View 6 RepliesI have a problem about shown event. I have a login form and a main form. I start the program with main form. then I used frmMain.Shown() to control the login form. When main form is shown, it checks Win. Registry if username and password is stored there. İf yes, login form comes and wants me to sign in and if not, it calls first login form to create a record in Registry.The problem is that; When I click on X (close) button, it closes the login form, but Main form is still running and I can use it without sign in. How do I solve this problem? Or is there any other way to controls if Registry has the record or not

View 4 RepliesI am trying to work on an application that disables the close button (X) on the upper right hand corner of a window. In order to do that I need to use calls to API methods like GetSystemMenu, EnableMenuItem and RemoveMenu. I can figure out how these methods work but there are certain parameters that these methods have whose values that need to be passed to them as argument is unknown to me. How can I know them.
E.G.- for EnableMenuItem, the parameters are- hMenu (handle to the menu), uIDEnableItem (The menu item to be enabled, disabled, or grayed), uEnable (This parameter must be a combination of at least two of the following: MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_BYPOSITION MF_ENABLED, MF_DISABLED, or MF_GRAYED)Now when I call this method from my application I supply the current window handle as the first argument, the item no. to be disabled/enabled as the second argument but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TO SEND AS THE THIRD ARGUMENT. What exactly are the possible values for those parameters- MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_DISABLED. I checked certain examples where they are supplying hexadecimal values like &HF060, &H1, 0x400, 0x1000, 0x2 etc. or integer values like 1024, 2 etc. But how would I know what exactly these values are and when to use which value.The same problem arises in case of calling RemoveMenu method.

The thing that I can't figure out is that it looks OK in design mode, but at run time, the custom binding navigator shows 2 "Close" buttons. Only one of them will close the form when clicked, the other one doesn't function. See the attached image.
I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

Is there a way to prevent the Enter key from being interpreted as a button click.
I am trapping key strokes at the form level but if a button has the focus and the ENTER key is pressed I cannot trap the enter because the button consumes it as a button click event. I am also unable to trap the enter key in any of the button's key events.
I am interfacing with magtripe swipe and barcode readers that send their information as keystrokes with a CRLF at the end. I have a work around by chaning the focus to a textbox anytime keystrokes are detected but I am hoping for better control.
Is there a way to disable the buttons ability to do this?
Is it possible to have multiple click events for a button based on the button text? In other words, if I change the button text can i create a new click event based on that text but use the same button?
for example:
button1.text starts as "steel"
button2.text starts as "brass"
If I click button1 then the text would change to:
button1.text="Stainless"
button2.text="Cold rolled"
If I click button1 again a string would then be added to a textbox and the process would start over again. can I have a different click event or would I need to put an If/Then or Select/Case in the sub to handle this? I have 10 buttons I would need to do this with and each needing at least 3 different choices for each depending on the previous button press.
I have two forms in my project, Form1 and Form2. In Form1 there is one TextBox called Text1, and in the Form2 there is TextBox called Text2. I have one button in Form1, called Button1. When I click on Button1 I want that Form2 open and in Text2 is text from Text1.

View 3 RepliesI created a function that retrieves information on which checkboxes are checked. It returns an array which the information coupled to the checking of those checkboxes. Those checkboxes and the matching textboxes are dynamically created at runtime in that same function. I'm pausing the application to wait for a button to be pressed. I'm trying to find a way to use btnDone.Click event directly because the code always reloops my function once more recreating the controls.

vb.net experts, I am new to vb.net but I have some programming background and some experience. What I want to do is this. As of right now I have a webpage with buttons on it and each button once clicked runs a script in DOS and a the DOS command windows appear.
I would like to make a vb.net form with buttons on it that each button when clicked executes the same program. However the kicker is I want the DOS output to be displayed within the form along with a scrolling bar to the right of the window so a person can scroll thru the outputted DOS window. Does that make sense?
