IDE :: Filling A Listbox From Access If A Certain Field Is True
May 7, 2012
I am trying to populate a listbox from access (and later SQL 2008) that will display all item names that are marked yes in another column. It is a validation for verifying whether or not it needs to be displayed. I am using the databinding method in the properties window and I am not sure how to do this without coding.

I'm deserializing a custom object from a file to an object in my app using the XmlSerializer. My issue is that I want a field in the object to default to "True" rather than "False" for a new property that doesn't exist in the file that I am deserializing from.
By default, .Net is assigning this value to be false because it doesn't exist in the file and I want it to default to True if it doesn't exist. I used the System.ComponentModel.DefaultValue(True) attribute on the field in the definition of the object, but that didn't work. Does anyone know how to do this?
Would it be possible to make my program visit a website and basicly filling out a text field and using the submit button in a form? For example; I have a text field named "Field" in my webpage, and I want my Visual Basic 2008 application to visit that page, and automaticly fill out that field named "Field" with a string I gave my application, and next to click on the submit button. The purpose for this is because I want that the users of my application can post feedback on my webpage. I was looking for something like a MySql client but it's best if I would encrypt/hide the protected information such as table names or MySql passwords. And I believe that these users need to have specific MySql drivers installed to use it. So this idea sounds better. So, is there a way to navigate trough a website like this?
Ok, so I`ve been studying a bit of VB lately.. bought a few books and read lot`s of articles and seen hours of instructional videos, and I slightly start to get the hang of a few things.. :) I`ve recently started a fun little project, but I seem to lack a bit of knowledge to reach my goal. I`ll first try to describe my project:
I have this assignment which has to read the names from a sequential file and store them in the names array. Then i have to sort the array in descending order and listbox. Only I'm having a problem when i try to implement the sort method. Theres no syntax error but the sorts not happening.
I created a user control with a listbox in it and a public property ListItem() Public Property ListItem() As String Get Return _ListItem End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _ListItem = value End Set End Property
On FormLoad I wish to fill the Usercontrol Listbox with the values that the user supplies. Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim u As New UserControl1() u.ListItem = "hello" u.ListBox1.Items.Add(u.ListItem) End Sub The Listbox does get filled.
For example: test is a variable test = 1 How do I make that if test = 1 that a listbox fills with the items: red, blue, green, yellow? If test = 1 Then listbox1....
Just trying to get my head round WPF. I have a usercontrol which I'm using as the template for items in a listbox, however no matter what I try the usercontrol's width is always shrinking to the minimum size but I want it to fill the available width. I've found a similar query on here but it was relating just to a usercontrol not within a listbox and the solution proposed doesn't apply here.
I converted some code from vb6 to vb2005 that opens a recordset and populates a listbox with about 8,000 names. It uses classic ado. The vb6 code does it in about 0.75 of a second, the first vb2005 code does it in about 5.5 seconds while the second vb2005 code does it in about 4.5 seconds. Is there any way to improve the vb2005 performance a fair bit more?
I'm trying to get a combo box to fill itself from a MS access database field but I can't get it to work. I can get it to work at school but not at home. Also can't get a program that worked at school to work here so I'm guessing that somewhere there is something blocking the connection to the database. I've gone into the MS access trust center and looked at the settings there but I can't see anything that would be stopping it. I just need to find that setting (if it is indeed a setting) wherever it is and fix it so that I can access my database. I am not using visual basic from access I am accessing access through visual basic.
I can't get it to work with an ADO connection, either. Also when preview data via clicking smart arrow on the combo box then going to preview data I can see the data just fine. Also I just noticed I get two lines in my output after the file is run that say "A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll" I don't get these lines if I comment out all the code for the combo box.
This is my problem.I have a field set up in MS Access to Boolean YES/NO, this field is populated when the user check a checkbox on a windows form. If the user check a checkbox, the value is written as checked in the data field (MS Access). The problem is when I search for the user information, I need the information from the Data base to populate(return) to the windows form. Example: If I enter a users phone number and the user data is present, the form gets populated with the information the user previously entered which was store in the database.Example: If the user selected checkbox1 and submits the form. When I search for the user info, the check box should check(populate) because the user had checked it on submit. Here is what I have done:
[code]...
