password. However when i try to do it through visual basic, it cant find the directory. Here is my small snippet of code that i (hope) is telling me that the program cannot connect to the folder. [code] Are there any known issues with VS 2010 that may cause this? Maybe something else in my code that could have an effect? This is in my form_load event though, so it is literally one of the first things that runs.

In my app, I need two separate items. I need one item to be the administration panel that can edit information being shown on a remote computer, and I also need another item that will display the information. How do I get my program to talk across a network to edit the information being shown on computer 2? I'll also need to know then how to make the installer ask which part of the program it needs to install, and then install the appropriate part.

Is it possible to use a string as an array? I mean:' I have several arrays
Dim a10() As Integer = {530}
Dim a15() As Integer = {370, 231}
Dim a20() As Integer = {305, 176, 126}
'I declare a variable as a string and I assign the name of an array to it
Dim tablaalfa As String = "a10"
'I retrieve data from the array using the name of the variable instead:
lbl1.Text = tablaalfa(2)
I guess it doesn't work in this way?

My ultimate goal is to allow users to select a file from a dialog as if they are uploading a file. Instead of file being saved to the server, a hyperlink will be generated from the file's path.This hyperlink will then be used on our intranet page in order to open the file located on our network share.Is there any practical way to accomplish this?I have tried both an HTML file type insert and .Net's FileUpload Control but neither will work since for security reasons the full path of the file is never accessible.

With the help of NetFileEnum or Openfiles.exe of system32, we can get the username who has opened the shared files. Is there any API function or any exe files in any programming language like c#, vb.net, visual c++ to find out who is the user to create, rename, or delete shared files or folders on the network?

I have a .NET application (VB.NET) that runs against a MS Access database. Every data request connects to the access database, runs and returns the query and closes the connection back again. I placed the database on a windows xp 32-bit machine. I have two clients on which I installed the .NET application. Both clients are running windows 7 professional 32-bit. Now I have a performance problem with this.
When I use the first client it runs fine. All data is shown very fast. When I than use the second client, it takes some 10 seconds to connect to the database, fetch the data and close the database connection. When i ask for other data on that second client, it all runs fine, until I request data from the first client than back again. Than it takes again 10 seconds on the first client before my data is fetched.

I'm trying to download a file from the internet by clicking a button in MS Access.
I'm trying to use My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile as described here: [URL]
Private Sub Command2_Click()
My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile("http://www.example.com/temp/xml_test.xml", "C:xml_test.xml")
End Sub
but the 'Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications' IDE that I'm typing this into seems to have no idea what I'm talking about (text just turns red).
Can I just not do this through the built in VB editor or can I simply load a library or something to make it work?
Sorry but I'm very new to VB and to Access so search results are not specific enough for me to understand - lord knows I've tried.
I'm using Access 2010 but the DB was created in an previous version - not sure if that matters.

I am looking for a way to possibly intercept the point that a file is being accessed on a network share. Specifically before it is determined whether the user has access to the file or not.The goal will be to grant access to that file if the file request is coming from a specific process and that user currently does not have access.

I know my Question was asked maybe 10000 times before, but i really did not take the chance to search the forum coz i really short of time.
I have *.mdb DataBase with 20 tables each table have more than 10 fields, i'm trying to automate the MDB file from a network like that 5 PCS + One vb.net exe program (5 users) working on the same time on the exe that is connected to the database , my questions are :
1) How much risk is it to put the database into one (shared) folder and connect it to the program ?
2) What is the best way to establish this method ?
3) Is there any alternatives ?
