Adding A Close Button To BindingNavigator And "sharing" It With Other Forms

Nov 19, 2007

I want to add a close button to a custom navigator. That's fine.

Now what if I want to use it on every form that I would create ? What is the best way (Is subclassing possible for this control in that case, ...) ? Any inspiring code somewhere even for another type of control ?

Add A Close Button On The BindingNavigator Control Once And Reuse It On All Other Forms?

Aug 6, 2009

One of the VBF member was asking how to add a close button on the BindingNavigator control once and reuse it on all other forms, so I try to create a custom bindingnavigator class that inherits the BindingNavigator class.Below is the inherited class:

[Code]...

The thing that I can't figure out is that it looks OK in design mode, but at run time, the custom binding navigator shows 2 "Close" buttons. Only one of them will close the form when clicked, the other one doesn't function. See the attached image.

Adding A Close Button In VB GDI

Jul 6, 2011

I have a GDI+ question using Aeonhack's themebase. I'm using Aeonhack's themebase in VB.NET to make my first theme. I want to make the theme so that there is an X (close) button at the top right corner built into the theme. I'm doing so like this: [Code] And when I run it, it works fine. However, when I run it with that code, my buttons "disappear" or rather, turn that blank color you get as the control background for a forms application. How can I keep my buttons from doing this?

Forms :: Disabling Close Button(X) Of Window?

Apr 15, 2009

I am trying to work on an application that disables the close button (X) on the upper right hand corner of a window. In order to do that I need to use calls to API methods like GetSystemMenu, EnableMenuItem and RemoveMenu. I can figure out how these methods work but there are certain parameters that these methods have whose values that need to be passed to them as argument is unknown to me. How can I know them.

E.G.- for EnableMenuItem, the parameters are- hMenu (handle to the menu), uIDEnableItem (The menu item to be enabled, disabled, or grayed), uEnable (This parameter must be a combination of at least two of the following: MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_BYPOSITION MF_ENABLED, MF_DISABLED, or MF_GRAYED)Now when I call this method from my application I supply the current window handle as the first argument, the item no. to be disabled/enabled as the second argument but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TO SEND AS THE THIRD ARGUMENT. What exactly are the possible values for those parameters- MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_DISABLED. I checked certain examples where they are supplying hexadecimal values like &HF060, &H1, 0x400, 0x1000, 0x2 etc. or integer values like 1024, 2 etc. But how would I know what exactly these values are and when to use which value. The same problem arises in case of calling RemoveMenu method.

RTF Close - Add A Close Button To Menu Strip That Will Just Close The Currently Opened File

Jan 16, 2009

I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

Forms :: Skip Validation Of Active Control When Form's Close Button Is Clicked

Aug 12, 2009

Is there any way to skip a the validating event of the active control when the close button of the form is clicked. It is very annoying when user wants to close the form, but due to the validate event of the active control, it asks for the valid input. The user is forced to give valid input to close the form. I have searched a lot for this on net but no any proper solution could be found.

Forms :: Sharing Settings XML Document Between Forms?

Dec 26, 2009

I have an application built that has several forms. I use an XML file to store settings data (mainly folder names for data output) and I need each form to be able to access and modify the data. I'd also like each form to access functions from a main form (such as file parsing functions). I have read articles about properties and inheritance but I need some guidance as this topic is pretty confusing.

Sharing Data Between Forms?

Nov 17, 2009

I am working with several RFID readers that perform different function in my vb.net program. Currently each reader port number is hard coded into the respective form. For example, reader 3 operates on COM1. However, this will be problematic when installing on different machines.

What I would like to do is have a "configuration" form where the user can select each reader and then select the COM port. Then all other code references these settings. What would be the best approach for this.

The only way I know to do it currently is to place this information in a small database and then have the forms reference that database, but it is a lot to do for such a seemingly trivial task.

Sharing UI Validation Between Forms?

I am trying to figure out how to seperate my business logic from my forms. This is my first attempt at doing this, but I would like to figure out how to handle events from multiple forms within a class. I have found myself routinely writing the same logic over and over in each form class and its time I figure out how to completly seperate out that logic in winforms so I can reuse the methods across all of my forms.

So basically I have this click event in form1:
Private Sub btnSubmit_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click

Close() Puts Forms Into Crazy Open/Close Loop?

Mar 4, 2011

In a program I'm working on, I want a "Loading..." dialog to close when it can't log in to a site using the username and password provided by the user. Basically, I have the code set up right because the function it is supposed to carry out when that occurs does work, but for some reason it ends up in some really weird stuff happening. In the Loading form, I have it set to do "Form1.Show()" and then "Me.Close()", assuming it would simply show the login form and then close the Loading form. However, when this happens, the Loading form closes, and then for only an instant Form1 shows, and then the Loading form shows and Form1 closes. This happens forever until I stop the debugging, and I can't seem to figure out why. Am I using the wrong method? What exactly does Me.Close() do anyways? All I want to do is close the form and open another

Best Practice For Sharing Variables Across Forms?

Mar 27, 2011

I need to share variables across two forms in vb.net. One of them is the main form and the other is a child form.

Create a static/shared variable in one of the forms and access it in the other forms via:
Form1 frm = new Form1(); //creating object of parent to access shared variable
frm.a = "abc"; // passing value

Send an instance of the main form to the child form when creating the child form. The variables can then be accessed via a property function. Create global variables in a module. This seems like the easiest option, but I doubt it is the best option.I also read something about delegates and events, but I don't know how to implement this.

.net - Sharing Mdb Access Connection Among Multiple Forms?

Sep 7, 2010

I'm starting to put in a database into my application, however I'm drawing a blank on how to share a database connection among the dozen or so different forms in my MDI application. I'm assuming this has to do with interfaces or something but I can't find any relevant examples anywhere. Can someone help me out? Ideally what I'd like is when the app is loaded up there is a call to a function in the forms loading area which establishes a single connection to the mdb, that I can then call via any form so I don't always have to open/close connections everytime I need to update the db?

Here's a basic example of the mdb database access code I've got working:

Dim dt As DataTable = New DataTable()
Dim OleDbTran As OleDbTransaction = Nothing
Using connJET As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("connection string here...")

[code]....
