I have a math program that I am working on. One of the exercises has a random word and 6 radiobuttons. The user has to select the radiobutton that displays the exact number of letters in the random word. What I am having trouble with is creating a Public Function to check if the answer selected is the correct one. The radio buttons are within a groupbox. The Public Function returns a boolean True or False.

A CType(obj, Boolean) would evaluate to False(just as CBool(obj)), i think because the compiler uses a helper function, but that is not my theme. Why does casting Nothing to Boolean evaluates to False, whereas casting an object that is Nothing to Boolean throws an Nullreference-Exception? Does that make sense?
I have a form which creates a new school talk appointment. In my database, there is a column called 'active' which is boolean (true or false). Then everytime I creates a new school talk appointment and added it to database, the active is automatically set to 'false'. how to make it set to 'true' instead?

so i have to use an integer when i dim it like:dim b as MyBool = 1 then when you look at it in the watch window b = {Yes} so i could settle for that, but with a boolean you can do this:dim b as Boolean without setting it to anything it defaults to False mine however, is Nothing. 2 things: 1. How can i get mine to default to No 2. How can i make it work like this: dim b as MyBool = Yes instead of having to use the integer this is not a requirement for anything I just wanted to know how to do it
This is probably a really basic (no pun intended) question, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.Why does the result of func1 return False and func2 returns True? On every other test I have done, integer 1 is converted to boolean true and 0 to false. Works ok if I just set rtnValue to 1 or 0.
A week or so ago, you folks really taught me how to use the KeyData event. I adopted some of the coding to make my new code so much better. A few days ago, I thought I figured out how to run my little game. You see, you have two buttons. Comment and Uncomment. You Press Control + K and then after that, you press Control + (C or U) to activate the buttons. And I thought it worked! But my buddy figured out how to break it! The thing is, I need to figure out a way to make IsCtrlK (Look below) False if any key that isn't Control + C or U is pressed right after it. What would you suggest I look into using?

I am trying to up a private sub routing based on the Text Changed Event for a listbox, inside of the event, I want to set a boolean variable to true. I have it set up, but for some reason it is not getting called.
Basically what I am doing is the user is being prompted to enter data in an input box. I am taking the data that is entered on the input box and populating it in a list box. I want to know if the text in the listbox has been changed, hence changing the blnIsChanged = True
Can I use text changed with a listbox???

View 1 RepliesI am working with some VB.Net code that seems to be casting a boolean value to an integer using CInt(myBoolean). The odd thing that is happening is that it returns -1 if the value is true. For example:
CInt(True) // returns -1
CInt(False) // returns 0
Is this common in other languages? I thought that a boolean would be 1 if true and 0 if false. Also, is there a way to make VB assign 1 to true instead of assigning -1?
I'm deserializing a custom object from a file to an object in my app using the XmlSerializer. My issue is that I want a field in the object to default to "True" rather than "False" for a new property that doesn't exist in the file that I am deserializing from.
By default, .Net is assigning this value to be false because it doesn't exist in the file and I want it to default to True if it doesn't exist. I used the System.ComponentModel.DefaultValue(True) attribute on the field in the definition of the object, but that didn't work. Does anyone know how to do this?

Simple question, I have an application and dependant on whether you are in the administration system or on the public website I want to show different results. Example: in the database for a news story in the administration I may set the column value 'showonsite' to false. So I would like this to show in the administration panel only and not on the live site.
My question is, because I require the same information just with the only one column change, live site to only show true values and administration to show both. What is the most effective way of achieving this without copy paste of code?
In C# and Vb.net,is any way without iterating by loop a bitarray to check contins any true or false value (Dotnet 2.0) ?

I am trying to get true false statements to work. Each statement has its own msgbox and if true adds 1 to x. At the end i use a case function which will give the final number of x and give it a value in a textbox. What is happening instead is, if I click "no" on every Yes/No question, I get a 4. If I click "yes" on every Yes/No, I still get a 4. For car 3, 4, and 6 I want a "no" to be true. For 1,2,5,7 I want yes to be true.

i am having problem with the intellisense. i have created a boolean variable and when i try to assign value why does is shows all the members instead of false and true. Again when i try to set the height the intellisense pops up again.
View 7 RepliesI am new to programming.I am making a coin tossing program for class.It is telling me I need to create a separate method that doesn't take any arguments and only returns false for tails and true heads.Not sure if a function or a sub returns only that type of data. Also once the code is returned I can then add that to a CONST to keep a running total.If the method only returns true or false do I need to put the code in buttonclick sub to post the image of the coin in the picturebox using a if then statement? Would I also need to add the code for the print out of the statistics after the if then statement? Not asking for code just a step in the right direction.

View 1 RepliesI call a function (SaveChanges) to access my business / data layer and save any changes to fields that are marked as an Add or Update and are marked to be processed. This function used to work fine up until 60+ minutes ago. What is happening is that suddenly the function is returning false. After debugging through the code, when it hits Return the local boolean is set as True but when it gets back to the calling method (and uses the return value) it is now False. As I said I went through line by line and debugged it, then I added a watch to it. The funny part is that there is one spot that sets the Boolean to false, and when I put a breakpoint on that spot it is never reached.
