Send A DataGridView WM_PAINT Message Directly To A DC (device Context)?
Oct 20, 2010
I want to do what I have done in the past, using the old VB6. Subclassing has changed a lot since VB6 and I still want to do the same:
I need to intercept WM_PAINT of DataGridView, send it to a memory device context (to avoid flickering), make some visual changes, like place a logo over all over the grid. With VB6, was easy to do. I have spend hours trying to convert VB6/API code to Visual Basic Express 2010 code, without success.
So what does this mean and how do I fix it? This message occurs if I place the New keyword in the line(s) below. If I remove it, i get an error at runtime saying I need to use New. What am I doing wrong? Code:
I want to collect all stocks information within 2009 & 2010. I stored the required parameters (YMD & stock code) in DB. Is it possible to write a VB.Net windows application to pass all required parameters (post method) to web server and retrieve the web response automatically? (1 - 5 are valid stock code) It is
I never used the printingdocument class, and i need some info to know if i can do what i'm thinking.I need to send some text from one textbox directly to one printer (i doesn't have to be the default printer), the user just have to push the button in the form, and the text gets printed. I don't need (want), the print preview and the form with the printers list.
I'm Writing a class to Encapsulate the RegisterHotkey Windows API, So I needed a Message Loop to catch the WM_HOTKEY message and I was directed to use a ApplicationContext as a replacement of my form, and then I needed to add a Class that Implements IMessageFilter to monitor the Window Messages.
It Is my first Time working With Application Context's and the IMessageFilter interface
I created a empty test project just to show you guys what I'm dealing with and not all my other nasty code. Currently I get nothing in my debug and when I set a breakpoint on Debug.WriteLine(m.Msg) it doesn't get hit.
In VB6, I use CHR$(&H00) to create a Null Character. In VB.Net VS2008 CHR(&H00) creats a Null. I'm trying to send a Hex(00) to a serial device, but the VB.Net function only sends a null, not a null character. How can I accomplish this with VB.Net?

I need to send commands from PC to device through USB cable, and the code is : "0"(48) and must end with Enter(13). so what should I type in for the code for Enter?
I am attempting to write/read data to/from a device that is connected to my laptop via a USB-to-serial connection. The device getsa picked up in my device manager on com port 8.What do I need to be able retreive and send info. across to the device?
I want to send a simple command, such as "v20" followed by a carriage control character, to a heating/cooling block connected to a desktop computer running Windows XP. I am able to get the commands to work within a terminal emulator. I want to compile a simple program that will be executed by software used to control a liquid handling robot.I've looked at the how to send strings to serial ports in visual basic page and modified that code ever so slightly to send the data that I want. However, it does not work and my heating/cooling block is not changing temperatures.
Here's what I have written:
Sub SendSerialData(ByVal data As String) data = "n65" ' Send strings to a serial port.
In order to draw a text over a ComboBox (or whatever else), I override WndProc() and catch 0x000F message -- which is WM_PAINT.Code is like the following:
Protected Overrides Sub WndProc(ByRef m As Message) MyBase.WndProc(m) If m.Msg = &HF Then[code].....
It works very well, but there is a problem: if I drag parent window on a side of the screen (in order to hide a part of the window form), the visible part of my control is infinitely redrawn. This makes the text redrawn over itself. I suppose there is a way to draw only invalidated (hidden) part of the control. How can I do?
EDIT:Here is the problem in one picture: http:[url].....(it's a link since I can't post image for now.)
UPDATE: I tried using BeginPaint API, but the RECT structure included in the returned PAINTSTRUCT structure contains only zeros.
If m.Msg = WM_PAINT Then Dim ps As PAINTSTRUCT = New PAINTSTRUCT BeginPaint(Handle, ps)[code].....
Can I do something with that? I don't know how to proceed, in order to paint only invalidated area.
I'm using VB.NET 2008. I have a form with about 10 or so labels on it, and that could increase the more I develop my assignment. I would like to give each of these labels a context menu, which says "Whats this?" and provide a message box to the user with the appropriate help text. Now what I've done so far is created a contextmenustrip on my forum, and linked all the labels to that single contextmenustrip. I have also added a menu item to that strip called WhatsThisToolStrip MenuItem, but I am at a loss, on where to go next, and find out on what label the contextmenu was activated on?
So for example if a user right clicks the lblStatus label and selects "Whats this?" item a different message box will appear than if the user right clicked the lblSid label.
I have a need to construct a command Byte to send to another device using bit wise operations. There seem to be plenty of article on how to do this for indiviual bits using an OR'd constant but how do I do this for values that span multiple bits? eg "Bits 4-1" set the repeat count".so how to I inject a repeat count value of say 7 into my command byte?
How can I create a simple application to send timed controls to an external device?
What I need is to create a very simple application that sends control signals or voltages out to an external device connected via serial perhaps. The external device will in turn trigger some electromechanical devices. There needs to be 24 independent controls each with a simple command equivalent to on or off. What is important is being able to control the timings of the on and off on each control.[code]....
I need to be able to send keycode keys.apps (windows context menu key) to an application. Surely if I can detect the keypress, there's a way to send the keypress, right?
What I'm doing is having a 3rd party app save a screenshot and the only way to have it do so is through its right click context menu.
I created a simple user control and everything went fine. Then I created another of the same control (as a different project) from scratch (creating the controls in a different configuration; but pasting code from the previous one from a text file). As far as I know I did everything the same for creating a user controlCreate a Class Library project Then Project>Add New Item> User Control Then delete the initial class that was added automatically (usually named Class1.vb) Put all of my code and components into the user control class. However, when I wanted to run it in the debugger as I did in the previous project, I now get an error message:"A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly."
i'm tying to send email in my application directly by the smtp server but the server doesn't allow me to do that. The application its used by everyone in the company, so i set the smtp client UseDefaultCredentials to True, but the server replies with this when i try to send an email:[code].....If i set the credentials by hand, the server sends the email. So my problem is how to make this work to everyone? I don't want to have one public/friend var all time in the application with the credentials of the current user?
What kind of file format can I use to save the DataGridView's contens? Can it be the .xls format? This means I want to open the contents in Excel later. But I don't want to launch the Excel itself when I save the contents? Because Excel may not exist n the clients' machines. This means I just want to "save" not "export".
Is it possible to use a datgridview as an input device and then transfer the input to variables (one or two dimensional). I am creating a programme that can be used for a widely divergent number if inputs and the grid would be easier for the user rather than me creating a lot of text boxes at design time which may not be required much of the time and a datagridview would probably be preferable.
I manged to figure out how to send a message using a TCP such as text message, but how will a regular file be transported? Such as .txt .img Will i have to trasnform the file into a binary code and then compile it on users side? I never worked with the TCP. Now that I think of it how does a file get transported when you download from a server? Like bytes?
I am sending a message on another computer if there is a new entry on my database using socket programming(UDP protocol), however I am having lots of exception error whenever the other computer is off. Is there another way how am I going to send message on another computer if ever there is a new entry on the database.
In this i will have a database which will store "User Login ID" and "System Name".....when i click on a button "Send Message" it should send the message to the stored "System Name" only if the Current Login ID is logged in that system...