I am getting the check value correctly in the database using a Boolean. Here is one of the errors I am getting. Unable to cast object of type
'System.Boolean' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox.I am having trouble putting the codes in a code tag or block
The SQL string won't return data from Access. I've tested this exact SQL String in Access and it works fine.First of all, Am I getting a SQL query from Access in the proper manner?Second... should I be using a stored procedure for this? Or is making a query from tables like this a good practice? Third, if I'm doing it right, why won't Access query return and fill my dataset? These are the results I'm getting.
I have an access query which plays flawlesly in Access.I want to use it as a source for a datagridview i use in one of my forms but....given the fact that is a rather big query with some "like" and conditions like ">3" and so on AND the fact it uses tables from 3 different mdb (not to mention is bases on other queries...i 'ill try my best to fix this) what is the best approach .
1st case .Can i retrieve the data simply with NO oledbparameteres and NO " select * xxx where yyy like 'd' ".I think there is a issue with the Oledb connection that "omits" them.To explain better the query right now with the filters in access returns 3 rows, without the filters 30 rows, can i get just the 3 rows to do my job... 2nd case . How should i fill a datagridview using tables from 3 different mdbs.If you can show me an example it would be life saving.
I have Listbox, that I want to assign primary key, and a text (eg. students table). So i wrote this code.
mySQLCmd.CommandText = "SELECT studentname, studentid FROM studentstable WHERE Year(DOB) = " + selectedYear Dim dt As New DataTable myReader = myCmd.ExecuteReader()
[code]....
When I select something on the listbox, both of selecteditem and selectedvalue properties just return the student name, not the student id. So I get this error.
Error on Line2. Conversion from string "RichardCole" to type 'Integer' is not valid.I don't know why? So i do i get the studentid value back ? I need to know the ID coz name can't use as PK so.
I use the code below to fill the list box and it works great. But i need it to only look in the \Software and \Software\FolderName Foldername could be any folder in the Software folder i need it to get all the .exe from software folder and only one more folder deep no more.
i connect database with vb.net and also i receive a single value from my receiver through serial port. now i want to match this single data with one field of database. i have attached my code.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub OPEN_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
i am trying to make a vb.net project for a travel agency ..... i have make all of the content of it but i got stuck in listbox .... i have added onnfiled of sql table into the listbox and now i want that when i select the list box content then all the other fields of a the row will automatically come in the rest of the textbox so i can add and delete it manually....... here is my code..... of one form(i have made 13 forms like that)
I can save my data to access database and in the access database field I set it to date/time.But problem is when I get the value out from the database.. the format is always month/day/year hour:minutes:seconds example today: 5/2/2011 12:00:00..How to get the value into listview becoming May/2/2011 without the hour..Here's my code to get it from database ListView1.Items(i).SubItems.Add(dt.Rows(i)(14).ToString).The second problem is.When I would like to edit, how can the datetimepicker get the listview value ? [code] info: using access 2003 (.mdb) the Date of Birth field has been set into Date/Time.
This is my code which i used to try this but it inserts only the last value in the listbox but i need all the selected values seperated by comma [code]...
I'm trying to make the textbox field active when listbox selecteditems is change so I know I have to but something in the selecteditemchanged action of the listbox, but what?I tried:
Private Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged TextBox1.Enabled = True End Sub
I download a file into access. One field contains one to many numbers always separated by a colon and a space: I have no control over the download. TheNumbers have a 1 to many relationship to a customer. Each number must then be verified against two separate reference files, and if the numbers match the description related to the number will be displayed.I'm just learning visual basic. I've made the changes manually (yuk-this took forever); I've tried various string/conversion commands; I've taken the data and placed it into excel and tried to manipulate it, without success. In this case is always numeric. In another field, similar problem, it's a combination of text and numbers.
i have a table name product , when i m inserting data into product i need to first check if Product Name already exist in database if yes i want to exit. basically i want to know how to get data from the database and how to access columns in asp.net .
