VS 2005 - Datasource - Network Path Is Not Supported For Database Files
May 20, 2010
i have a win app in vb2005 but when i want to create a data-source to connect with my database i got this error: The file \CATV-ANTIVIRUSdata|CLINICA_Data.mdf is on a network path that is not supported for database files.
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file \CATV-ANTIVIRUSdataCLINICA_Data.mdf failed. a database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. i need the datasource to start creating datareports but i don't know how to resolve this problem before.
I recently upgraded the MS SQL Server installed on my personal computer from 2005 Express to 2008 Express. Problem is when I try to add an SQL database file to a project using VS 2005 I get an error message saying that the version of my database server is not supported, I must have SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later installed. I didn't do it yet but I'm pretty sure that when I open the other projects that I included a database file to it, I'm going to get the same error. My question is it possible to have two SQL Servers installed on my machine? If so, is it a good idea to have two DB servers in the same machine?
Error Message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL 2005 are supported VB.NET" I am using VB.NET 2008 and attempting to connect to SQL Server 2008 with XP as the operating system. I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. FYI, the error does not occur when I am using code to connect to SQL Server but when I attempt to connect using one of the designer wizards this error occure.
I normally place all db related work in my databases in SQL Server Express 2005. But in tutorials I have seen, I heard that one needs to re-create referential integrity and relationships and constraints and checks and defaults anew in datasources mapped onto databases. Is this true? What parts of a database are NOT mapped on to datasources?
I have created a folder inside my project and i put an icon on it, now i want to use it as my program icon how will i get the link of my icon inside misc folder?
I'm trying to copy files to the CD Drive using My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile. I use the FolderBrowserDialog for my destination and add the filename at the end. When I try this on the Hard Drive and also a flash drive, it works just fine, but when I try this on a CD Drive, I get the following message: Could not find part of the path 'E:'. Hw to copy movie files to CD Drive.
I try to move files with code below from [URL]...Public Function TransferFile(ByVal originalFile As String, ByVal destinationFile As String, ByVal userName As String, ByVal password As String) As String
Try Dim xDoc As New XmlDocument xDoc.Load("ftp://XXXX:XXXXXX@ftp.someaddress.com/subfolder/subfolder/subfolder/file.xml")
[Code]...
I'm getting the error: "The given path's format is not supported".
I read the xml file no problems and make the changes as well. I have double checked that. When attempting to save the xml is when the error occurs. the xml file has 50k lines in it, and as the code suggets, it is hosted on an ftp server.
IS claims that permissions are 777. Also, I tried the same code on a file on my local drive, instead of the ftp address, and it worked perfectly.
Well now i have an issue which is pointing in the use of "path's" physical and network.I have a SQL server on a Server machine and i have a desktop machine used as client.I'm runing from my client machine a stored procedure in order to add a streaming data base.But also before i run this procedure i run another one which prepare the desired "path", this procedure takes:
myPath="\ServerSharedFolderSQL
in order to run the first procedure i have to turn myPath in each physical name:
myPath="DriveLetter:PublicWorkFilesSQL"
Now my Issue is how i will have the physical path, which is build it on the server and which it's from very difficult (to imposible) to know it? Basically i need a function which will return me the physical path, which the implementation it's not knowing to me. My developing environment is vb.net 2010?
I keep getting the annoying error for the following
Dim user As String user = Environ$("USERPROFILE") My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile _ ("http://www.minecraftservers.comyr.com/WorldBackup 1.0.0.4.zip", _ "C:Users" & user & "Desktop")
I have done a windows application VB.NET with access Database. while working on it, i had the database path Private ConStr As String = "Provider= Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= C:LBCvehicles.mdb;Persist Security Info=True"..But since i wanted to deploy this project and install it on another pc i dint want the DB file to stay on C so i added a new folder to my project "DB" and added to it the access file.Private ConStr As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= .DBLBCvehicles.mdb;Persist Security Info=True" and i tried it before deployment everything worked fine.I deployed the application and when running the setup file i got the following error :"The folder path'.' contains an invalid character"
I have created an application which uses an sql server connection as its datasource. The problem I'm having is that the application needs to work on computer that has no network connection. How Can i change the datasource so that on runtime it can work off a machine that is not connected to a network? The datasource from the sql connection only contains one table with no data. It only needs to be updated with a target folder that can be changed to any location on any computer already written in the code.
The connection string suddenly stands as: Dim MyConnectionString As String = "Data Source=MY-PC;Initial Catalog=ImageLocs;User Id=test;Password=test;Pooling=False"
I have an application in vb.net that runs over a network. Actually shortcut of the exe file is shared over LAN, so databases remain on one computer where the application has been installed. Everything works great except one thing. The logo of this application is saved in a database, that reports can pick to load picture. The logo file is chosen by the user, using OpenFileDialog and then saved in database. It is saved like D: Picturesfilename. jpg When I run the application from network (using shortcut that we have made to the main exe file), it given error on D:Picturesfilename.jpg because this doe not exits in the system that is running the shortcut. How to save the logo path in a way that it always finds it in application directory, when run over the network.
