I'm Writing a class to Encapsulate the RegisterHotkey Windows API, So I needed a Message Loop to catch the WM_HOTKEY message and I was directed to use a ApplicationContext as a replacement of my form, and then I needed to add a Class that Implements IMessageFilter to monitor the Window Messages.
It Is my first Time working With Application Context's and the IMessageFilter interface
I created a empty test project just to show you guys what I'm dealing with and not all my other nasty code. Currently I get nothing in my debug and when I set a breakpoint on Debug.WriteLine(m.Msg) it doesn't get hit.
So what does this mean and how do I fix it? This message occurs if I place the New keyword in the line(s) below. If I remove it, i get an error at runtime saying I need to use New. What am I doing wrong? Code:
I want to do what I have done in the past, using the old VB6. Subclassing has changed a lot since VB6 and I still want to do the same:
I need to intercept WM_PAINT of DataGridView, send it to a memory device context (to avoid flickering), make some visual changes, like place a logo over all over the grid. With VB6, was easy to do. I have spend hours trying to convert VB6/API code to Visual Basic Express 2010 code, without success.
I'm using VB.NET 2008. I have a form with about 10 or so labels on it, and that could increase the more I develop my assignment. I would like to give each of these labels a context menu, which says "Whats this?" and provide a message box to the user with the appropriate help text. Now what I've done so far is created a contextmenustrip on my forum, and linked all the labels to that single contextmenustrip. I have also added a menu item to that strip called WhatsThisToolStrip MenuItem, but I am at a loss, on where to go next, and find out on what label the contextmenu was activated on?
So for example if a user right clicks the lblStatus label and selects "Whats this?" item a different message box will appear than if the user right clicked the lblSid label.
I've got an app working semi-background stuff in the GUI thread. Another thread won't work and a timer won't work. But I want the app to be responsive while I'm going my 'background' work.I cound use application.doevents - but that gives me 3 bad choices:
-loop with no sleeps - end peg an entire CPU (my task waits on stuff besides calcs & I/O so this matters) -loop with a sleep - then the app slows down -Try to make a 'smart sleep' loop that speeds up when lots of messages happen (check for messages in messagefilter function)
[code]why I can't use application.run, or threads, what I want to do is handled the OnUnhandledException event, then leave my app open for a while while some winforms stuff closes it down gracefully and tells my watchdog program to restart the app. after allowing the user to finish a critical process, too. Yes, I know people thing that a program getting OnUnhandledException deserves to die (obviously MS), there are 'dangerous' things that could happen; none of them are as dangerous, however, as the wrath of my users. Looking for vb.net sourcecode exact translations of the above two functions.
I'd like to write a GUI for a command-line application, and add that GUI application into Windows Explorer's context menu to provide a few commands la 7zip[url]...
how actually antivirus, WinRar and other applications can list their application in context menu? I'm developing an application using vb.net and I want to list my application in that menu. look at this screenshot...
i found this article to solve that problem >> Context Menus in VB.NET. However, the context menu only appear within the form.
For example, WinRar; you can see that application be listed in the context menu whenever you right-click on any file. I want to do like that... but how?
I am in the middle of development of a WPF application that is using Entity Framework (.NET 3.5). It accesses the entities in several places throughout. I am worried about consistency throughout the application in regard to the entities. Should I be instancing separate contexts in my different views, or should I (and is a a good way to do this) instance a single context that can be accessed globally?
For instance, my entity model has three sections, Shipments (with child packages and further child contents), Companies/Contacts (with child addresses and telephones), and disk specs. The Shipments and EditShipment views access the DiskSpecs, and the OptionsView manages the DiskSpecs (Create, Edit, Delete). If I edit a DiskSpec, I have to have something in the ShipmentsView to retrieve the latest specs if I have separate contexts right?
If it is safe to have one overall context from which the rest of the app retrieves it's objects, then I imagine that is the way to go. If so, where would that instance be put? I am using VB.NET, but I can translate from C# pretty good. I just don't want one of those applications where the user has to hit reload a dozen times in different parts of the app to get the new data.
All contexts are created in Using Blocks to dispose of them after they are no longer needed. When loaded, all entities are detatched from context before it is disposed.A new property in the MainViewModel (ContextUpdated) raises an event that all of the other ViewModels subscribe to which runs that ViewModels RefreshEntities method. After implementing this, I started getting errors saying that an entity can only be referenced by one ChangeTracker at a time. Since I could not figure out which context was still referencing the entity (shouldn't be any context right?) I cast the object as IEntityWithChangeTracker, and set SetChangeTracker to nothing (Null).
