i need to load 500k string items of varying length to a listbox without freezing the ui , what us the best method.
I read about background worker, but don't know how to apply it without freezing the ui
I've got a problem, I'm making a program that gives you the choice to add items to a listbox, these items are text. When the form loads, i need it to load text from a file into a listbox. For every line I need it to add that text to the listbox. My problem is when it loads, there's an extra line, but that's only after I close the form and open it again. The reason it happens when the form unloads is because the listbox items are saved on form unload. Now, I believe the problem is my code to save the items:

I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.

note ive tried more than string.compare does it have something with return false being at the bottom of the function. becuase ive tried adding an exit function once it returns true, but still I get returned with false to make it even more frustraiting the clipboard results are test/test
I need to take the items in a listBox and post it in a textBox with a delimiter. I worked some code but it does not work correctly. I think my array is wrong but i am lost. what happening is when i click button it highlights an item in listBox and then adds it one item to the textBox x number of times of items in listBox. so if i have 4 items in listBox it adds same item 4 times. anyway here is what i have.

I'm creating an open-source web browser in VB.NET Express 2008 and I've created a User Setting named History to save a collection of strings for the browsing history. However, when I try to load the history form at runtime, only the first item (of the three I added) shows up in the listbox. Now I have it so when you click the add button it will put the URL in the string FavList, and place the URL in Listbox1 however I have no idea how to save it, and load it.
So the next time the user opens it, it will have the URL in the string and URL box, so when they click the URL in listbox1 it will redirect the WebBrowser. I think it works like that already I just need to know how to save it, and load it.

I have a listbox where the user can add items to it with the following schema "count, id".I want to take each item from the listbox,use the split function so I can "take" only the "count," part and then add the "count," part of each item into a string.I mean I want something like this:

I have a listbox that gets populated with files paths based on search terms provided by the user. I want the user to be able to select multiple items on the listbox, and then be able to export the files listed to another folder. See the attached image for what I'm talking about.
The problem I'm having is that I don't know how to take the items selected and turn them into a string array. Everything else I can figure out, but this one has me stumped.
How would one code a button so upon cliking it items in listbox would sort either ascending or descending (depends on the button clicked). with about 8,000 names. It uses classic ado. The vb6 code does it in about 0.75 of a second, the first vb2005 code does it in about 5.5 seconds while the second vb2005 code does it in about 4.5 seconds. Is there any way to improve the vb2005 performance a fair bit more?

Neither of these worked, though the 2nd one would clean up my code a bit. Unfortunately I'm getting an "Expression expected" error on that "newStr = If..." line. I'm making an application that does some stuff involving the given subject, so this is very crucial to the completion and efficiency of my application.What I'm in need of today is simple (well, "seems" simple). I have one listbox that I want to populate with directories file's names. I don't mean the files inside the directories, but the names of the folders inside the directory.So, I have "c:empdog", I'd click on my button or whatever and search for the directory and I choose "temp", said listbox would show "dog".
UPDATE: Oh, BTW. It doesn't HAVE to be a listbox, it can be anything (IE: Textbox, Labels, Etc.).

Why is this code having the opposite effect? If It's checked in the checkedlistbox it's not check in my view, if it's not check in my checkedlistbox it is checked in the grid.
EDIT: More specifically. The CheckState.Checked is always the opposite. .Checked means it's not checked.
