Allowing Two Windows From The Same APP To Move?

Aug 19, 2011

I'm making a VB.net application. I have a dialog that pops up at some points. It is set as TopMost. The problem is, when it pops up, you can't move the main form. How can I make it so it shows and is usable while allowing the main form to continue to be usable?

Minmax Algorithm Only Winning When The Move Is In Direct Sight - Otherwise Always Allowing The Player To Win

Feb 7, 2012

I've been pulling my hair for three days trying to figure out what has gone wrong in what little code I have in my first attempt at both the minimax algorithm, and recursive calls in general (I'm relatively new to programming). Basically, I have everything working in the application except for the thing I wanted to actually learn and work on in it: The minimax algorithm. Basically, whenever a player makes a move, the computer will do one of two things:

If there is a winning move right next to it, it will use that move. Easy as pie.
However, if this move isn't in direct sight, it will pick whatever move lets the player win. The exact opposite of what it should be doing. I know it's not coming from:

Stop Pausing When I Scroll Or Move Windows?

Jun 7, 2011

I'm making... well, it's sort of like a game in VB.net (using VS2008, if it matters). Being sort of like a game, it's dependent on timing, but it also has a large area (have to scroll the window on pretty much any resolution). The problem I'm having is that whenever I scroll the window (or move any of the smaller, additional windows) the program pauses what it's doing, and doesn't start again until I stop scrolling (or moving windows, or whatever). So is there any way to stop it pausing when you scroll or move windows?

The concept is pretty simple: I have a library that supplies some ecomm functions. One class in the libary contains functions around calculating tax. One class in the library revolves around the cart header. This class is consumed by a web project.

Allowing Certain Types Of Characters For A Textbox?

Jun 25, 2010

I am creating a converter program (lengths, weights and such), basically just for the learning process because I still find myself very new to this.Well it's like this, I have a textbox where the user is supposed to write the value of the unit he/she wants to convert. As we all know there is a possibility to write in many weird strings which the program later on result in a big error. I recently managed to get rid of dots, because the program couldn't convert if there were a dot among the numbers "." (commas "," works great!). And now there are other types of errors I need to get fixed. I will make a short numeric list.

1. I wonder if it's possible to make dots "." to mean the same thing as a comma ",".

2. I also wonder if i could disable letters a-z or like -#@%&]?! and so on, i just want the basic 0-9 with a coma or dot.

3. I tried to make a Msgbox that tells the user when he/she has done an overflow, a number to big for the program to handle, for example [Observe the code is also trying to prevent the user from writing a minus "-":

(textbox1_textchanged)
If TextBox1.Text.Contains("-") Then
TextBox1.Text = TextBox1.Text.Replace("-", "")

[code]....

The minus thingy works great, but the 9999999... code, it always creates problems so I have commented it out for now until I know how to handle it.

4. Even though I got rid of the dot "." problem, the user is still able to write more then one comma, and I also want to get rid of that. The code I use right now for the "disable dot problem" is:

(textbox1_keypress)
If e.KeyChar = "," Then
If TextBox1.Text.IndexOf(",") > -1 Then

[code]....

Allowing VB To Encrypt A Txt File And Read It?

Jan 13, 2009

I have been successful in making an anti-hack program that uses a list from the local computer, this is at the moment a text file that can easily be modified, so my question is.Is there a way to replace this .txt file with a more secure format, one that cannot be decrypted (or is very hard to decrypt) without changing all my code?

the only thing i have to use the txt file for is adding the contained items to a listbox. Also, it would be possible for be to use SQL as i am using a dedicated server for the automatic update, so can use it as a remote library for the app the connect to.

VS 2005 Controls Not Allowing Properties To Be Set?

Oct 2, 2009

I have an application that has a main form and several sub forms, but it is not an mdi application. I am pulling data from various tables in an access database and loading into an dataset. In my module I have a sub that is processing the returned tables and is supposed to be setting controls values (radiobuttons and checkboxes checked values mainly) on the sub forms. The forms have not been called previously and when I do a .show() on them, the controls that were supposed to have been set are not, my question is why are they not setting?? Here is the code I am using to set my controls from the module:

If ds.Tables.Contains("FacilityReviewAnswers") = True _
AndAlso ds.Tables("FacilityReviewAnswers").Rows.Count > 0 Then
For Each c As DataColumn In ds.Tables("FacilityReviewAnswers").Columns
If c.ColumnName <> "SurveyID" Then

VS 2010 : Encryption - Allowing User To Set Key?

Oct 6, 2011

I am using the code from the following link. Basically I am using the built in functions in visual basic for encryption (Cryptography). Seeing as there is a lot of code for it, I posted a link to the code I am using.

[URL]

I get what this is doing and how it is doing it...for the most part. My question is how do you let the user set the key to be used instead of it randomly generating one? One of the reasons I want this over the random key is that the user will be able to remember it easier and the key generated sometimes has weird characters in it that not everyone will no how to use. I have tried everything I can think of.

The encryption works good, all I am using it for is to encrypt/decrypt a text document. If this is not too good of an encryption, that does not matter as I am not using it to encrypt any highly sensitive information. All I need is a way to be able to allow the user to set the key, but every time I try to pass a string through the encryption() method instead of a generated key (in the generateKey() method) it will give me an error.