This has let to the current problem:When I Null the changeTracker on the Entity, and then attach it to a context, it loses it's changed state and does not get updated to the database. However if I do not null the change tracker, I can't attach. I have my own change tracking code, so that is not a problem.
My new question is, how are you supposed to do this. A good example Entity query and entity save code snipped would go a long way, cause I am beating my head in trying to get what I once thought was a simple transaction to work.
When i click on my installed VB.net application icon on the desktop,i receive the message : 'Application failed ti initialize property ox700000000000000 ..... click ok to terminate application'.
When bulk renaming files (14000 of them) i get this error: The CLR has been unable to transition from COM context 0x4cefd8 to COM context 0x4cf148 for 60 seconds. The thread that owns the destination context/apartment is most likely either doing a non pumping wait or processing a very long running operation without pumping Windows messages. This situation generally has a negative performance impact and may even lead to the application becoming non responsive or memory usage accumulating continually over time. To avoid this problem, all single threaded apartment (STA) threads should use pumping wait primitives (such as CoWaitForMultipleHandles) and routinely pump messages during long running operations.
My code is as follows:
Private Sub frmTest_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim asd As List(Of String) = FileIO.FileSystem.GetFiles("D:Music").ToList Dim rs As New ADODB.RecordSet("SELECT * FROM Songs", My.Settings.Files_Database__Connection)
I am having an issue with an ASP.Net page I am writing and struggling to diagnose why this page is failing.
I am trying to do this:
Dim st As New StringWriter() Dim strURL As String = "CourseProgramme.aspx?id=3733" Context.Server.Execute(strURL, st) txtNotes.Text = st.ToString()
The aim here is to get the HTML back for the page that has been specified in strURL and then display it in a textbox. However when I run this code it crashes the ApplicationPool in IIS and when I look in event viewer I see this error message:
A process serving application pool 'blueprintdev' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '5284'. The data field contains the error number. The strange thing here is that in another page I do this code which works fine:
Dim strDutyStartDate As Date strDutyStartDate = TextboxDutyStartDate.Text Dim st As New StringWriter()
[code]....
As far as I can see other than the URL I am passing, which does exist, I cannot see a difference between the two.The page I am developing is in ASP.Net with .Net 4.0 however in the website there are some classic ASP pages. IIS is running at version 7.5.7600.16385 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64Bit.So far I have tried setting the application pool to run in 32bit mode but that causes errors in other areas and the site will not load.
I have recently created an application where a lot of data is loaded into objects when the application starts up, and other data as it is required. For example if the user requests the catalogue page then it will load all the top level category data into objects of type Category. This will then stay there to be used by other users (who will therefore not have to load this data into objects) and can be altered by admin if they happen to login during the same application instance. I know this is not the most efficient solution, as pointed out below, but it works and the page load, at the moment, is not too long. It is very quick if most of the required data is already loaded into objects. It is also tailored to the business' needs - unlike other techniques such as Linq-to-SQL.
I have developed a window application in VB.Net now i want to add my executables to the windows explorer right click menu.so that whenever user right clicks on any folder or any file then in the menu litst mu application executables should be there. How do i achieve this in the vb.net.
I need to be able to send keycode keys.apps (windows context menu key) to an application. Surely if I can detect the keypress, there's a way to send the keypress, right?
What I'm doing is having a 3rd party app save a screenshot and the only way to have it do so is through its right click context menu.
I got this message because of a long process: ContextSwitchDeadlock was detected Message: The CLR has been unable to transition from COM context 0x3dc190 to COM context 0x3dc300 for 60 seconds.
I've poked around on the internet and on a forum, someone suggested to use application.doevents(). I did that and the messaged goes away. In an earlier thread a member wrote that using application.doevents rarely was used appropriately. Is my situation a proper usage of application.doevents or is there something else I should be doing?
How do I get this to work on the client computer in a web application :MessageBox.Show(OnlineRepairListBox.SelectedItem.Text, "LEN Record Selected is :", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation, _ MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button1, MessageBoxOptions.ServiceNotification)
I am trying to make an application that will send messages to an sms mobile phone (the provider is GiffGaff but i dont sort of know there SMS Server Name). Here is my coding so far....

I have 2 applications, "Application A" and "Application B" In application B, there is a loop that do some work Now, from Application A, I want to control this loop, in application B, so the loop gets run once each time Application A say so Up to this point, There is no problem, I just created a Mutex that I pass from an application to the other.
