Basically all it is is a program that outputs a file with variables users input.I'm having a big problem getting the input variables into the correct places. I suppose I can't tie them in. For example.I have a textbox labeled textbox1 and I want to use the input from textbox1 in the code below

I have a form with a few text boxes, one of which has it's contents stored to a integer variable.
The value stored will end up being one of a few numbers ranging from 12 to 98, and I need to the same number of new variables as the number in the textbox.
Can I automate the creation of new variables based on the value stored, or do I need to define the max number required and just ignore the rest when using less?
Description of Program/Events. I would like to come up with a number generator that takes the Total number (for this example I'll say 20), divides it by 2, and does alternating additions so the end result will generate a list like this:
1, 11, 2, 12, 3, 13, 4, 14, 5, 15, 6, 16, 7, 17, 8, 18, 9, 19, 10, 20.
I can understand the arithmetic, just can't work out how to express this in code. The end result would be save in a .Txt file (I have added a SaveFileDialog1 control, but figure I need to get the result before I work on the export).

The application has been developed over the course of 10 years by several different companies... I have a team who is in the process of rewriting components of this application over to a ASP.NET/C# applications, leaving the structure of the back end database in its current state (ie: no redesign of the database)... As you know, this is a very long tedious process when performed correctly... Our client is looking for a "wizard" type conversion tool or process instead of the redesign of the web UI and business objects... Several people on my team (including my architect and I) continue to tell our client this is not possible, that a full rewrite of the application is required... I am creating an authentication server for some projects I'm working on. This authentication server works by receiving and transmitting data to users trying to authenticate. The user can send data to the server succesfully but when sending back it requires port forwarding. I read a way that I would not require port forwarding by using reverse connection but I have no idea how to get it working. I found a tutorial and tried to implement but when it tries to connect to read the stream it says the connection is refused.

View 2 RepliesI'm creating a VB program to run a psychology experiment and I'm pretty close to done but am running into a few problems. The experiment consists of 8 phases that display on a single form but with different stimuli (pictures and text) being displayed on the form. So for example, at the top of the form would appear "dog" and below that in the center of the screen would appear the word "cat" and then the subject would select one of two option buttons, one being on the bottom left of the screen and one being on the bottom right of the screen.
One option button is labeled "Similar" and the other is labeled "Opposite". I also have corrective feedback displayed after each choice is made. Here are the things I have not figured out

I would like to be able to create a vertical Menu (using a repeater and an <UL><LI> that displays the Root Categories and ideally, a collapse panel that would expand with the subcategories. Last year (2010) I came across a FANTASTIC command that allowed me to take a string of variables with a common delimiter and break it all back out into separate variables (possibly an array) with one statement.

As long as the delimiter was a unique specifiable character, this one-statement command could break it out into elements. my memory and point me in the right direction.
I have code, shown below, that works all except for 1 thing: The variables being passed byRef get passed, but once modified in the else section of the "if me.invokerequired" code of RecordData, the variables are never updated in the calling function. To reiterate, the calling function does not receive the updated data that is in the variables custid and amt.When debugging, I see the data change in the else section of "if me.invokerequired", but once it returns from the callback the data is missing.[code]

But I found that after this form is closed, all above variables, var1, list1, list2 still exist in memory. I thought they should be collected by gc since the form is already disposed as I confirmed.
Add: I have monitored half an hour after the form is closed. But these variables are not collected by gc. I have an automatic update procedure on the form which uses above variables.Since the above variables still hold values, the automatic update procedure is always called which causes exception. (One quick fix is to check if form.isDisposed in update procedure. But I do not think this is elegeant. Besides, these variables occupy memory.)
Does the memory used in declaring variables are reclaimed by the OS when these variables go out of scope?Does the memory used be released by setting thier value to nothing? if not, then how can I force the garbage collector to run or excecute at a certain/desired time..How about in Windows Forms..How can we make sure that the memory used in initializing and showing forms be released if those forms were closed?
