Deserialize Missing Boolean Field To TRUE?

I'm deserializing a custom object from a file to an object in my app using the XmlSerializer. My issue is that I want a field in the object to default to "True" rather than "False" for a new property that doesn't exist in the file that I am deserializing from.
By default, .Net is assigning this value to be false because it doesn't exist in the file and I want it to default to True if it doesn't exist. I used the System.ComponentModel.DefaultValue(True) attribute on the field in the definition of the object, but that didn't work. Does anyone know how to do this?

I want to change the DoNotMail boolean value represented by a Gridview checkbox and automatically update in the database if the checkbox is checked from 0 (False, Will Mail) to 1 (True, Won't Mail) here is the code I used. [code]...
is it possible to do a two way sync on the entire gridview when the user hits a button so you don't have to do an update every time a row is changed? because the user might check the box and then check another box then uncheck a box and it would be a lot of updates...

I have a form which creates a new school talk appointment. In my database, there is a column called 'active' which is boolean (true or false). I am trying to up a private sub routing based on the Text Changed Event for a listbox, inside of the event, I want to set a boolean variable to true. I have it set up, but for some reason it is not getting called.
Basically what I am doing is the user is being prompted to enter data in an input box. I am taking the data that is entered on the input box and populating it in a list box. I want to know if the text in the listbox has been changed, hence changing the blnIsChanged = True
Can I use text changed with a listbox???

I am working with some VB.Net code that seems to be casting a boolean value to an integer using CInt(myBoolean). The odd thing that is happening is that it returns -1 if the value is true. For example:
CInt(True) // returns -1
CInt(False) // returns 0
Is this common in other languages? I thought that a boolean would be 1 if true and 0 if false. Also, is there a way to make VB assign 1 to true instead of assigning -1?

I have a math program that I am working on. One of the exercises has a random word and 6 radiobuttons. The user has to select the radiobutton that displays the exact number of letters in the random word. What I am having trouble with is creating a Public Function to check if the answer selected is the correct one. The radio buttons are within a groupbox. The Public Function returns a boolean True or False.

As you can see I was playing with WithEvents but that didn't seem to help. In the above code all I was trying to get was some kind of reaction to the clicking of a checkbox - but nothing happens (no errors, either).

I have a class library that is referenced by several other class libraries along with the main program. About two weeks back, I made a change to one of the classes in that base library, which is used as an argument for some events. Since that time, I have been testing code. Today, after a couple more tests, I started getting this exception. It is indicating a field is missing, which was renamed in that change about two weeks ago. The exact code that is raising the exception is code that I have run a couple dozen times in the intervening time, and it has always worked.I have tried everything I can think of, including deleting the bin and obj folders of every module that could be in any way related to this issue, such that the whole thing was rebuilt. I have removed the references and re-added them. Nothing worked. Code that has run fine for weeks has decided that it wants a version of an object that has not existed for weeks.
This problem arose immediately after a different problem, so the two might well be related. The other problem was that, while stepping through code, the IDE decided that one of the code pages was different from when it was last loaded. I get that a fair amount, and solving it is fairly routine. It generally means that I am stepping through code in a dll, and inadvertently tried to fix a bug in that code, rather than in the dll itself. Now it no longer matters. I can't get to that code page, nor can I get to anything else in that dll. It is acting like it has sponaneously decided to revert two weeks back in time, and use that source code for debugging, despite any attempt I make to bring it up to modern times.

This is my problem.I have a field set up in MS Access to Boolean YES/NO, this field is populated when the user check a checkbox on a windows form. If the user check a checkbox, the value is written as checked in the data field (MS Access).The problem is when I search for the user information, I need the information from the Data base to populate(return) to the windows form. From what I read it is a good convention to name a method that returns a boolean value with the prefix of "is" or "has". So in keeping with this convention I am trying to name a method in my program with this prefix but I am running Specifically I have a class called Day. It is a simple class with a few data members and one method that returns a boolean value of true or false. The name of the boolean variable is isSpecialDay. This class has a method called isSpecialDay which takes the date of the day, applies some criteria to the date and then sets the variable isSpecialDay to true or false. My problem is that the boolean variable is named isSpecialDay and so it the method. What should I do?

Ok, so I'm playing with some FTP profile files that are written in XML. I'm trying to get the program to be able to read the current users settings and fill in or remove servers they do or don't have access to. So the XML looks like