In my app I have a dialog in which the user can select a database backup location. If want to warn the user if the location he/she selected is "probably not secure".[code]...
How can I get this kind of info about a selected folder? I know about the DriveInfo class, but it only handles drive letter, not UNC
I am using some like following code to get UNC path of drive letter. Dim query As New System.Management.ObjectQuery("select * from Win32_LogicalDisk") Using searcher As New System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher(Query) 'loops for all drives on system For Each Mgmt As System.Management.ManagementObject In searcher.Get()
And it was working but now it is giving error. Below is error with stack trace {"Specified cast is not valid."} at System.Management.ThreadDispatch.Start() at System.Management.ManagementScope.Initialize() at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Initialize() at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Get()
I also want to know alternative way to get unc path of drive that is also not depend on windows API. As there is a class driveinfo to get all drives (including network) on system. Is there any class that also provide complete or unc path information of Drive.
I have created a login form that asks the user for the username and password fr authentication.Inspite of storing the username and the password in a database,can we store the same in a xml file and retrieve the data at the authentication time from the xml file?Is there any advantage/disadvantage of using the xml file in this particular case rather than using a database to store the username and the password?
I want to get the default printer name with the network path. Because i am using the network printer as a default printer. So i need this in VB.NET or C#.Net.
I have these robots. The maker of the robots (Sankyo) wrote some ActiveX controls. Some work, some don't. There is absolutely no support on the ActiveX from Sankyo or anybody else. I think except for parts and service Sankyo is out of the robotics business in the US.The examples are in VB6. Here is one example of one that does not work:
GetPosition(taskSpec As Long, coordType As Long, posArray As Variant) Dim vPoints(3) As Single SRSync.GetPosition 1, 1, vPoints
The error I get is a cryptic hex code that I can't find anything on. If I try the exact code above in VB6 I get a message that says that the vPoints variable is not the right kind of array. I have tried all kinds of data structures in both vb6 and vb.net including just a simple object. I suspect that the data is coming back in some kind of structure that makes vb puke.I have read about marshaling but an still confused. In this case I don't understand the underlying mechanics of how the returned stream of data gets converted into the variable "posArray".I am thinking that if I could just get a look at what is being returned then I could create some kind of code that could chop it up and make it usable.
We are getting a new server and we already have a Z: drive mapped, and we want to use the same letter and just change the path without touching all machines. I am looking for a simple VBscript to do that. I have one that will remove and one that will add, but I need to have on script.
I have a VB 6.0 code that creates file/directory on given path. If the path is local or a mapped drive then it's working fine but if I am having a network path like \netpathputfileshere" then it is not working. If I mapped "\netpathputfileshere" to some x: drive on local then it will work fine BUT I need not mapped this path. So is there any way to do this directly on network path. I get error for ChDrive "\netpathpullfileshere"
I'm building an application which require to use Directory.Exists on a network share UNC path. I know how to use that function, and how to implement it in my code, it's working perfecty locally.
Here my setup: - VS2003 - .NET 1.1 - It's an Outlook Add-In
Here the code : Dim realpath as string = "\myserverfolder$subfolder" Impersonation.ImpersonateUser("admin", "DOMAIN", "adminpass") Dim isDirExist As Boolean = Directory.Exists(realpath) If isDirExist = False Then Directory.CreateDirectory(realpath) End If Impersonation.undoImpersonation()
If I build this code, and register it in Outlook with my personnal account (admin), it's working fine, I receive true. If I build this same code, an register it in the Outlook of a normal employee (user only), it's always returning FALSE, no matter if the directory exist or not. The share is set to everyone allow, and I tried giving everyone access to the ACL, and it's the same result.
I was expecting this to be easy but it seems that it is not... all I want to do is loop through all drives on a computer and if the drive is a network drive then get the UNC path that this network drive maps to. Simples. I was expecting to just do this:
vb.net For Each drv In IO.DriveInfo.GetDrives() If drv.DriveType = IO.DriveType.Network Then MessageBox.Show(drv.RootDirectory.ToString) End If Next
I've downloaded the MSDN "101 VB Samples" from the MS site and I'm getting an error that reads "The project type is not supported by this installation". I can open the other files that I've tried (about a dozen in other folders), so I'm wondering if it is something specific with the VSTO files, or something about my VB setup.
I thought at first it was a problem with the path where the file is sitting, but even moving it from C:Documents and Settings[my name]My DocumentsMSDN to C: didn't work...Edit: I have also tried opening in notepad and converting the file to UTF-8, changing the File Association from MS Visual Studio version selector to devenv.exe, and running devenv /setup at the command prompt, all with no luck (all these ideas were found through Googling the error message....).
Lets say that Computer 2 connects to an external server. How can that server get the FULL path of the address, not only the IP of the first router?(of course in vb.net)
I get an error : The ReadElementContentAsString method is not supported on node type None.trying to parse an xml string from the server, this is my code
Dim reader As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(New StringReader(sTempUrl)) reader.ReadToFollowing("result") Dim strResult As String = reader.ReadElementContentAsString()
Where can I get the paths for "My Network Places" and "Recycle Bin"? Environment.SpecialFolder contains the following entries but not "My Network Places" and "Recycle Bin":
