Recently I created one windows form application and also created setup project using VS2008.My application works with external software, which needs to be available on the PC.I want to bundle this external application installer in my installer, so that I can check if it is already installed and if not then install it and then install my application.I figured out how to work with pre-requisites that Setup project identifies such as .net framework?

I have a problem when creating installer for my project. My project is utilizing Powerpacks 10 and will be deployed on XP machines. These machines do not have internet connection. When I create the installer, can I include the Powerpacks 10 to be installed offline? Currently I have no idea to make the installer to include the powerpacks and install it offline - it always downloads the required files from internet.I looked it up on Microsoft websites and they only offer Powerpacks 3.

I have built a project using VS 2010 and I have 2 reports I am creating within the project. While in VS2010, I can debug the program and the reports work perfectly. Now I have come to the point where I want to publish my project and install it on a machine that my program will be used on. I tried 'Publishing' my project and running the 'Setup' file on the other computer and I get the following error: Unable to install or run the application. The application requires
that assembly CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.CommonObjectModel
Version 13.0.2000.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC)
first. Please Contact your System Administrator.
Doing some research, I have found out that you can manually change the GAC or have Windows Installer fix it for you. To be honest, I don't know where the GAC is or how to modify it. My ideal solution would be to figure out how to setup Windows Installer to fix the GAC and configure Crystal reports however to get my project to run on a basic machine. setup Windows Installer to install the appropriate Crystal Reports Engine so my project will work??

My program I wrote is using Outlook 12.0 lib for Outlook 2007. I have referenced this in the project. This exe will only be installed on computers that has Outlook 2007 on it. So with this being the case, do I need to bother including any of the lib files? Or just my exe?I have this in my form:
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Imports System.Reflection
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Text
[code]....
So I assume the Interop is all part of the object lib? I know this sounds crazy but I tried coding it using late-binding with many examples but just had too many problems. So I'm going to make three different exe's for versions 2003, 2007 and 2010.

I am trying to create an install for my application that I have just created using visual basic express. I want to be able to tell it to put files in certain locations and create my own installer. For example I want to make a license page with a read me on the installer. From what I understand the clickonce technology is what comes with express editions and you cannot do it with them. Is there an alternative to being able to accomplish what I want to do without having to purchase the full version of visual studio?

I am working the first time now with windows installer. I made an application consisting multiple programs and one of them needs a shortcut to the user startup folder. Therefore I selected in the Installers file editor the special folder 'Users startup folder' and put there the shortcut to the program.
But when I install the programs the shortcut is placed in the common startup folder and not in the users startup folder

here is the poblem after installing the program only users can only use the program if they are logged as admin can use the progam. like writing to the database. i either need to find out how to change the users
to have write access during install or great a dll and add it to the install and as the program starts it checks the file and folder access of the users. if the access does not have write enabled then it runs the dll to fix it. not having any code posted i really do not have any idea how to do this. oh yes the short verision is if the program is install as an administritor only a user that have administritor access can write to the database.

i have been looking over the msdn article to translate an application over here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...(v=vs.80).aspx this makes sense to include resource files for each language, giving each resource the file naming convention e.g de-DE for german and letting the system pull the correct resource string through based on the regional system settings. I can see how this will work for strings such as message boxes the article states I need a resource file for each language. all variables will be the same accross all resources, I just need to store the translated string against the correct variable.
I have a question about designer contents I have several forms I've used the form designer to set the forms text and controls text.I can see that a form has a language property that you can set and translate the strings from the designer. my understanding is that a resource file will be generated per form per language changing the language property of the form.
my question is can the above msdn article be mixed with forms designer language method? if so, will this be too many resource files? What is the best practice for application translation?

I am writing a program in VB.NET in Visual Studio 2010 to edit web pages that allows the user to download, edit and then upload HTML files.
To download I use:
My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile(New Uri(strSiteFileName), strLocalWebSiteFolder & strFileName, "", "", False, 100000, True)
My problem is that if the file being downloaded is an HTML file that includes a <!-- #include file = [filename] --> line then rather than just downloading, the file that is downloaded and saved actually includes the 'include' file's text, not the line to include the file. I just want to download the file including the reference line.
For example
if a file named 'footer.html' is simply one line as follows:
<p>This is the footer</p>
and a second file named 'index.html' is as follows:
<html>
<body>
<p>This is the main part of the file</p>
[Code].....
Is this a feature or am I missing something? All I want is the basic 'index.html' file to be downloaded.

Is there a way that I can include code or other files from other projects WITHOUT referencing them? I am trying to combine our projects into 1 EXE without DLLs. I do not want to use a self extracting EXE either. Let me know if there is a way to do it similar to the C++ #Include.

