Basic Authentication Without Password?
Feb 26, 2010
I am currently developing an application in VB.net that opens up a web document via Web Browser Control, parses the HTML, and sends back the data I need. This is not a problem. However, one of the sites requires basic authorization to access. I know the following code will workThe dialog box will come up with in the User Name box, but the window focus will be on the password box.

I have managed to successfully connect remotely to the MySQL database for my Joomla! 1.5 website using MySqlConnector in Visual Basic .NET 2010. Now I am trying to authenticate a user's password from values submitted in a simple form to those retrieved from a MySQL query.
I found a useful thread on forums.joomla.org titled "Joomla password MD5 & VB.NET MD5", but the code snippets there produce the incorrect hash. Here is another useful Joomla Forums thread as to how passwords are encrypted (using MD5 hash and "salt") in the Joomla DB.

I am writing a program that accepts a user name and password (the password must show up as *s). The user gets three tries to enter the correct information before the program is closed. So far I have the password showing up as the password in clear text the first time and in *s the next two times. The authentication also fails even when I use the correct user name and password which are password and user for now.
Public Class frmPassword
Private Sub btnOK_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnOK.Click
Static intCounter As Integer = 0
intCounter = intCounter + 1

I have 2 questions here.
1. I would like to know how the attributes of an object in LDAP can be fetched using vb.net
eg here i want to get the properties of user with id saechira.[URL]..
2. I have to perform the authentication of username and password using our LDAP server. I have tried to use the below code. When I try to execute this code it say "Logon Failure: Unknown user name or bad password". Is it because of any invalid parameters, can anyone Please let me know why the authentication fails.. The username password and the domain are all correct. why does this error occur.

I need to authenticate a user against LDAP/AD (windows 2008 r2) so I can leverage the domains password rules etc... I found code that will allow me to validate a users ID and Password entered into a form (using System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry) but my problem is if the user enters an invalid password more that AD is configured to allow, the account gets locked out. Is there anyway around this?

I can access the current Windows user, but I want to give an admin the ability to enter an alternate username and password for a different Windows Active Directory Account without having to logoff and log back in. Once the account is authenticated, I need to use it in a connection string to sql server. I know I could do this for a SQL Server login, but this is Windows Authentication only. It was installed with ClickOnce. Is there an .exe file on the user's machine?

I'm trying to make an authentication before my visual basic 2008 project, a login window. You have to login using your vBulletin username & password. The username and password from my community, which is a vBulletin forum. So, I'd like a form that ask you to login using your username and password from my vBulletin forum, so you'd have to register before...

I am sending an XML file via HTTP POST using Visual Basics 2005. The site this is being sent to requires a header containing the lenth of the file (I've got that part) and Authorization. The Aurthorization is to consist of Basic Authentication in the form of "Basic xxxx", where the xxxx = "username:password", base64 encoded. The username and password are provided by the site the information is going to, so they do not match the user's login to the operating system or application.
What is the best way to attach the authorization to the file being sent? Does it need to be encoded and then placed in the header, or is there something that will do it all in one step. I can't seem to find a way to do this as all the information I have found either uses the default username and password, or the authorization is not in the form that I am needing.

My responsibility is to build a vb.net function that when a scanner scans an object, it would take the scanned string and call a stored procedure to get a row of data that match that scanned string and pass the data row to an application that would print out a label. below is my vb.net and sql server stored procedure script 1. Do I have to come up with a public class in order to store my row of data to pass it on to a different vb.net application that would take that data row and print out a label? 2. In my stored procedure, how would I return the founded data row to the vb.net function?

I'm trying to create a password change form for my company's vendors. There are a couple of scenarios I could encounter doing this:
1 - User enters invalid current password
2 - New passwords do not match
3 - User's account is locked
4 - User cannot authenticate because password is expired
It's case 4 that I'm struggling with, because their is no way for me to take the password the user entered and verify it against active directory without getting an error.

How do you get a textbox being using for password entry to display the black circle that you often see in web forms, on the iphone etc etc?
I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!
Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?

I have a vb.net web application running on a local server with IIS6 installed. I was using Integrated Windows authentication for allowing uses to access the data in the application which is a combination of flat files on a local directory and db information. That worked great until another dataset was brought online and incorperated into the existing application. The problem is the flatfiles for the second dataset are stored on another server. So, although user could see the file files in the application window, if they attempted to open one it would say access denied on the directory.
I explained this to our network administrator who explained the users didn't have access to that server (even though both servers had the same permissions) and that the application wouldn't work. The only way in which I got it to work was I had to
Enable Anonymous access and use a windows user account for that access, which works. However, the application requires the users NT account for various reasons. How can I get this to work with Integrated Windows Authentication?
