View 6 RepliesHas anyone else had this problem in VB.Net (I'm using VS 2008)?Basically I have several panels in a form, and the form has one background image (a gradient) while the panels have a different background image for themselves. Now, when I place a couple of labels and a button in the panels, and set the background of the labels to transparent (so that the background image of the panel is shown as the background of the labels in question) while running the application the form and panels kind of "flash" (a very short and fast white flash, like from a camera) the whole window for a couple of seconds (continuously), after which they do several refreshes of their text and background.
The problem only happens in Vista and Windows 7, XP seems to be not affected. Is this fixable? I thought it may be a problem with my display drivers (as it's not happening in my XP installation), but I saw the same problem happen on a video review of my application at CNET, so I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong with the GUI?
The 1st problem: I set the transparency key to a color and then set the forms background color to that color, and then set the background image to an image with rounded edges to give my form rounded edged. But the corners look VERY jagged.
The 2nd problem: Is there a way to make a form appear in the lower right corner above the task bar? Kind of like Avasts virus database definition update window.
I would like to create programmatically an animation for the background color of a label but I have some problems.
I have implemented the following code:
Public Sub DoBackgroundAnimation(ByVal obj As Label)
If obj Is Nothing Then Return
Dim animatedBrush As New SolidColorBrush()

I am working on a project and i have come to designing my splash screen... i dont want a useless one what just shows a loading bar what does nothing, im trying to make it useful and show while the main form is loading however this is proving to be a pain in the backside.. i can make the splash screen load when the exe is executed then close when the form is ready but i want to add an animation to the form (just a moving logo) this is just done by me running an timer what changes the location at each tick.. i can get it to work well on its own but when i add frmMain.show() to the code to load the program the animation will not work... i only get this when i ask the program to load the main form..
View 2 RepliesI m developing an application in vb 2008, and using background worker to copy file(s). I have my own designed form which plays an animationon on the top of the form along with copy. For playing animation i m using "AxMSComCtl2.AxAnimation", on execution i get
"ActiveX control '' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment." On search i found a link :Forum Link
But still in this link Firstly i dont understand where to insert this snippet and secondly how to implement the idea on background worker.

View 3 RepliesI've read that using TransparencyKey on a form (for the creation of non-linear forms) only works with color density at 16 bit.
I've tried it a 32 and 16 and found it to be true.
I have a button named "b", which background I want to change from black to white, but it doesn't work.
The error:
'System.Windows.Media.Animation.ColorAnimation' animation object cannot be used to animate property 'Background' because it is of incompatible type 'System.Windows.Media.Brush'.

I've been playing around with Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews. I've noticed that some Microsoft applications are able to set thumbnail images which have transparency in background. I've been trying all out and not been able to achieve this.
I've set a picturebox control having PNG with transparency as thumbnail preview, doesnt work. I tried creating a new bitmap and loading from Icon file having transparency and setting it as preview but still doesn't work. It keeps showing the background color of the form window.
This is what Microsoft apps are able to acheive:

View 2 RepliesAlright inside of a combo box I have a list of colors and I want to change the background color of the combo box to the selected color...basically this... but im not sure what the problem is here anyone have some advice or is this not possible?
CBLinerColor.BackColor() = CBLinerColor.Items.Item(0)
Basically i want dynamic code that will change the color depending on the items in the box.
I want the background of my form to be the same color as the window frame color that the user selects, even if that changes. I selected System->WindowFrame as my background color, but it always remains a dark grey, regardless of what I have my window color set to. How else would I achieve what I want? I assumed I was doing it the correct way. Do I actually need code that gets the system window color and then apply it?
View 4 RepliesI used my forms TransparencyKey property to make the form background invisible, but to keep the controls 100% visible. But, when I add a label onto the form, a border or outline shows up around the text (doesn't matter which color I do it with). My friend says that this isn't fixable and he said that it doesn't happen in VB6. I'm tempted to remake the project in VB6, but Windows 7 is being released soon and compatibility is a must.
What about C#? Does the issue occur as well? If not I'll just go with that.

I've tried adding a splash screen ]...to one of my applications and after exploring a while I somehow managed to get it working what bugs me now is that my splash screen is in fact a image inside a picture box and the form always shows the control color behind so what I tried is adding the form color to the transparency key this worked, somehow now, I use a png image that has some transparent effect also what I've noticed is that where I would want to show the transparent effect from the image the transparent color that is set in the forum shows below is the image to get my point of view:
I'm wondering if I can remove that "pink" color (set by me in the forum) from the image .I want to get a effect like the one Adobe products have for example

what I am trying to accomplish worked with the code in the last thread I posted a while back. I still am using this code, however, I changed the window size to work better and gave it a nicer background for the title screen of my project. Now what I am working on at the moment is making a settings form that has 2 labels. One for "Default" Layout and one for "Plain" layout. When default is at start, the default label is disabled,and when plain layout is clicked, the button is disabled and default button is enabled.Basically, this is a toggle switch for default or plain where if one is enabled, the option for it is disabled and the other is enabled.My problem is that when I switch from Plain back to default, the background Image will not switch back from the plain background color of "control"Here is my code:
Public Class Settings
Private Sub LinkLabel1_LinkClicked(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.LinkLabelLinkClickedEventArgs) Handles LinkLabel1.LinkClicked
MiDNiGHT.BackgroundImage = Nothing[code].......
I know the propertys transparency key and opacity. It isnt what I am looking for. I need to have my form to have the same Glass Effect the as win7 does while runing under win7 plataform. Like, if i have glass effect in the top I should have it in the background.