I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. Some of the programs I am writing make extensive use of External files (saved games, data, item lists, etc.) I could use an easy way to get these files to ride allong during deployment (cd mostly). adding them to the resources works for some static pictures, but custom structures into lists of info to read and write from are beond that features abilities, same with the settings feature. I have found in other help referance to "MageUI.exe" so is downloading a .net SDK my solution or is there a better trick I can use?

I'm currently developing an application for a POS Terminal using VB.net. Our project is approaching the last stage of development and I've been tasked to create 2 installers. 1 for Initial Installation, and the other for upgrade installation.
The project is composed of several elements. These are:
1. The application executable
2. Common DLLs that we developed
3. some resources (.resx and XML)
The requirement for the upgrade installer is that only those files with modification should be installed. (i.e. if only the xml or resx files are modified those are the only items that will be reinstalled, since the size of the upgrade installer is a consideration so we cannot reinstall everything).
I'm using Visual Studio 2005 for my deployment project but I'm a bit confused about how to set the properties of each file in such a way that during the upgrade, only the files that were modified would be updated and the rest of the files will not be removed since I'm setting RemovePreviousVersion property to True. I have a hunch that I need to do something with the custom action but I haven't been able to figure it out. The upgrade installer setup is almost the same as the initial installer except that all files are excluded.I tried to acquire a copy of Phil Wilson's book (The definitive guide to Windows Installer) but its not available in our local bookstore and it would take too long to order it.
Basically while tinkering with the settings/properties there are instances where the dll was not updated and there are also times when the application exe was removed.
I already verified that the Product code is the same for both installers and that I'm sure that the version number is being incremented for each upgrade.
If I will be redoing both installers from scratch, how should I go about it?
I'm also confused about the Condition property and the transitive property.

In the past I used VB6 to create my apps and used Wise Installer (v9) to create the install package. It was easy because it would read my VB app and automatically setup the file for me. All I had to do was add the numerous other associated files and I was done. Obviously that program is a bit outdated and does not (to my knowledge) have the same capability with a .NET project. Is there any installer out there that does have that capability and does not cost an arm and a leg?

I am currently in the process of creating a simple installer to copy files that come with my program and move them into another directory (a game, which I modded, I decided to create an installer to make it easier for people to install). However, I am looking around and trying to find out if it's possible to compile the files into one .EXE instead of a .EXE and a folder containing the files. Whether VS 2008 can do this, I don't know. If it doesn't, is there another program which can compress it into a standalone .EXE?

I have written a program in Visual Basic 10 and all is well. I have published it and have been burning the result to a cd and installed it on various computers, however it is the click once app, which has been fine till now. What I need to do now is to have the program install the .exe file and associated files (non click once app) to a specific drive on a computer or network computer. I have searched the net for instructions on how to initiate the windows installer and have failed. is there a program that you can select the source files then point to the installation folder tell it to go and an installation package gets made that I can burn to disk.

I have a MS Visual Studio .NET project created. I also went through the basic steps to add a setup project which created both an .MSI and a setup.exe file under the "Release" folder within the Debug folder. When I ran the setup.exe it installed the website on my http:localhost/Program/default.aspx which is fine and all..
My only problem is that the website does not have some of the customized icons that should be displayed, some of the other files are also missing such as "filename.txt" found in the main directory of my program used for specific calculations. I guess my two questions are:How do I add "All" the files inside my project to the .MSI?? The Website works fine, but its missing some files.
My second question, what if I "Remove" the program? Will it delete all directories, even files manually added to some folders AFTER the installation? For example: Lets say that my website contains a folder called "Data" which gathers data for specific purposes. The "Data" folder is often changed to replace outdated "Data", so when I need to make an update to the program the "Data" should not be removed, my 'client' should be able to just Add/Remove the program to update the program but all the other files should remain unchanged.

I have a problem here. I want to distribute .net framework and windows installer along with my app installation file. The questions:1. Is it legal? Windows installer, yes it is legal. I don't know about .net framework 3.52. Which folder do I have to put the files? I tried the publish, debug, and root folder of the application, none works. I select download from the same location of my application in clickonce.

I've decided to go with a Windows Installer (Setup Project) in VS Prof, rather than ClickOnce,I've added this project to my main project, and have right clicked and selected 'View -> Launch Conditions', it requires the .netframework 3.5.21022...
But I've created the installer project for .NET 2.0 framework, is this going to stop someone from installing the project without .NET framework 3/3.5?EDIT: I've found under the properties of that installer project, that .NET framework 3.5 and Windows Installer 3.1 was selected as a prerequisite, unchecked those, and checked .NET Framework 2.0, however the version under the launch condition .NET Framework is still 3.5, it should be 2.0