The problem comes when Application A want to stop the game -If application A terminate its thread without closing the Mutex, Application B does take it and the loop goes on non stop. But what I want is to exit the loop.I can immagine 3 ways to terminate the loop, but none of them apears to be the good way to do
1) Closing the mutex in application A. This will create an exception in Application B, which I can catch to terminate the loop
2) Create a custom windows message for Application A to notify Application B that the mutex needs to be close so Application B can exit the loop and close the mutex. ( However, I am using a mutex to avoid to use this windows message pathern, I do not want the UI thread to be involve in the mecanism )
3) Create another mutex that would be own by application A and that will be blocking another thread in Application B. This way, Application A by releasing this mutex can permit this other thread to set a boolean flag telling the thread in the loop to exit the loop.
To illustrate this, I made this short code. It implement the option 1) which is using the exception to exit the loop
Application A Public Class Form1 Dim MutexA As Threading.Mutex
So im trying to allow the user to send a message to an application on a server telling it to do different things. So i build the client and the server side applications and tested them on my computer and another computer here. Everything worked great, just like i wanted it to.
When I moved the server application to the actual server and tried connection via the internet, it did not work. I got the error message: An error has occured : A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond IPADDRESS:PORT
Well then I realized chances are a VPN connection to my server and using my servers name instead of my servers IPADDRESS would fix this problem, which it did.
I dont want to require the user to have to create a VPN connection, i dont really care reather they use the IPaddress or not, although if theres a fix for that too it would be great. Heres my code: (I have marked where the error occured)
I am developing a windows service, in vb .et, that launches a legacy application that performs some work. The service acts as a wrapper around the legacy app allowing users to automate an otherwise manual operation.Everything is working great, except occasionally the legacy app displays a messagebox. When it does this the process halts until the message box is closed.
As the service will be running on a server there will be no user to close the message box.The service launches the legacy application in a System.Diagnostics.Process.My question is, is there way to detect that a message box has been displayed by a process that I have started using System.Diagnostics.Process and is there a way to through code to close the messagebox.
I want to develop an application that gathers event messages of windows and show them on the screen as messages. For example I want to get a message when I receive a new email or when I close an application I want to get a message on the screen that x application is closed.
I get this error message when running an application developed in VB. It used to works fine but for some reason it was asking to update ODBC but after that it cannot read the dbf file any more. The error message is speicified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf)).Even I installed this visualFoxProOledb.exe and also MDAC 2.8 it still doesn't work.
I am trying to install a program but I get the message Application already installed at other location The application does not appear in the program manager to be uninstalled. I have tried publishing a later version but when I try to install it I get the same message. The click-once publisher generally includes an uninstall program with the applications. when Ive had this problem before it was fixed by republishing as a newer version.
I believe I have found a solution! I will be continuing testing to make sure it DOES in fact work, but I'm hopeful :) I have detailed how I found the solution in EDIT THREE of the question.
For anyone wishing to know the full background behind my problem and what I have kind of tried as a result of input from this question, see this: [url]
I will be editing this frequently (>3 times a day most weekdays) as I progress my research and situation, so keep checking back if you are interested or have some information or knowledge of my issue :)
Quick Background:
I have this app I have made that can be crashed by changing my screen saver or locking my work station, and in general whenever a WM_WININICHANGE/WM_SETTINGSCHANGE message is sent to it.
If I can consistently crash my app by changing my screensaver, then SOME part of doing that is sending my app SOME kind of message (not necessarily a windows message, I mean message in the most general sense), which in turn is catastrophic to my application. Due to this, I am trying to find a way to block whatever message is causing my problem from being processed by my application. I am aware this isn't the best way to go about a solution, so you don't need to tell me. Look at the backgroung info or ask why if that bothers you (there is a good reason).
I've made an application in Visual Basics, But I Want A msgbox to appear when the form is closed would this work?
Private Sub Form1_OnExit(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.OnExit MsgBox("Have You Saved, If Not Your Work WILL Be Discarded!", MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Have You Saved?") End Sub
I know how to communicate with a web service from VB6 application using SOAP messages.
But I want to develop something like---- a Web Service will listen to request from other applications, and after receiving any such request it will send a message to process that request to my VB6 application.
I am writing a support application and want to send alerts and messages to the applications to show the user.
Example: Application opens at start-up, I post an alert of an upcoming network outage, the user gets a notification in the task-bar that when clicked will open the full message in my application.
