View 2 RepliesI'm trying to copy files to the CD Drive using My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile. I use the FolderBrowserDialog for my destination and add the filename at the end. When I try this on the Hard Drive and also a flash drive, it works just fine, but when I try this on a CD Drive, I get the following message: Could not find part of the path 'E:'. Hw to copy movie files to CD Drive.

I'm creating window application with VB.NET and flatfiles.the problem is how do i store the connection string in the app.config file that include the application.startup path?

View 1 Repliesi have been looking over the msdn article to translate an application over here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...(v=vs.80).aspx this makes sense to include resource files for each language, giving each resource the file naming convention e.g de-DE for german and letting the system pull the correct resource string through based on the regional system settings. I can see how this will work for strings such as message boxes the article states I need a resource file for each language. all variables will be the same accross all resources, I just need to store the translated string against the correct variable.
I have a question about designer contents I have several forms I've used the form designer to set the forms text and controls text.I can see that a form has a language property that you can set and translate the strings from the designer. my understanding is that a resource file will be generated per form per language changing the language property of the form.
my question is can the above msdn article be mixed with forms designer language method? if so, will this be too many resource files?What is the best practice for application translation?
I am using a seperate installer for my program and in the Release folder I have several files. I was wondering based on this list, which ones I need to include. Here are the extensions of all the files:

how i can include files like : .exe .rar .zip .7z in my project and how to make when i push some button for example to download the selected file.
I will give example: I have put alot files in the project and now the test will be with "Test.exe"In my Form1 i got 1 textbox and 1 button and 1 checkbox (or radiobutton)In the textbox is putted the name of the file "Test.exe" and after him has 1 radiobutton for checking that i selected this one to download to the computer and when i press the button to download the file in a popup displayed form (to display new form with the compression progcess - how much percentes is downloaded).
I am writing a program in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2010 to edit web pages that allows the user to download, edit and then upload HTML files.
To download I use:
My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile(New Uri(strSiteFileName), strLocalWebSiteFolder & strFileName, "", "", False, 100000, True)
My problem is that if the file being downloaded is an HTML file that includes a <!-- #include file = [filename] --> line then rather than just downloading, the file that is downloaded and saved actually includes the 'include' file's text, not the line to include the file. I just want to download the file including the reference line.
For example
if a file named 'footer.html' is simply one line as follows:
<p>This is the footer</p>
and a second file named 'index.html' is as follows:
<html>
<body>
<p>This is the main part of the file</p>
[Code].....
Is this a feature or am I missing something? All I want is the basic 'index.html' file to be downloaded.
Is there a way that I can include code or other files from other projects WITHOUT referencing them? I am trying to combine our projects into 1 EXE without DLLs. I do not want to use a self extracting EXE either. Let me know if there is a way to do it similar to the C++ #Include.

Some of the programs I am writing make extensive use of External files (saved games, data, item lists, etc.) I could use an easy way to get these files to ride allong during deployment (cd mostly). adding them to the resources works for some static pictures, but custom structures into lists of info to read and write from are beond that features abilities, same with the settings feature. I have found in other help referance to "MageUI.exe" so is downloading a .net SDK my solution or is there a better trick I can use?
View 2 Replies My program I wrote is using Outlook 12.0 lib for Outlook 2007. I have referenced this in the project. This exe will only be installed on computers that has Outlook 2007 on it. So with this being the case, do I need to bother including any of the lib files? Or just my exe?I have this in my form:
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Imports System.Reflection
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Text
[code]....
So I assume the Interop is all part of the object lib? I know this sounds crazy but I tried coding it using late-binding with many examples but just had too many problems. So I'm going to make three different exe's for versions 2003, 2007 and 2010.
I have a software package with a bunch of libraries and header files that I am trying to use in a VB.net application. The software help file states the following: The MIL DVD includes MIL libraries that support the Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003/2005/2008 (unmanaged) compiler under Windows Vista/XP. The DVD also includes ActiveMIL ActiveX controls for Microsoft Visual Basic .NET 2003/2005/2008, Microsoft Visual C# .NET 2003/2005/2008, and Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003/2005/2008 RAD tools.
To compile a MIL application program, you must include the mil.h header file, in addition to the required standard C include files. After you have compiled your application program, you will have to link it with the appropriate libraries or import libraries for your operating system, compiler, and target board.

I have a form with two listboxes. The user selected the directory using a FolderBrowserDialog1 then my program searches the directory and displays a list of files. They them select the files they want to store under a project name and the names are placed in a database. My problem is it stores the mapped file path not the network path. (ie N:examples estfile.txt I need \myserverexamples estfiles.txt) That is because the person that reads this database may not have their network drives mapped to the same letters.

View 2 RepliesI need to get the 64 bit program files directory and I'd rather not hard code it. When dealing with the 32 bit folder, I can just easily use this: Environment.SpecialFolder.ProgramFiles.I couldn't find a way to target the 64 bit folder without hard coding the path. At the moment, I'm getting the drive letter of the OS drive and concatenating it with "Program Files.
View 5 RepliesI created a VB.NET Winforms app a while ago that printed drawings. The way it did this was to copy files from a network share to the folder for a plotter's que. This plotter would automatically just print anything that was dropped into this folder, which was specified with a path like \Btltmkeng_plt_q. I would do this by using the System.IO.File.Copy method. This worked well, until the company switched to a new printer. When my app copies the file, the printer only prints blank pages.
However, if I open two Windows Explorer apps, and manually drag the file from the network folder to the printer que folder, it works! This proves that the printer can handle these files if they are properly copied. Therefore, I was wondering if there were "alternate" methods for copying files in VB. I tried using the My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile method, but that just error out saying it could not find the target folder. Is there another method that more closely resembles what happens when files are copied using Windows Explorer?
We have an app that needs to access network resources. It's written in VB.Net. The application can't access the files on another server via a UNC path. How can we find out what user the application is truly running as and how can it be changed? We tried this KB from Microsoft... but it didn't work.
View 1 RepliesI was doing window services where I'm generating txt files in target path based on some details from a database. I was getting same file name in the place of sec variation required so that I can avoid duplicates over there.
Code:
using (transactionscope scope = new transactionscope ) {
string nowtime = datetime.now.today.tostring(HHMMss) // it was working fine
}
File should be generates by specific file naming convention !! ex:hhmmss >>> no millisecond.
Is there a way to write a list of all paths and file names of currently open files. The best I can do is use the System.Diagnostics.Process class to grab the processes of the applications in which I am interested and then get the file name from the main window title for each process. There is no way to get the path for these files, however, with this approach.
View 5 RepliesI have created a sub folder (named 'Data') under my project through the solution explorer. I also have created a text file (data.txt) inside the new sub folder. This text file is used to store information such as settings and connections.
I can check the file using the full path. However, I want to avoid errors such as moving the project folder to a different location. Is there anyway to check using a relative path? File.Exists("~Datadata.txt")
Or is it better to create it under Application.StartupPath?

I have a program where the users generally use UNC paths. For a textbox where they type in a new path to work with, I'd like to be able to make it easy for them by having a button to fire off a FolderBrowserDialog so they can just navigate to it. Alas, I cannot seem to feed it a UNC path as a starting point.
