Dec 1, 2011What I am doing is iterating through all the groups that belong to the top group (Generic reports). Then I take advantage of the GroupPrincipal.GetMembers(True) which will recurse through a given group name. I test to see if the user exits under that group and if true I put the group name in an arraylist.
I use the for each principal in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers to loop through each returned user to see if they exist.
Is there a way to put all the returned users Principal.Name from a given group in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers into an ArrayList? This would allow me to to use Arraylist1.IndexOf to search for user. Which would be much faster then iterating through a returned list using the for each construct.

VS 2008 - Reading ArrayList In My.Settings And Add Another ArrayList To It
Sep 21, 2010What I need to do is read an ArrayList in My.Settings and add another ArrayList to it. The first think I'm trying to do is load My.Settings.Records into myArrayList. I'm not quite sure on the proper way to do this. I've tried things such as Dim myArrayList As ArrayList = My.Settings.Records, I'm not sure if I need New and I'm not sure if I need .Clone or .CopyTo.
Then I have another ArrayList myArrayList2. To get this into myArrayList I've done: [Code] Then to save it back to My.Settings I've done. My.Settings.Records = myArrayList. The problem is I keep on getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on the AddRange line. My.Settings.Records is definitely an ArrayList and it will sometimes = Nothing. The objects will only ever be strings.
How To Properly Open A Image Using Bitmap Class And Dispose It Properly
Jun 22, 2010I am looking for a code snippet which opens a image, creates a clone of this bitmap in memory disposes this opened image so that all handles are closed.
Usually we can open a bitmap using this[code...]
the following code however keeps the Image File locked until the application is running, any suggestions how to dispose it properly. (So that no handle is left open )
Things i already tried: use dispose method of bitmap <= doesnt work (need to write implementation)
Using Block also doesnt work.
Get String Between Indexes?
Jan 13, 2010I've been searching for hours trying to make a Button event that removes all the text between two indexes in a list box. The two indexes are #FIRSTNAMES# and #LASTNAMES#... I have a code but it's WAAAY too confusing and it does not work. If anyone knows a way to do this, please let me know. I'll post my code just in case you don't know another way. I haven't gotten to the remove part, I'm still just trying to display the text between the indexes into a message box. I took most of it from Google pages... I really want an easier way, because I know there is one, but never the less I just need progress.

How To Use The Control Indexes

I have a blank form that I populate say with 8 PictureBoxes (it doesn't matter what the control is, I've just picked one at random)In VB6 if I want to change any property of these controls, its very simple, because I can index the control eg:

How can this this be done simply in VB for any control in general?

Sometimes(not always) I get that internal index is corrupted. I read somewhere that frequent updates to in memory datatable, can produce error like that and that only real solution is to create dataview from time to time, and by doing that datatable rebuild it's indexes...is that for real....I have changed my code and now I'm creating dataview and disposing it right away...so far so good. but I was wandering is thatfact....does datatble rebuilds it's indexes when you create dataview...and if not when are they rebuild.

Mar 20, 2012I want to create an array of an array (or arraylist of an arraylist) to hold strings.I want to fill an array1 with string values Then add this array to array2. - but only taking up 1 row in array2 e.g something like array2(index)=array1 Then clear array1 then loop through this again with different data, and add it to the array2.so will end up with something like
array2(0)... contains a collection of array1 data
array2(1)... contains a collection of different array1 data
.. and so on
i think i need to make new instances of array1 each loop, but not sure.I dont mind if it uses arrays, or arraylists, or lists, or structure of arrayslists?

Aug 25, 2009I am developing an application in VB2008. I initially starting using Office 2003. But later found out that I need to develop it using Office 2000 automation instead.
The problem is when I developed it using Office 2003 I was able to reference the bookmarks by name like this:

Why would just changing the references in the application cause the bookmarks to be referenced by numeric value only, instead of name? And how I can I get the bookmarks to be able to be referenced by name in Office 2000? Obviously I am doing something wrong, but can't figure out what.
Btw, when I try and reference a bookmark with the name in with the Office 2000 references I get this error: Conversion from string "Judgement" to type 'Integer' is not valid.
Using Loop - Showing Total Cost And Adding Indexes Together

Using the current loop that I have, it only adds the last cost in lstCosts. Is there a way to add the indexes together?

I've set up picture boxes for the dealer's cards and the player's cards, and i've linked those picture boxes to an ImageList that contains all of the cards (+ the picture of the back of the card, since you only see one of the dealer's cards to start out with). When you hit the "Deal" button, I have the following code so far:

Apr 12, 2012s there a difference between the arraylist in visual basic and arraylist in C#? I had to convert some C# code to VB and there is a call I make in a third party api that requires me to pass in an arraylist. When I do this in C# it works just fine, but when I do this in VB, I just get back a vaque exception from the api.

Using A Select Case Loop To Fill Different Indexes Of A Multidiminsional Array?
Dec 9, 2009I am using a select case loop to perform different tasks, one of the tasks the loop is doing is putting 1d arrays together into 3d arrays. But, when i come to print the 3d array only the 3rd "line" in the array is complete. Is there a way to pass variables created in a select case out of the select case?

Mar 29, 2010i have to convert a visual basic 6 program to the visual basic 2008. i used the wizard that is provided to upgrade but that just doesn't work. It comes up with many errors. most of them are End of statement expected and Number of indexes exceeds the number of dimensions of the indexed array. I really don't know what to do with them and i have to fix them in order for it to run.
