Accessing User Inputs In Textboxes Created At Runtime?
Jul 13, 2009
I have created a page that creates a number textboxes at runtime depending on the result of a database query, (ie one textbox per row in query result). My problem is that I can't for the life of me work out how on earth to access the text from the textbox that is posted back to the server by the user when they press submit.

I'm creating an array of textboxes using this code, (x number of textboxes)
'Quantity textboxes
ReDim QuantityTextBoxes(x)
QuantityTextBoxes(x - 1) = New TextBox()
[Code]....
I need to sum the values of each textbox, but only if there is a value in it. I have error checking elsewhere so that isn't the issue. It keeps giving me an error saying "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Is it possible to have a Textbox on a form that when the user inputs data, ( during Runtime )that data remains in the Textbox for good and the Textbox then becomes read only ? Is it also possible to make it so that the CD with the programme on, is in the PC when the programme is being used. Perhaps writing the Textbox data back onto the CD ?

i have created a simple form which takes some input from the user. Now, I want that the input should be saved to my harddisk and can be seen later as well. Can you please tell me how to save the inputs as a record on my harddisk.
I mean the first time the form appears, it has four options. All the four options will be a record. The next time the form is re-loaded, then the same four fields will have data for someother client. It should be saved as another user.

I have several text boxes which a user is supposed to input a numeric value and the program will use an array to verify whether the input in each text box falls within the numeric range allowed for that text box. So one text box will only accept number 3-7 and i'm supposed to create an array that will verify the input in that text box falls within that range. Personally, I would just do:
Dim intInput1 as Integer
intInput1 = CInt(txtInput1.Text)
If intInput1 >= 3 or <= 7 Then
messagebox.show("Input Verified")
Else
messagebox.show("Input must be a numeric value between 3 and 7")
End If
But this isn't what the assignment asks.

It' s value is 1 to 10 and by each step it adds 2 new TextBoxes (named TBC11i and TBC12i, i=1-10). My current project involves displaying questions/answers from two different databases to be used to compare values and make judgements. The number of questions, choices, and answers is all variable. Thus I am attempting to create labels dynamically to show the information on the screen and create textboxes to leave comments. My problem is not knowing how to then access these lables, since I can't code in to use "label_comments" & (i) as it doesn't exist (at least, I can't get it to work).
First, my code for creating and displaying the information:
db_connection = New SqlConnection(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("ConnectionStringMerrill3"))
db_connection.Open()

I am building a program where all the inputs (10) required from the user are asked on one form. Since it is not possible to let fields blank on the database, I would like to know how can I build an 'IF' saying that if all fields are full, then the database CAN save all the input. So that if there are any field blank, it won't save. I just dont know how to do the database condition. Thats all.

I'm currently trying to improve the speed of my program. Basically the user inputs min and max values for a, b, c, and d and a constant n, and then it tries to find the curve/line in the form a (x/b + c) ^ n + d. However for large ranges (1-100 for a,b,c, and d; total of 100 million values to try), it would take around 100 minutes at the current rate (approx 800k values/minute). I'm wondering whether I can further improve the speed. [Code]

This is what I'm trying to do: I have a listbox to display a list of costs that the user inputs. I want to use some kind of loop to add those numbers from the listbox sequentially, then display the total in a label.
How do I set up a loop (and what kind of loop is best) to pull the numbers and add them to a total? give an example of what the code might look like. I'm new to VB

Is it possible for you to loop a block of code until the user provides a valid input? Like, when I click the save button, the program will prompt the user for an integer value, and I would like to validate if the user has inputted a valid value. If the user fails to input a valid value, then the program will re-prompt the same message again until the user inputs a valid value. Eg:
If MsgBox("Add copies to this book?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNo, "Adding Book Copies") = MsgBoxResult.Yes Then
Dim CopyQty As String = InputBox("Amount of copies to generate:", "Add Book Copy")
If IsNumeric(CopyQty) = False or (CopyQty < 1) Then

For school and other reasons, i am making an application in which the user can draw tile based backgrounds, to then turn into long line of code , i think called CSV , which can then be used in programs such as flash, to draw a tile based background. I am currently making a flash game, and dont really like the other tile array making programs out there.
For instance, code such as [1,0,1],[0,1,0],[1,0,1] with the correct code would generate a 3x3 tile background with an X shape.Anyway, at the moment i am currently stuck.I have code up and running which generates a 2 dimensional background out of pictureboxes randomly, however thats as far as i got, i dont know how to access the pictureboxes created.
What i have right now is two variables, gridX and gridY, which determine the amount of tiles placed in a for loop. These variables would be used to determine the size of multidimensional arrays that store the tile data, and determine the map size.i intended each image to be clickable, so that its picture would change from black to white when clicked
When clicked, the tile would switch between two images, to represent two different tiles. at the same time, a value in an array created with the tile, would change from 1 to 0.Then when its time to make the code, i simply use a for loop to spit out the array in the way i want.
I understand that i could perhaps create a class for the pictureboxes, but i dont know how to, since ive never dealt with them, and i dont understand any of the guides and tuts.how to use a class so that i could add and change the properties of multiple dynamically created pictureboxes, but also change the value of an array created with the picturebox, when clicked?
i need all of this to be done however without adding or including any additional libraries or anything to visual basic as it will be graded on school computers.

When I try to access the controls of a form which is not yet created (i.e. to modify the contents of a text box , to press a button etc) , I fail , usually without even an error message . I found out that the only way to make my program go right is to take care that the form is first created before I try to access anything on that form . However this means I must use the Show method to create it and then to Hide it , which leads to an instant awful optical effect . I remember back in VB6 there wasn't such a problem ; it seems that in VB6 each time I accessed a control on a not-created form led to the form being created silently . Is there any way I could do that in .NET too in order to access my precious controls ?
