Forms :: Getting The Networks Path To Files?

I have a form with two listboxes. The user selected the directory using a FolderBrowserDialog1 then my program searches the directory and displays a list of files. They them select the files they want to store under a project name and the names are placed in a database. My problem is it stores the mapped file path not the network path. (ie N:examples estfile.txt I need \myserverexamples estfiles.txt) That is because the person that reads this database may not have their network drives mapped to the same letters.

I have a matrix for example (10 x 10) which represents 10 nodes. The matrix called MyMat(9,9) The rows of this matrix represent the source node (From Node) and the columns represents target node (To Node). It has 14 links which are randomly distributed. The non zero values represent the connections between nodes.

I am working on a video chat program and I have almost everything working on my network I now need to figure out how to establish comunication between two clients from diffrent networks without having a middle person to switch each meassage to each other.
To clarify: I belive that I need to have a server running that each client when they start up the program will login to the server handing thier external ipaddress and port forward to get to each respective client, this will be stored in a SQL database (I know how to add the data just not hwo to get it from the source)
Then the server would brodcast the clients name to anyone that is authorized to know (currently everyone) and has there data stored on the server.Finnaly when the client shouts down it sends out the logging-off comand and deletes the adressing information from the server.The client programs will be windows form applications that use the tcpclient connection to send text meassage And the server application will be I hope a webapp.

I need test data for a IP Subnet calculator I have developed. I have tested some obvious scenarios, and all seems good, but the person developing can often be the wrong person to test.
The calculator can do one of two things:
1 - Given an existing network and CIDR (mask), and a new CIDR it will create a number of networks with the appropriate number of hosts.
2 - Given an existing network and CIDR (mask), and a list of c,h, (c = count, h=number of hosts) it will create the networks.

I am using VB 2008 and doing the project on office 2007. I've created a Ribbon (Visual Designer) and put a button. Now thats all I've done. I'm still researching on how to make it so that when I press the button , a box will appear and at the side of the box will be something like" Search, Stop, Select, Cancel" buttons the box will be a container where when search is pressed, the wireless/LAN connections will be displayed.

I'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.

I wrote windows app to upload files to different FTP sites by picking the files from different folders.A log is displayed by appending text to the textbox at every step.Textbox is ReadOnly.
Issue:When app is loading a bf file to FTP and if user tries to scroll the textbox,the form is hanging and going to Not Responding.?

I need to get the 64 bit program files directory and I'd rather not hard code it. When dealing with the 32 bit folder, I can just easily use this: Environment.SpecialFolder.ProgramFiles.I couldn't find a way to target the 64 bit folder without hard coding the path. At the moment, I'm getting the drive letter of the OS drive and concatenating it with "Program Files.

I created a VB.NET Winforms app a while ago that printed drawings. The way it did this was to copy files from a network share to the folder for a plotter's que. This plotter would automatically just print anything that was dropped into this folder, which was specified with a path like \Btltmkeng_plt_q. I would do this by using the System.IO.File.Copy method. This worked well, until the company switched to a new printer. When my app copies the file, the printer only prints blank pages.
However, if I open two Windows Explorer apps, and manually drag the file from the network folder to the printer que folder, it works! This proves that the printer can handle these files if they are properly copied. Therefore, I was wondering if there were "alternate" methods for copying files in VB. I tried using the My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile method, but that just error out saying it could not find the target folder. Is there another method that more closely resembles what happens when files are copied using Windows Explorer?

We have an app that needs to access network resources. It's written in VB.Net. The application can't access the files on another server via a UNC path. How can we find out what user the application is truly running as and how can it be changed? We tried this KB from Microsoft... but it didn't work.

I was doing window services where I'm generating txt files in target path based on some details from a database. I was getting same file name in the place of sec variation required so that I can avoid duplicates over there.

Is there a way to write a list of all paths and file names of currently open files. The best I can do is use the System.Diagnostics.Process class to grab the processes of the applications in which I am interested and then get the file name from the main window title for each process. There is no way to get the path for these files, however, with this approach.

I have created a sub folder (named 'Data') under my project through the solution explorer. I also have created a text file (data.txt) inside the new sub folder. This text file is used to store information such as settings and connections.
I can check the file using the full path. However, I want to avoid errors such as moving the project folder to a different location. Is there anyway to check using a relative path? File.Exists("~Datadata.txt")
Or is it better to create it under Application.StartupPath?

But when I package the app the directory is going to change to C:Program FilesApp Name by default. The problem arises if the user decides to create an alternate directory. I'm trying to copy files to the CD Drive using My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile. I use the FolderBrowserDialog for my destination and add the filename at the end. When I try this on the Hard Drive and also a flash drive, it works just fine, but when I try this on a CD Drive, I get the following message: Could not find part of the path 'E:'. Hw to copy movie files to CD Drive.

i added a folder in my project by using the solution explorer. now i want to include a couple of images there that i can use as a default image for my app. in my app i have a picture box which will:show a 'default pic' if the person doesnt have a picture yet. show an 'error pic' if the picture is not found.show the persons image located in the server.

I'm just testing things and seeing if I can get things working and if I can then I want to try and develop this into something more. So far its just a simple button1 finds all files with extension of .mp3 in C: and displays all the findings in a listbox. I am currently trying to create a DLL for use with a RESTful api. The only issue I have is that so that this DLL can be used in a service or a program without a GUI, so I can't use "Imports System.Drawing.Imaging" as this requires a form. i have a win app in vb2005 but when i want to create a data-source to connect with my database i got this error: The file \CATV-ANTIVIRUSdata|CLINICA_Data.mdf is on a network path that is not supported for database files.
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file \CATV-ANTIVIRUSdataCLINICA_Data.mdf failed. a database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. i need the datasource to start creating datareports but i don't know how to resolve this problem before.
