I converted some code from vb6 to vb2005 that opens a recordset and populates a listbox
with about 8,000 names. It uses classic ado. The vb6 code does it in about 0.75 of a second, the first vb2005 code does it in about 5.5 seconds while the second vb2005 code does it in about 4.5 seconds. Is there any way to improve the vb2005 performance a fair bit more?

VB2010: All, I am using a picturebox to show the constellation of GPS satellites, that starts out OK. I have to redraw every now and then, because if a dialog box gets drawn on top of it, the data doesn't refresh after the dialog box is closed. Same with moving the Frame around the screen, I have to redraw the picturebox. (not sure why, but I can live with that) When I first start the program and received data from the receivers and plot the Constellation the refresh/redraw is very quick, (just a flicker) then after about 30 mins or so the refresh seems to redraw the picturebox slower and slower. I can see the individual satellites (fillellipse) redraw.
Also, I have moved the picturebox into a TAB-frame. Even when I switch from on Tab to another, the picturebox will not refresh automatically. I have to do a clear and then replot the information.
js want to add some item n my dgCart(DataGrid) from my txtISBNInfo & txtTitleInfo (Textbox). Upon addin it, the itemx must be limited into 3, and the dgCart(DataGrid) should not contain any doubling or duplication ov items. What should I do?

on form's load I am filling the DatagridView with an a Sql query. I also use some buttons to highlight every row(record) of the DataGridView. I have a button where when I click on it I want to display in a msgbox the value of the first column(field) of the highlighted row (i.e. the name of the first filed-column is Code).

I've tested this exact SQL String in Access and it works fine.First of all, Am I getting a SQL query from Access in the proper manner?Second... should I be using a stored procedure for this? I have an access query which plays flawlesly in Access.I want to use it as a source for a datagridview i use in one of my forms but....given the fact that is a rather big query with some "like" and conditions like ">3" and so on AND the fact it uses tables from 3 different mdb (not to mention is bases on other queries...i 'ill try my best to fix this) what is the best approach .
1st case .Can i retrieve the data simply with NO oledbparameteres and NO " select * xxx where yyy like 'd' ".I think there is a issue with the Oledb connection that "omits" them.To explain better the query right now with the filters in access returns 3 rows, without the filters 30 rows,can i get just the 3 rows to do my job... 2nd case . How should i fill a datagridview using tables from 3 different mdbs.If you can show me an example it would be life saving.
I am trying to fill a combobox using the results form a query to combine two fields (first and Last name). I cannot seam to get to the query through the table adapter. I can set the binding source and select one of the fields to fill the control but I cannot get to the query's.

I can select the row i want, but for some reason my mind then hits a blank, maybe its because its monday.I want to check a few bit fields in the row and if 1 - do something, if 0 do something else. Trying to do a mysql parametrized query and i'm having a little issue.

It errors on the executenonquery. Says the column rootforestname can not be null. i don't under stand why it does not fill in the value in the command text.

Just trying to get my head round WPF. I have a usercontrol which I'm using as the template for items in a listbox, however no matter what I try the usercontrol's width is always shrinking to the minimum size but I want it to fill the available width. I've found a similar query on here but it was relating just to a usercontrol not within a listbox and the solution proposed doesn't apply here.

I tried with /Delayloading, rebase etc. It did not give much improvement. In fact after rebase it took more time. note that my app has more than 150 dlls

For the first time, I came across the error in VBA "Out Of String Space" when dealing with a 200MB CSV file.To overcome this I copied and pasted all the code over to VB.NET, compiled changed a few errors and ran the new code. I'm upgrading to VB2008 from VB6 and have noticed that when drawing a small diagram on the screen it is much slower. In VB6 is is drawn 'instantly' in VB2008, 34 lines, 5 arcs and 15 text items are taking 112000,000 ticks to draw- I can see it being drawn line by line. The codes contains the code to draw the diagram and some minor calculations to determine what to draw. If I just draw 4 lines directly it takes 80,000 ticks which looks 'instant'. It looks as if the calculations are slowing it down. Is there some reason for this, is there a box I have not ticked that makes it slow?

I come from Access and I am developing now my first windows form app in visual basic 2010 based on a Access database *.mdb. The thing is i have an access db with 5 tables. I have created the forms, connected to the database, all is working great. Parent- child relations are working, datagrids and comboboxes populate the right way, buttons are working.
But now I want to populate listbox, and combox from tables with queries. Like in access I would like, for example to populate two different listboxes bound to the same table with different queries, so that the listboxes give different results, based on different variables or textboxes.
But I don't know how to attack the problem: the query works against the tableadapter, so the info it gives back is always the same. I have tried to duplicate the tableadapter of the table i want to query, writing different sql queries in both, but it does not seem to work. I don't know in what direction I should ivestigate: LINQ, sql queriess, coded queries, filtering the listbox...
