VS 2005 : Old ActiveX Control No Longer Supported?

Jun 10, 2011

I have these robots. The maker of the robots (Sankyo) wrote some ActiveX controls. Some work, some don't. There is absolutely no support on the ActiveX from Sankyo or anybody else. I think except for parts and service Sankyo is out of the robotics business in the US.The examples are in VB6. Here is one example of one that does not work:

GetPosition(taskSpec As Long, coordType As Long, posArray As Variant)
Dim vPoints(3) As Single
SRSync.GetPosition 1, 1, vPoints

The error I get is a cryptic hex code that I can't find anything on. If I try the exact code above in VB6 I get a message that says that the vPoints variable is not the right kind of array. I have tried all kinds of data structures in both vb6 and vb.net including just a simple object. I suspect that the data is coming back in some kind of structure that makes vb puke.I have read about marshaling but an still confused. In this case I don't understand the underlying mechanics of how the returned stream of data gets converted into the variable "posArray".I am thinking that if I could just get a look at what is being returned then I could create some kind of code that could chop it up and make it usable.

I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. Sub No Longer Assocated With Control

Apr 28, 2012

I have run into a small little annoyance while writing a program. I have a bunch of controls on the form and while trying to figure something else out they all got parented to another control, using undo I unparented them from that control however now when the control is clicked the code that is in the sub for them does not run at all. If I double click the control it generated an entirely new sub with a number i.e. what was "Private Sub NumericUpDown1_Value Changed" becomes "Private Sub NumericUpDown1_ValueChanged_1".Near as I can figure the subs with the code are no longer associated with the controls. Is there a quick way of fixing this or am I stuck copy and pasting the code from each sub into a newly generated one?

VB6 Control - .NET No Longer Supports DDE

Jan 26, 2010

I know .NET no longer supports DDE however unfortunately most "Finance" related programs (ie, charting and data vendors) use DDE to tie into their data. (Ie, esignal, Marktfeed etc). I've been toying around with NDDE however I'm having a hard time implementing it...unless I'm just making 1 request then it's fine. My question is would it be possible to take VB6 Label Control since it has the "Linkmode, LinkTopic, LinkItem, Label_Change" Properties/Methods and events in it....and create something like DDELabel.dll via Activex control project then use that as part of VB.net?

I tried doing it via the Control Wizard then using it in .NET however I know for a fact I'm not doing it right. Perhaps if someone much more competent could attempt it see if it does give the DDE functionality when used in .NET they can point me in the right direction...

[2005] Cannot Create ActiveX Component?

Mar 12, 2009

I have a DLL that utilizes the Redemption Outlook Library. This is included in the DLL's Reference on the Project Properties Tab. This is a DLL that I wrote and one of its newest features is its ability to send an email. This DLL is called by a Click-Once program that has a GUI. When the program called the DLL and at the point of sending the email....I receive the "Cannot create ActiveX Component" error. So, in the Click-Once application, I also referenced the Redemption Outlook Library thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't. The Click-Once app resides on a server with other Click-Once apps. In it's irectory structure the DLL is also present and now....so is the Redemption Outlook Library DLL. I'm all out of ideas. Here is the code that sends the emails below.

Private Sub SendEmailToUser()
Try
Dim Application = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")

VS 2005 : Error : The Project Type Is Not Supported By This Installation

Jul 15, 2010

I've downloaded the MSDN "101 VB Samples" from the MS site and I'm getting an error that reads "The project type is not supported by this installation". I can open the other files that I've tried (about a dozen in other folders), so I'm wondering if it is something specific with the VSTO files, or something about my VB setup.

I thought at first it was a problem with the path where the file is sitting, but even moving it from C:Documents and Settings[my name]My DocumentsMSDN to C: didn't work...Edit: I have also tried opening in notepad and converting the file to UTF-8, changing the File Association from MS Visual Studio version selector to devenv.exe, and running devenv /setup at the command prompt, all with no luck (all these ideas were found through Googling the error message....).

ActiveX Control Won't Start?

Apr 27, 2009

I created an ActiveX Control in ATL, which I can succesfully use in for instance Internet Explorer. When I want to put that object in a VB.NET (2003) app, I get some problems.

First I 'Import' the control, using Visual Studio, so there are COM Interop DLLs created. Then I insert the control in the toolbox and drag/drop on a form. The control is succesfully created.

However, when I run the VBApp, it crashes. The debugger tells me that it gets a 'Class Not Registered' error.

Same when I create a pushbutton and create the object manually:

Code:
Dim AxQuest3DCtrl As Object
AxQuest3DCtrl = CreateObject("MyControl.MyCtrl.1") //crashes here
If AxQuest3DCtrl Is Nothing Then

I did a bit of googling and found that SQLDMO should be in a SQLDMO.dll. I've got that DLL referenced in my project but it is still failing.

Migrate A VB6 ActiveX Control To .net?

Jul 9, 2009

I have a legacy VB6 ActiveX control used in IE to provide control of a parallel-port device from a browser application. I wrote this thing about five years ago; It's a pretty simple control, and it doesn't require a lot of maintenance. However, I've noticed that running the VB6 tools is becoming more and more painful over time, so I'm looking at the possibility of migrating this code to VB.net 2008.This thing is super-simple. It implements IObjectSafety and exposes a single public method, which we call using Javascript. The control has no UI other than a single box with a caption that displays its name and version number-- useful for troubleshooting deployment issues.

How would I create the equivalent in .net? Am I creating an applet? Or a .net Assembly? Any gotchas to look for as I try to make this transition?(I should make it clear here that I'm not either a VB6 programmer or a .net developer-- I've dabbled in this stuff but it isn't my area of expertise, so go easy on me).

MS WebBrowser ActiveX Control?

Is there a more direct, object-specific way to hide the browser's toolbars other than the SendKeys method?

VS 2005 Installing And Using Older ActiveX Controls

Jun 6, 2011

I have some work I need to do with some older ActiveX controls. When I install the controls (outside of Visual Studio) I get an error message:

Quote:

The procedure entry point SRWriteStringLocalCmd could not be located in the dynamic link library SankyoMP.dll

Doing a little research I get a whole bunch of different answers. Microsoft says that this is because it was written for an older version of Windows (2000 or before, I am using XP) and to contact the vendor. The vendor is out of business.

Does anybody know of a way to install and use this older ActiveX control in VB.net/Visual Studio 2005?

ActiveX Control (.ocx) Behavior At Runtime?

Dec 31, 2009

I am developing an application in Visual Basic under Visual Studio 2008 Professional. As part of this application I am using a third-party ActiveX control (.ocx file). After building the installer (.msi file) using the deployment tools in Visual Studio, I tested it on a clean system. The install appeared to run successfully--folders are created, files are copied, and the .ocx is registered. However, when I tried to run the application I received an error telling me "You must have a license to use this ActiveX control." This would be expected on the development machine, but should not happen on the client system, i.e., in the runtime environment.

On previous builds of the application, I did not receive this error. Besides updates to the application itself (the part I created, that is), I was using NSIS to create the installer, rather than the tools in Visual Studio. The application cannot run without the .ocx in question, so this error is a show-stopper.

does some one have any idea how to add flash comntrol as we used to do in earlier versions?
